We are here again playing some of these clips to keep us sane at Hogmanay as the TV is rubbish. I love these guys and they will remain alive and full of fun in my heart for all time.
Im 58 years old and I had the pleasure of taking Jack to greenock to play with his brother tom it was around 40 years ago I stayed all night until about 2am fantastic memories ❤ 💙
A fine wee tribute to Andy Stewart. The Alexander Brothers were great favourites of my late wife, so she would have loved this clip. Most older folk in Scotland no longer tune in to the Hogmanay shows on BBC and STV... these have been adapted for younger generations, the majority of whom who have no time for traditional Scottlsh music. We are left with only memories of Kenneth McKellar, Moira Anderson, Roddy McMillan, Bill McCue, The White Heather Dancers, Dixie Ingram, Jimmy Shand, The Macdonald Sisters, Duncan Macrae, Peter Morrison, Alistair Macdonald and many others of that ilk. (Apologies if some names are incorrectly spelt - or if I've missed your favourites!)
JesterJukebox As a young person I can agree that most the hogmanay shows for last umpteen years have been utter keek. It's good to watch over some of the old hogmanay shows on the STV RUclips channel, Johnny Beattie always pops up
I have been watching this in the last two week every morning and it cheers me up. His shooders went up and doon lol great stuff true proffesonals and great patter
This is how Hogmanay should be.Bring back first footing, everybody going from house to house. The street parties are ok but we have had our fill. Happy new year for 2020
Saw them many times In Oakville Ontario Canada quite a while ago now it seems when I was in my youth lol. I went with my parents who always listened to them on a regular basis. They were quite fun to see since they were so interactive with the audience.
Had a few 'wee drams" with these two chaps way back when we were all young in the late '50's in Perth Theatre. Met up with them again in Canada years later. Miss you Jack and the great music you created with Tom.
Whilst Jack lent his extremely gifted vocals to every song his brother,Tom played the accordion to get toes tapping and hands clapping, both masters of their art in Scottish and folk music.
Bloody Bloody brilliant...brings back many memories, just played The Dark Island recently at my mum’s funeral Absolutely haunting making me proud to be Scottish although I have lived in Perth Australia for the last 33 years. Nothing will match the sound of the bagpipes...thanks Jack & Tom xx
I was brought up with the Alexander Brothers music when my gran would play their records in the 70's. Brings back nice memories. Thoughts and best wishes go out to Jack as he suffered a major stroke a couple of days ago and is critically ill.
Entertainment was made for this pair. Great! A wee snapshot of what they were so good at. Though there was so much more aswell. Classical accordion and piano, country songs, songs from musicals, etc etc. But always the best! Jack, much missed!
You two are the best ever. I met you when I was about 6 or 7 at Nairn community centre a you stayed in the vic hotel and got to know my granny Ella rip jack and keep the music going Tom
What ever happened to their original recordings from the 60s Pye records folded up that I know but what happened to the masters of Nobodys Child etc back then, aye I know ye kin get them on CD but not the original recordings that were made by Pye Records unless you source whats left of the records and buy a record deck.
Every Hogmanay we had the Alexander brothers, Andy Stewart and all to celebrate with us. Nothing in many years.
Thank you mum
Brings back happy memories
