    When parents and professionals try teaching a child with autism to learn words, many find the autism child repeating words. So, they aren’t really understanding what they are saying, rather just repeating the thing they can remember. In today’s video we’re going to review the best way to get child with autism speaking, how you can start teaching a child with autism to learn words, and how you can ensure you’re preventing echolalia in children with autism. Teaching a child with autism to talk can be tricky at first, especially if you say too much, the key is, when you’re talking to kids with autism, use few words. Much of how autism and language development improve, is based on how well you’re able to focus on one word, or a few words, and how you’re limiting language.

    Dr. Mary Barbera "fell" into the world of autism in 1999 when her firstborn son, Lucas, was diagnosed with autism one day before his third birthday. In the last 2 decades, Mary went from almost nothing about autism to becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, writing a bestseller, The Verbal Behavior Approach (now translated into more than 10 languages) and obtaining a PhD. with an in-depth knowledge of some of the best ABA autism strategies. In 2015, Mary began her first online course on autism that has already been purchased from parents and professionals in more than 45 countries and now sells 3 courses online. With more than 2 decades in the world of autism, both as a parent and as a professional, Mary is in a unique position to help you, especially if you live or work with a child with autism who also has delays or language disorders. Its mission is to change things for 2 million children with autism (or signs of autism) by 2020 through online training and advocacy.

    That was an excellent example with the lady translating to Chinese, it made so much sense to me now, why my son who is 20 yrs old still struggles with echolalia. He has had so many different therapists, Speech, ABA, teachers, T.As, so it’s not possible for us as parents to do it alone if the other professionals aren’t teaching the same way.

    My daughter nicole even if there's no eye to eye contact i can ask her things like this1. Nicole go get some water and drink
    2.nicole, turn off the light and close the door
    3.Nicole, go wash ur hands(b4 we eat)
    4.Nicole, time to eat(and she'll go to her specific chair, specific plate and most specially spoon)
    She can'T utter words but i know in eating she needs help first.then shell do the rest
    ..
    Sadly was not able to send her in ABA like yours due of lacking financiall aspects.
    But so glad that u provided us helpful information..thank u Ms.Marry

    We have a 33-month-old great-grandson we babysit and we think he is autistic because he has never spoken a word ever. He does not respond to his name but we are sure he can hear because he will stop doing something he is not allowed to do if we say stop. Your videos are very helpful and our granddaughter is getting ready to have him tested at Children's Hospital and start speech therapy soon. Thank you for posting these videos, they are very helpful.

      500 for 2 months or 60 days. I would think there is a better pricing point. You know if 250 gets you 4 times the customers then that's double the revenue.
      That's 4 times more people helped. Just a thought.

      Your reply to this person didn't address his/her point at all. You can see all the testimonials in the world about how great your program is but if someone is living paycheck to paycheck, that doesn't do them any good. Perhaps every once in while you could gift your program to the needy. How much do you really want to help or is it more about what you get out of it? - your husband and you both are doctors. I'm sure you aren't hurting.

    • @marybarbera
      @marybarbera  3 года назад

      Echolalia can be immediate like parroting but there is also delayed echolalia which is repeating things long after they heard it. You can google mary barbera echolalia for more information.

The only words he has said is momma and dada when he was around 3. then all speaking stopped. Unfortunately my wife divorced me when our son was 6 and I didn't get to work with him and perhaps help him. I myself have autism as well.

    Thanks Mary, I am from Cameroon, in central Africa and I've got two boys , Jason was diagnosed with autism last year , he is 4years old now and my 15 months baby is showing symptoms of autism though he hasn't been diagnosed yet. Both don't speak any word yet and they don't even point at what they want or even try to communicate at all, my 4 years old son, Jason will hold my hands and lead me to the kitchen if he is hungry or bring a bottle of water if he is thirsty, but baby Ethan just cries and I have to guess what he wants most of the time. Its been so hard trying to get Jason to say a word even using the method you just explained now, what note can I do to help them speak. Here in Cameroon we have a few speech therapist but not in the same region where my family reside , so we have to plan an entire day off for a therapy session and its expensive too. Please help me know if there is more I can do to help my children communicate
