I just bought a 1996 Mustang SVT Cobra . 🇺🇸 One owner convertible with 23,000 miles on it. It’s sat in a garage and was driven less than 1000 miles a year. The seats the carpet the gaskets around the doors and the door jams looks brand new . Paid 13-K for the car . It looks drives and smells like a brand new car. This is my first Ford Mustang. I have owned Camaro’s my entire life and still have a 2010 Camaro RS -SS Long live the internal combustion engine.

These can handle pretty good with just a few minor mods. The right springs and dampers along with upper and lower control arms and wider tires all around on lightweight wheels and sticky rubber and they can actually be pretty good handling cars they just aren't that great when stock. As for the brakes they aren't great by today's standards but compared to what the gt had at the time its head and shoulders above that. I used to own a 97 cobra myself. One of the most important mods especially if na still is steep gears and when I say steep I mean 430 or even 456. If you're supercharged 410. These cars love gear and it totally transforms the car and will literally take a half second or more off in the quarter mile compared to stock 3.27 gears. FBO with a ported short runner intake and a set of nice aftermarket cams and you can comfortably be sitting at 350+ to the rear wheels and with the aggressive gearing I spoke of before and some weight reduction they can actually be pretty respectable even by today's standards considering it's an all motor 4.6 liter from the mid 90s. Mine was black on black too. One thing I love about my current 07 gt500 is it has that mod 4 valve burble from the exhaust anyone who'd owned or been around these cars know what I'm talking about!!! Love the sound
My 96 cobra only has cold air intake,under drive pullies,aluminum drive shaft,and 3:73 gears,I’ve beaten on brand new 392’chargers and challengers,modded lightnings,big turbo mazdaspeed3’s, turbo s2000’s etc...and it’s not even fbo or tuned yet lol
No, you haven't. You're not beating a 392 Challenger or Charger with a 96 Cobra with your piddly bolt ons. I own a 97 Cobra right now, you're not fooling me or anyone else.
@@LimitedEditionMotorcars I hate to say it.A 96 to 98 cobra is definitely not have a strong motor. If you are going to buy a cobra buy a 93 cobra or a 04 cobra. The 4.6 in 96 98 cobras was weak. I bought a new 97cobra and missed one shift and blew the motor. Just being honest.

Enjoyed the video! I love my 1996 cobra, it is my daily car. Love the engine and the car, it has been very reliable to me. After just a few mod's the car can become very quick. It is always an nice experience.
@@justinkrizenesky I daily it to work everyday and errands. If you dont have kids then it works fine as a daily, only reason why I say that is its not what you'd call a safe car at all. The biggest two downsides is city fuel economy (I have a heavy foot) plus I put a 550 hp clutch in mine which is alittle tiring in traffic. The second and biggest issue as a daily is if you are in an area that rains. Mustangs dont like rain basically.. The cobras have limited slip rear ends which is nice but doesnt help vs the regular mustangs in rain. I have to drive very slow and careful around turns through intersections if its wet out. If you need any tips once you decide whether or not to buy one, id be happy to help.

