Great to hear! Best of luck on your CBAP certification.
Hello i finished my BSc in Accounting and would like to do a masters in business analytics , do you think that would be a great idea especially when I don't have much experience in that field?
Good luck in your CBAP certification too.
Awesome and very informative video! Do you have any advice for a recent graduate with a bachelors in math looking to become a business analyst? Any recommended certifications, further education, or additional things needed to get a foot in the door as a business analyst? Thank you for your work!
Hey! Thanks for the comments. I would say strong excel and presentation skills would definitely help as well as IIBA certification: www.iiba.org/certification/iiba-certifications/
I also have a video on how to become a business analyst if you would like to get some more information: ruclips.net/video/0IezRN26bpY/видео.html
I've taken Project Management as well as Change Management courses and found them very helpful :) You should look for an industry that you would like to get into and find jobs that will give you skill sets and knowledge that you oftentimes need in order to become a business analyst. I decided to work for a software company to gain technical and project management skill sets before getting my job as a BA. So there are different avenues you can take depending on what kind of business analyst you would like to become :)
Super explanation. I would like to ask, which tools you normally use being a Business analyst?. Best regards.
I work with SAP ERP most of the time because I'm business systems analyst! I also work with lots of data, Excel, PPT, Visio or LucidChart and SQL.
This was super helpful! I also was wondering how many hours do you typically have to work or if you work more than 40 per week? What is the flexibility like in this career?
I typically work 45 per week. It can get up to 50 or even more during busy season from October until March so I tend to work more overtime. However, during the summer, my hours are around 40 and I take vacation. So it fluctuates depending on how many projects we have on the go
Thank you so much for the video. So helpful. I am applying to specify my major in BUS ADMIN for my transfer to CSUSM. I was going to choose accounting but I want to major in Bus Analyst now. My problem is I dislike math a lot, it does not come to me naturally. Does this career involve a lot of math??
Thank you so much for this now i know I want to become a business analyst. Does anyone have any tips on were to start? Like a fresh start from 0 lol
Yes indeed - I have a video on 6 actionable tips on how to become a business analyst! As with anything, it starts with finding which industry and what type of BA you would like to become. Start by doing some research by finding BA job posting on LinkedIn and see which one interests you the most :)

DC Johnson Thank you so much!! Comments like this help me stay motivated :)
@@RichMillennialMindset You're welcome!
@@RichMillennialMindset I was wondering how would you recommend someone getting freelance experience as a BA.
DC Johnson Depending on your past experience and location, there are many different ways I can think of. You can use online websites or recruiters for short term or contractor positions.
I’ve also heard of Websites such as Flex Jobs, Upwork, Guru, and Freelancer so you should look into them as well.
Also, some bigger companies have developmental programs which are short in nature (6 months up to a year) and it’s an excellent way to get your foot in the door. So you can talk to your HR about this too.

Great to hear!
Me too!
Could you recommend some tools for a BA that a beginner can start learning/implementing? Thanks
Do you have to be a very extroverted individual to be a good BA? I'm kind of an introvert and have a hard time thinking about things to say in a group settings and I just sit there. Also I suck at interviews and choke on questions during them even though i practice a million times. I majored in information technology management and currently work as an IT helpdesk analyst at a large company. Thought I could get a BA position out of college with the degree but you know how it goes if the whole experience 2-5 years entry level bs. tbh kind of lost in general what I want now
xaznarthx NO! You don’t need to be extroverted to be a good BA. In fact, I’ve met many introverted BAs who are great BAs! I noticed that they’re very good listeners and as an ambivert myself, sometimes less is more. You need to be more prepared for meetings and think about what kind of questions you would like to ask beforehand.
Interviews are hard for everyone and it does take time and patience to become better at it. I’ve actually recently uploaded 6 actionable tips on how to become a BA in my channel and briefly touched on the interview portion. So check it out and let me know if you would like to see more tips on how to prepare for interviews. Since you work for a large company, you can apply for internal postings and maybe ask for developmental opportunities as BAs.
I didn’t get a BA job right after school either so I ended up working at a software company for three years before getting a role as BA so it does take time to get there. I know how frustrating it can be, but it’s important not to lose the sight of your end goal and where you want to be. I had fear of public speaking for awhile and I’m still working on it but it took a lot of years and practice to be a little bit more comfortable. Trust me, 18 years old myself would’ve never imagined of starting a YT channel. Sorry for the really long response but hope this helps!

