They have no minimum salary floor, so they can trade away their potential stars while always crying small market. It's bullshit.

    The Yankees still have an annual payment of $70 million for the new stadium (PILOT or payment in lieu of taxes), plus an annual $30 million payment to NYC for maintenance of the stadium. So that's $100 million before non-player salaries (including Brian Cashman and Randy Levine on down to the hot dog vendors; say another $50 million), plus cost of goods sold (admittedly at a huge markup), plus a player payroll of $300 million, plus travel costs, etc. Add $32.4 million in 2023 for luxury tax payments. So the Yankees' annual nut is probably well over $500 million. So they have to earn enough to clear more than $500 million after taxes (including an additional 7.25% NYS) or lose money.

      Players Union would never allow that. Anyway, the amount of money players make seems ridiculous until you realize how much the owners are worth.

    The Old Man made moves like a fan, not like a savvy baseball guy.
    Had it not been for Stick Michael and the rest of the front office getting it done while George was banned from baseball, there’s no Core Five. And every Yankee fan knows it.
    Hal has a $300m payroll so he’s not being cheap, but payroll for ALL teams is gonna get stupid very soon.

    Sayonara Juan Soto. Boss don't have $700 million dollars for you. I say trade Aaron Judge and then Juan Soto can be signed. Yankees also proved Gerrit Cole is spendable. Trade him as well. Money will be freed up for Juan Soto.

  • @markwolfson2023
    @markwolfson2023 2 месяца назад

    No on Soto. Example: Last night. Soto fails in 9th inning. Imagine he is on a 60 million per year contract with that result last night. Instead, we have a minor league last night failed, got tagged, while Marinaccio goes back to minors. The proper path is to get solid pitching, and develop more young players for our team (contrary to Hal's belief that he has been successful in player development). Not enough be a long stretch. Soto is good, but not worth what he is asking, not even close. And we will still not win with him.
