We had the following interview from Telemundo translated on August 22 2016.
    www.google.com...
HOST: What did you feel, Alicia, during that moment?
ALICIA MACHADO: Look, I felt very happy, very excited. I've been here many years. I've been to the United States since I was like, I don't know, four or five years old. And also, not only because of these elections which I think are historical for this country; it's historical, too, for the Latino community. The Latino vote is the one that will decide this year many things in these elections. And also, the fact that my daughter is American. My daughter was born here. I have my foundation that is called "Mamis solas" (literally "Moms who are alone", meaning "Single Moms") which I've been working very hard on for five, six years. Also, as an American citizen I can do altruistic work and other types of work legally. And besides, well, our country, Venezuela, which is really in the hands of hatred, and well, my mother is with me, and also by becoming a citizen I have the opportunity to ask for my mom. That way I would have my mom with me. So there are many important reasons
HOST: You were, you say, for a long time a resident of the United States...
    AM: 20 years! How horrible!
HOST: And many people, maybe like you, that let a long time go by before becoming American citizens, is there some advice you might have for those people who like you were or are waiting for some reason to take that step for citizenship?
AM: Look, I think that by becoming a citizen it enables us to have an opinion, it enables us to complain, it enables us to vote not just for the President, for representatives, for delegates, for all the people that in some way manage this country. And it's a very simple process. I didn't imagine that it would be so easy. And besides, there are many benefits, too. And I think that at this time - I want to use this program to make a call to the Latino community of the United States: this country has given us a lot. The United States is a country that gives us a lot and has given a lot to all of us. The United States has always received, they receive us from so many countries with so many problems. Most of us, it's not my case, but most of us come fleeing the situations of our countries. So I think that at this time the United States - it's the moment for us Latinos to give back to the United States everything they have given us, by voting.
HOST: Quickly, many people are afraid of that exam that they give you. Was it hard, was it not hard?
AM: No, no! It's not hard. No, it's not hard, and look, you know what? If you don't have a good command of English, don't get stressed out about it because nowadays there are many resources, learning tools, and also I feel that at this time, at immigration level, everything is very smooth precisely because they want us to vote.
HOST: Alicia, now that you can vote, what's your message for Donald Trump, quickly?
AM: Well look, I'm doing work to support my Latino community. I'm not against anyone. I'm in favor of this country. I'm in favor of freedom, equality. This is a wonderful country with precious foundations at the constitutional level. And that's what I defend. I defend the country of my daughter. And respect for us Hispanics.
HOST: But will you send a message to Donald Trump?
AM: And I will send him, yes, I sent him a message. And, well yes, now Miss Housekeeping - as he used to call me many times scornfully - now Miss Housekeeping can vote.