I have been working under business profile for quite some years now, intend to start career as business analyst, please advise on must to learn aspects 🙂
Would you suggest the Agile Project Management Google certification to help you gain an advantage to become a business analyst?
Hello i finished my BSc in Accounting and would like to do a masters in business analytics , do you think that would be a great idea especially when I don't have much experience in that field?
I'd recommend gaining a couple of years of experience as a business analyst before going back to school. There are lots of companies that look for financial systems analysts who need accounting + software background.
Thank you for the great video! I am currently interning for a City government in an HR department and they have an opening for an assistant adminstrative analyst position. I applied since the general the general path can lead towards a management analyst position. Have you heard of management analyst positions in the private sector? I'm just curious if they are similar to business analyst positions because I have heard that they might be. I just wanted to gain some more perspective on that and of it is feasible to transfer those skills towards the private sector. I'm assuming you are in the private sector but correct me if I'm wrong. Thank you!
Edwin Cortez Hey!! I actually work for a public company so Im not too familiar with the management analyst position. Since the job title has ‘analyst’ in it, it could be something similar. You should also talk to someone in your HR department and ask questions about that management analyst positions.
I think its great that you’ve applied for this position because you are taking actions to get one step closer to becoming a business analyst. I never planned to become a business analyst in the first place. However, when I was transitioning my career and looked at my skill sets, I realized that I was able to transfer them more easily. Best of luck on your application and keep on trying!
@@RichMillennialMindset Hi there! Thank you for the reply. Nice to know you are in the public sector as well. I've been looking for positions and it seemed that business analyst positions were mostly found in the private sector but it's great that they are available in the public sector as well. It's interesting because when you were reading off your role and responsibilities it seems to be the similar to the adminstrative analyst or management analyst positions I've seen listed where I work so they are probably similar but just have different names. I never thought I would be looking at this career path either but it's just where my internship led me. Just hope that they will still hire with everything going on with the virus. Thanks again and stay safe!
Edwin Cortez Yes!! Thank you. Stay healthy and safe as well :)
In addition to internal and external business analysts wouldn't you say there are also what is called the functional and technical business analysts as well?
Leslie Garcia yes absolutely! I actually talked about different BA job titles and covered this in another video :) ruclips.net/video/0IezRN26bpY/видео.html
So if you are external, you are hopping from job to job constantly interviewing or risking being unemployed? Is most of the work done remotely? Thanks
@Alicia Not Alice If you are external BAs, you are either working for consulting companies such as Deloitte/Accenture or have enough work experience to work as a contractor.
It also depends on the circumstance. If you got hired for a project, you can end up working on a project for a couple of years. I wouldn’t worry about being unemployed or constantly job hopping as it’s unlikely.
Flexibility in working remotely totally depends on the company culture. I’ve seen BA jobs which require you to be in the office 100% and my current position allows me to work from home 3 days a week remotely. So this can vary significantly!
Mam i finished B.E in electronics and control engineering, iam going to apply for MSBA in usa, what are the job opportunities after I graduate.
I think it depends on what kind of job opportunities you're looking for! Make sure you do research on the degree and the school to see what kind of positions that alumni were able to land upon graduation.
Hello! You mentioned it is important that you understand the software it self. Can you give examples of software your talking about? Do you also do coding for solutions like python and Java?
Hey Blake! Yeah absolutely - I was referring to ERP software like Oracle, SAP, and Workday because I'm a business systems analyst. I know that some BAs do more coding than others depending on how technical their jobs are. I don't really use coding for my day-to-day work anymore, but I know SQL and basic JavaScript.
@@RichMillennialMindset Got it, thanks!
@@RichMillennialMindset When you say basic javascript how basic? I'm a BA for healthcare company but looking to transition more into technical BA and they ask for basic coding knowledge
Good video! What are your degree(s) in, how did you get into a BA role, and are there any courses that you could recommend or tips to a new BA? Also any meeting facilitation tips? Sorry for so many questions 😊
@mandyk510 Thanks Mandy! I majored in Bachelor of Commerce and I specialized in Organizational Behaviour and BTM (Business Technology Management).
I got into BA role by learning different HRIS technologies and working for different companies in HR roles. I actually ended up working at a software company in more consulting role before transitioning into BA role at my current company.
You should check out Business Analysis Fundamental course being offered at Udemy if you are starting out. If you want more in depth course, I would recommend looking into certifications. www.iiba.org/certification/core-business-analysis-certifications/

I don't recommend pursuing higher education unless you have clear ideas on what kind of career paths you want to pursue because going back to school can cost a lot of money and time. You don't need to know how to code as a BA unless you work with data quite a bit. Have you thought and researched some of the roles you want to pursue after completing Masters program?

