Children are punished enough to be in situations where a parent is incarcerated. Such programmes help alleviate some trauma and introduce some semblance of normalcy - even for a day. Good on the community Chest/Salvation Army for doing this.

I agree with your above comments and yes it does help the children abit but at the same time cause more stress for the mother. After this meet up session the children will miss the dad more and the poor mother is the one who have to pacify and comfort the children and also make a living and travel to the prison every 2 weeks. Easy to say when you don't have prisoner in your household. I have a brother 30 years old but spend 16 years in and out of boy's home and prison. And we live in the west.
Everything have a consequence. Don't commit crime if you don't want to be dealing with such things. I won't pity any prisoners but i do pity their poor family members.
