  • In this video I give you a tour of the Syil X5 with the epoxy granite frame. When I was in the process of purchasing this machine about 6 months ago, I couldn't find that much information on it, so I thought a video like this would have been useful. I hope you find it useful or maybe interesting. Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any question.
    CORRECTION: Sorry I had a few typos on the table travel values in mm, I transposed a few numbers. Here are the correct metric values and the time stamps:
    3:17 Table Size X axis 22.8" (580mm)
    3:25 Table Travel X axis | 11.8" (300mm)
    3:45 Spindle Clearance Z axis | 18.5" (470mm)
    3:47 Travel Z axis | 11.8" (300mm)

    I remember researching epoxy granite for machine bases back in 2010. Glad to see someone who has figured it out!

      Oh wow that is cool! Yes the frames on the Syil is made by Scheenberger, it’s nicely made and very heavy

      They are fairly common on smaller machines from the bottom to the top these days. There’s a lot of benefits to it over traditional castings. But also some drawbacks that seem to limit it to more compact machine tools.

    Nice view of X5, I'm glad I ended up with X7 though given extra table size with 4th on and also access to rear/right side of machine given my floor layout. A video of this show at lot more than any manual or sales diagram - thanks.

      @kowalskprecison  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! Yeah everyone has different needs I guess. I think the X7 is Syil's bread and butter, but if your limited on space or just don't need the extra travel for one reason or another, the X5 is there. Also you get 20K RPM spindle, which is useful for those smaller tools. Thanks for your insight!

    Thanks for sharing. This model has gotten my attention, especially now after Titans of CNC is into Syil as distributor. I like the design and layout of the newest Syil machines that seems to be more proffesional than older models from a few years back.

    How many inches tall is it with the spindle at maximum height?

    • @kowalskprecison
      @kowalskprecison  7 месяцев назад +1

      It gets to about 95" when it does a tool change. The energy chain are slightly above the spindle so that measurement is to the chains.

    Awesome, thanks for doing this! I'm also thinking of getting an X5 in the near future. Could you share some details on your phase converter / transformer setup? I heard from the sales people that in can run on single phase, but it reduces the HP from 10 to 4. And any troubles/challenges/tips for getting the machine moved into place in your garage? Did you hire riggers?

    • @kowalskprecison
      @kowalskprecison  7 месяцев назад +1

      Sure! I'm running a American Rotory Phase converter AD20. Its more than I need for this machine but it gives me some extra capacity if I want to add another machine later. The transformer came with the machine which converts the 3phase 220V to 3phase 420-450V I'm not sure if the machine with Syntec 22MA control would run on single phase, I don't believe so, but I believe the LNC controller does. The machine is very heavy. You will need at bare minimum a 6000lb capacity forklift with 6ft forks. I move it myself, with some help, but if you're not comfortable moving really heavy things I would hire it out. One wrong move would be a disaster. Hope that helps

    Is the height from the spec sheet accurate? My garage has a fairly low height at the door and I’m not sure if I can fit a Syil in there.

    • @kowalskprecison
      @kowalskprecison  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes I believe it is accurate. My garage door has clearance of 83.5in and it just barely fit through. I had to loosen the energy chains to get it through the door.

    • @EZ_shop
      @EZ_shop 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@qdp03That's what I thought. I'm assuming you have single phase 220 in your garage, stepped up to 380 by the transformer supplied with the X5. I didn't see a phase converter in your shop, how are you getting three phase to the machine?

    • @kowalskprecison
      @kowalskprecison  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes. It needs 3 phase 220v to feed the transformer here in the US. I have an American Rotary phase converter on the other side of the shop that feeds the disconnect switch I showed in the video.

    How big of a breaker are you using for the machine ?
    Thanks!!!

    • @kowalskprecison
      @kowalskprecison  7 месяцев назад +1

      Its dependent on the size of the phase converter you would be using. If you have 3 phase power supplied from the utility company, I believe it would need a 30A breaker, but I would verify that with SYIL before doing any electrical work.

    • @TheNobleone-d9f
      @TheNobleone-d9f 7 месяцев назад

    How do you think it would machine A-2 D-2 tool steel? I do die work.

    • @kowalskprecison
      @kowalskprecison  7 месяцев назад

      I haven't machined A-2 or D-2 steel yet. You're not going to get the same performance as a 20hp machine but with the right cutting parameters I would expect it handle it with no problems. So far, I've machined, 1018, 4140, SS440, SS304, 6061, 7075 with no signs of any issues.