Hi Wilson, we had a community member that asked this exact question. Here is a video that can give you some insight ruclips.net/video/zMwz_LqiZ2Q/видео.html
Hey Wilson! I think Business Analysis course at Udemy is a great resource and I upload my videos based on BABOK guide (Business Analysis Body of Knowledge). The CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional) is one of the most popular certifications you can pursue in business analysis. In the past, I've also taken Business Analysis Essentials for Projects which was an in person course which I thought was very useful.
In the future, I'm hoping to create a community where I can share more information on how to become BAs, and BA related skill sets and knowledge (e.g. Slack). Let me know if you have any specific questions and/or topics you would like to see in my channel too. Best of luck :)

Also, I put the comment above without watching the vid, currently watching.

Yes the job is challenging in many ways but it's a great option to start a career in this field after completing computer engineering! No not necessarily! You don't have to have IT education background to become a business analyst. Some of my colleagues transitioned into BA roles.
hey thanks for this heads up but pls can kindly raise the volume cos I struggle to hear most of what you were saying
Hey! I’m considering a job as a BA, did you think it was difficult to learn or do you think it’s stressful? Also if you don’t mind asking now much do you get paid on average (only if you feel comfortable saying so)
Yeah sometimes learning new technologies or business processes can be a steep learning curve and could be stressful at times. Starting salaries for BA would be depending on which country/area you live in. In North America, starting salaries would be around $70,000 but it could be less or more including bonuses and other benefits. It also depends significantly based on which company you work for.

What was your major or your education background? I heard BA is basically the less technical version of a Data Analyst and also encompasses similar responsibilities of the Project Manager... would you say this is fair to say?
David A Thanks for the comment. I’ve majored in Commerce (business degree) with dual specializations in Organizational Behaviour and MIS (Management Information System).
You’re right on in terms of BA responsibilities. I would say personally having some working knowledge of SQL and JavaScript helped me in certain positions but they’re not prerequisites.
Most successful BAs have a very strong knowledge of PM and some are certified PMP as well.
Rich Millennial Mindset that’s really cool! We kinda have a similar background in education! I have a business administration degree majored in marketing, completing my data analytics post-graduate certificate and became PM certified with the CAPM... however I feel like during the interviews they look down on me for not having a computer science degree, despite having a working knowledge of data modeling and SQL... I’m interested in getting the CBAP certification but kinda feel it wouldn’t add much value...? Have you considered getting this certification? Thanks for your video and responses! It definitely gives me more confidence!! :)
David A That’s awesome!!! Yeah it sounds like we do have similar background in education :)
Yes Im definitely contemplating CAPM but Im not sure if I wanna stay in BA role or want to transition into Product Management. Im in pursuit of change management certification since I think it’s critical for BAs to understand change management practices.
I guess if you plan on staying in BA roles for 5-10 years, it would be worth it and if you want to stay in BA for a period of time :) However, I’ve enrolled in online courses to keep up with my CAPM knowledge so that I can continuously learn and improve as well. So think about your next 5 year career goals and see if it will become value added.
Lastly, don’t let anyone else to judge you or look down upon you. You do not want to work for a company who doesn’t see potential in you!!! Lots of BAs come from non computer science background and we are killing it :)
Rich Millennial Mindset Thank you so much!! You’re so kind and encouraging - that will take you to far/many places 👍
As for the CAPM, I would definitely recommend it, especially if you want to work in projects and product management. I know I was granted interviews for my CAPM certification alone... you could even become a consultant in the future if that resonates with you. I do see myself working in this industry for the next 5 to 10 years so I’ll definitely look into getting the BCAP - thanks for putting it in perspective!
Btw, if you’re interested in taking the CAPM, I recommend taking Joseph Philips Udemy course for the CAPM.. that helped me a lot!
P.s I’ve subscribed :) looking forward to more content! Thanks! :)
David A Thanks so much! I will definitely look into it and get the certification too.
Thanks for the support and I can’t wait to grow knowledge and share experiences with you guys!
I have a question, what is the difference between business analyst and data analyst
Business Analyst works closely with the business to improve business processes or work on projects that are more strategically aligned, whereas data analyst focuses on analyzing data to better understand business trends and needs from customers, etc.
What’s the difference between business analyst and financial analyst?
Sophia Me Financial analysts work with financial data and use the finding to help companies make business decisions. There are many different types of BAs! Most BAs tend to work with systems and technologies more so than financial data.

