JR East announced that some of the E657 series limited express trains on the Joban Line would revive the five colors of the former E653 series trains. The "Yellow Jonquil" has started running since April 2023.

Commissioned in 2012 on the Joban Line in Greater Tokyo, 19 ten-car electric multiple units make up the Express E 657 limited series operated by the Eastern Japan Railway Company, JR EAST, although derived from the e259 series, the similarity seems impossible at first glance. . Built between 2011 and 2019, the hitachi, j-trec, kinki sharyo E 657 series replace the E 651 and E 653 series from the same manufacturers. The E 657 series is featured on all Hitachi and Tokiwa express services between Shinagawa and Sendai on the Tōkaidō, Ueno, Tokyo, Jōban and Tohoku (shinagawa - iwaki) and Tokiwa (shinagawa - katsuta) lines to and from their destinations. in Sendai, they operate the entire Joban line. Trains also run between Shinagawa and Ueno after the opening of the ueno-tokyo line. They were supposed to run between Ueno and Iwaki, but some Hitachi services serve Sendai after the Joban Line was rebuilt. Underwater earthquake in 2011 which caused a giant tsunami and a nuclear meltdown following the entry of seawater into the reactors. The trains are mostly pale pink, purple and red, a color palette that references the flowers of the Japanese apricot trees found in the areas this train passes through. In November 2022, JR EAST announced that five units of the E 657 series would be repainted in the liveries used when launched on Fresh Hitachi Express Services Limited compared to the older K-17, K-12, K-2 and K units. -1 and K3 of the old E 653 series which it replaces. The first to inaugurate this Revival Color in December 2022 received the (Green Lake K-17 livery.) inspired by Lake Kasumigaura. The second units, the red (K-12 scarlet flower livery) returned to service on February 12, 2023, taking inspiration from the Kairakuen garden. The third set received yellow (Yellow Daffodil K-2) and returned to service on April 29, 2023, inspired by the flowers of Hitachi Seaside Park. The fourth, received a blue livery (K-1 ocean blue livery) and was returned to service on June 10, 2023, taking inspiration from the K-1's Pacific Ocean. The fifth and final unit, the color orange (khaki orange K-3) on September 27, 2023, inspired by the autumn leaves around Fukuroda Waterfall.