The 96 and 97 mustang cobras had a overheating issue. It was corrected in 1998 the last year for this body style. I love these cars. But there’s only so much horsepower. You can get out of one of these.
I mean it's not hard to make 1000hp with and early 4v. Forged stroker and a good amount of boost. Stock cams and a ported stock top end can get it done. Just like anything, comes down to how much you want to spend.
The 98's were also the bastard year where a few things changed like the imrc plates going to plastic which didnt help with carbon build up.They also had return style fuel lines with a fuel pressure regulator while the fuel pump and tank were returnless style.....I had a 98 laser red convertible and hated it.Constantly had to clean the imrc plates and it only had 120,000 on it when I sold it.
I had a 97 Mustang Cobra (Pacific Green with Saddle interior) an 02 S2000 (GPW White with full red interior) and an 03 Mustang Cobra (Silver with grey interior) Between the 97 Cobra and the S2000 I had a 98 Corvette when I was stationed in Hawaii in the Navy. Not sure which I miss the most! (best handling was the S2000 and best acceleration was the 03 Cobra.
My dads gotta blue 1990 foxbody v8. My brothers gotta 2003 Mustang with a 4.6l v8. And I gotta 4.6l v8 manual transmission mustang cobra. I got mine with candy red and nice shiny rims. I just got it about a year ago. My baby works just as better as a bought her. The SN95s r such an underrated car. There so fast and so light. I rember racing my brother with his car. Got some good races in. I've been keeping up with my brother. He mostly won the races but I kept up with him majority. I won like 3 prob 4 races tho. But now I can't race him any time soon because he's getting the Supercharger from his boss. His boss is a mechanic in Tennessee. He use to have a supercharged 03 mustang. But when he was going to do the body work. He seen that there was mold on it for being locked up. So he hurried and got the engine out. And now my brothers getting it as soon as they have that talk. But I'm really satisfied with my baby. As soon as I get the money. I'ma get wit my brother and we gone get her supercharged up. And by then I'll be good ash on that manual 😂
The reason the Terminator Engine has its name is because it terminated the engine issues these cars had. The name caught on, but we can't call these baby terminators because they're aren't. Cool cars regardless.
When ford went to that body style it was perfect timing. The fox body had grown pretty stale by 1993 imo. I remember being a kid and drooling over this car. The c4 corvette was getting old and I didn’t like the camaro body style that much. All the American car market had was the Viper and the new mustang imo.
I agree, I think the SN-95 was a great refresh to the fox body with cool retro cues. Unfortunately, this is not a popular generation with Mustang fans and these can be picked up cheap for now. I miss my 1996 Mystic Cobra, it was a cool car. The viper was a cool car of the 90s but was pretty much impossible to drive straight lol

The SN95 is a weird one for me- I have a 97 Cobra that’s been in my family since 01. It’s weird to me the night and day difference of enthusiasm people have for the New Edge vs SN95 when, to me, they don’t look that dissimilar. There are things I prefer on one or the other (I don’t think you can beat those New Edge taillights!) but I think overall they both look sweet. I always tell people if they want to get a Cobra for cheap then a 94-95 is the way to go. I think purchase price for those and the 96-98 is similar but I think modding/maintaining a 5.0 is much cheaper than a 4.6, especially the 96-98 which doesn’t have anywhere close to the aftermarket support that the 5.0 does. I can only assume the B-headed engine is less popular than the later 4.6 because of the split intake port design coupled with the problems of PCV contamination going into the secondary ports as well as gumming up the IMRC plates.
@@LimitedEditionMotorcars false. The mach 1 breathes better than the 96-98 or 99-01 cobras and has the same beads as 03-04 cobras. They are the c heads which are an upgrade from the earlier b heads. They were rated same power but machs put down 20 more hp or better to the wheels every day of the week and twice on Sunday and the mach has decent torque too like 300+ to the wheels in stock form.
Nothing baby terminator about it. It has the same weak bottom end the 2 valves had, no boost, no IRS, no 6 speed. 450 was the upper limit of what the rods could handle. The trans was the same weak t45 the GT had.
450 was also the limit of the t45 at normal driving before it exploded.You are right about it being somewhat weak when abused but what transmission isn't weak to abuse?

I had a 96 Cobra and thought it handled great ... compared to the 89 5.0 LX hatchback it replaced lol.
My family owns a 94 5.0 Mustang GT. roughly 180k miles and engine still runs strong. Would like to own a Cobra someday.
The pushrod 5.0 can do another 500k without breaking a sweat. They are literally bulletproof.

I never had any issues with over heating on my 97 Cobra, that included driving it rather hard over steep mountain passes.

Unfortunately the s2000 is no longer a budget car. They have skyrocketed in value. The SN-95 is still attainable.

A little suspension work and they handle great. 03/04 cobra wasn't a solid rear axle. Maybe you shouldn't put videos out on cars you dont know about.