I have a Masters degree in Org Psych and another one in Information Technology and Management , I don't have a technical background but ive worked in HR as a consultant as well as in People Analytics (with a research and development component for local government).
Have you considered a path in HRIS? You don't need coding knowledge in order to become HR Analyst or HRIS :) Sounds like this could be a good fit for you.
What was your major in college? I am working as a .NET Developer but I am thinking of moving to BA/QA. :)

Leopold Van Stotch Hey! Can I ask you why you’re interested in becoming a business analyst?
I think one helpful tip to market yourself is to think of a story of why you’re interested in pursuing this career path. Leopold Van Stotch You know what? Have you ever considered career in technology sales? Based on what you’ve told me so far, I think you would be a good fit for this job. Once you gain some experience as account executive or technology sales, you can build more analytical skill sets to become a business analyst. @@RichMillennialMindset Thanks! Please correct me if I am wrong, the Tools you used & informed here, it does create a path towards, Scrum, Agile, & Pmp?
N#DS # I think it depends on what you prefer. If you like working with data and writing queries and scripts, data analytics would be more applicable. Im not a data analyst but you should do some research as the career progression path for Data Analysts.
BAs work with people a lot including good presentation skills and communication skills. You actually end up writing a lot of documents and have to do presentations. So it depends on how you see yourself progress in your career.
Hows MBA in Business Analytics?
*DO WE NEED CALCULUS TRIGONOMETRY LIKE HIGHER MATH IN BUSINESS ANALYSIS MASTERS
IN SYLLABUS AND IN PRACTICAL JOB DO WE NEED CALCULUS??????*
It's crazy, I have been a business analyst for the past 7-10 years and didn't even realize it until now Lol..
LOL hahahaha sometimes its hard to explain what it is that we do to other people for sure
How long are the work hours?
Waz It depends! Busy season can be 60-70 hours a week and normally its 40-50 hours when there are less projects on the go. I think external BAs work crazy hours though and thats why I decoded to become an internal BA.
@@RichMillennialMindset do you still find time to do things you enjoy? Ik id pass out pretty quickly myself
Waz yup! I travel quite a bit and have enough time to enjoy my hobbies. My busy season is winter and I work less in the summer. So its perfect for my outdoor lifestyle
Hi..what kind of degree we need to be a business analyst..(software engineer or Management Information system?which will be very suitable?)
both would do, comes down to which one you like more and where you live.
Ss Sanju So I studied Commerce and specialized in Management Information System. This is less technical but gives you a good background knowledge with focus on integration of business world.
If you study Computer Science degree, you can become more technical and become a software developer. So if you like to be more technical, I would recommend studying to become a software engineer :)
@@zerokool-2058 I'm from Australia...🤔...Can u guess which one will be???
Ss Sanju Im speaking from living in the west. But Software engineer?
@@zerokool-2058 I really didn't understand?? Can u give me a direct answer..plz?
Right now im in the lrocess of graduating with a degree in business administration with an option in information technology management, is this the right degree to get into being a business analyst? If it is, what should be my next step? Entry level it support? Id really like to start somewhere where i can learn what i need to get to your position. Also awesome video!
Thanks Niko! So I'm not sure whether or not your information technology management is the same as the one I did which was called Management Information System. However, I think anything information tech related should be relevant to become a business analyst. It really depends on which career path you want to take.
I'd recommend entry level IT support/ tech sales/ implementation for tech industry would be good starting point. I started off as an implementation consultant for a small to medium sized software company and learned a ton from implementing ERP projects. This helped me pivot my career as a business analyst. I'll do a follow up video on how to find your path/story to change or break into different career paths/industry. Stay tuned!!
Also, there is another RUclips video I did on how to become a BA in 6 actionable steps: ruclips.net/video/0IezRN26bpY/видео.html
Hope you find this information useful!!
@@RichMillennialMindset You're amazing thank you! I'll check out the video, and keep an eye out for the next one :)
