thank you syd! i'm glad it was helpful! to add to your point, these skills stay the same but the level of 'ambigiuity' def increases as you grow as an analyst! for instance, I started out only analyzing for very specific asks (i.e can you graph the Y/Y user growth for every country) , then in I was asked to analyze based on a topic (i.e. can you analyze the impact of the marketing campaign), and ultimately now it's more so given an open ended business question, carry out the entire data analysis + biz thinking end to end (i.e. how should we allocate our budget per country next year? this will invovle thinking through a framework, understanding business context, looking into different biz performance indicators etc.) hope this helps!

Cool insight into what BAs do, I work with them as a developer but never asked what the job is like? In case anyone wants to know a developer's day in the life: 1. before going to sleep, keep the computer on and make it look like you're online 2. sleep 3. wake up and attend scrum from bed 4. go back to sleep until 12pm where it's lunch till 1pm 5. do work I hope my boss doesn't see this

I agree with JC, depending on the company and how they define the BA responsibilities writing SQL queries are not usually a requirement. However, the last few years I've seen an increase in BA positions that require 8 - 10 years of experience writing complex queries. That's usually a nice to have not a must have but it does weed applicants Nearly all of my friends, colleagues and former colleagues don't have that kind of background. I have know people who are database analysts who have that background and they tell me its stupid really to ask that much of a BA. Why? because with that experience writing complex SQL queries they can make more money as a database analyst than as a BA.
Do you think a certificate of data analysis would help to get into the industry? I’ve got a non related bachelor degree and have not idea if getting a certificate would get me a data analyst job 🤔
