    I love that Elphaba also makes all the lights in Oz shatter/explode and go out at the same time right before her battle cry in Defying Gravity. It shows another level of her power that we don't get to see in the stage show. *Chills*

    It's like we all knew it would be good right? But no one could prepare us for how good it actually is. It's the masterpiece the fans are saying it is and much more. A CINEMATIC immersive, layered, fun, emotional and overall incredible experience. Instant classic.

    Watched it!!! I was more on noticing the small details and loved it. Talking about the opening scene, when the actor sang ‘no one mourns the wicked’ part… I felt it and started to bawl! Also, subtle acting well done from Ari when she’s holding her emotions, deeply hurt when Elphie’s gaining popularity but she still smiling at the same time. Was it just also me who noticed that only Jonathan can exude hotness fully clothed. Swooned over Dancing Through Life. Kudos to the cast!!!

    First, before I even go any further, I want to say, I 100% agree that I knew within 10 seconds of the first song starting we were in for the same treat you described. The increased orchestrations you can only get with a movie soundtrack IMMEDIATELY hitting was just....amazing. I've seen it twice, both in 3D (if you haven't see it in 3D, you should, as soon as No One Mourns starts you will understand the movie was made for 3D. It's amazing) and a couple of takeaways I have.
    1. The movie pretty overtly says Glinda is STILL not magical by the time Elphaba "dies". Her bubble is not magic, it's mechanical, there's a literal button to raise the bubble, and she pops it with the sharp tip of her wand. She's using Wizard tech to fly.
    2. Morrible's change to a simple professor and the addition of the separate headmistress character (in addition to hopefully giving us Keala Settle singing in Part 2. Hiring her for a musical and not having her sing is like hiring Shaq to star in your basketball movie and then making him the photographer) to me SCREAMS about the Wizard's influence. She's the only magical person outside of Elphaba we see the ENTIRE show, and she doesn't even take students every semester? How would that fly? Unless the Wizard keeps her in the position to look for people who were actually magical, someone who might be able to read the Grimmerie. "You're the one the Wizard has been waiting for" well what better way to know that than to have her in a position to sort through sorcery students at Shiz?
    3. Every single change was additive, and made the experience better. G and E actually talking to each other at the beginning of What Is This Feeling was genius. The extended dance break for Ozdust and the entire Dancing Through Life sequence was just a visual wonder to watch. The first time I watched it, I went into the movie completely blind, being a fan of the musical, but not even having seen the trailer for the movie, and I didn't know most of the movie was practical, so the first time it was visually stunning, and the second time I watched it, it was TECHNICALLY stunning, knowing it was all real, after watching behind the scenes obsessively after seeing it first time.
    4. Ariana is gonna get Best Supporting. Cynthia will probably be nominated for Best Actress for Act 2, which is where her dramatic acting is really done. If you had told me 2 months ago I'd be sitting here saying Ariana Grande-Butera was gonna win a damn Oscar for Wicked, I'd have asked what you were smoking, and then asked for some to smoke with you. But she's got it, she stole the show. No disrespect to Cynthia, she was pitch perfect and amazing, but her range didn't have to be that wide for Act 1, given her turn happens only in the last song.
    5. Michelle Yeoh is a HUGE acting get. Not a huge singing get, but a HUGE acting get. Only (current) Oscar winner in the cast. I loved how dark the character was, and her reading of the announcement of Elphie's wickedness gave me CHILLS.
    6. IDK how they're gonna do Nessa's enchanted slippers, but I loved Marissa in the role regardless.

    I just saw it yesterday and I’m still buzzing just, omg… I’m not a theatre kid, I’ve never seen a live musical, I didn’t know anything about Wicked besides the Wizard of Oz and a vibe of “so this is gonna be like the Maleficent movies right?” WRONG 😂
    Something has CHANGED, for real. Idk if I have a theatre kid hiding inside me or if the movie was just that good (both? It’s both isn’t it) but my feelings towards this experience cannot be put into words. I loved it. I loved it, so much. I watched it yesterday. Cried at the very beginning of the movie. I had a feeling the movie would start off with no one mourns the weekend, since it sets the stage for a familiar environment. but damn, nothing could have prepared me for just how beautiful and immersive it was. It's just such a powerful song, I just cry out of sorrow and admiration at the same time. The cost to design was amazing. Everyone acted their asses off. Every emotional scene was emotional. Cynthia Erivo made me cry so much. But what's new lol. I want to make my own video on this because I have so much to say.

      She was so great. The relationship dynamic between her and Elphaba completely changed from the musical making her twist at the end much more tragic. They were hugging throughout the film, she was always reassuring Elphaba being so sweet, she lost her dream but her mentor too. The look she gave Glinda at the end. She said so much without saying any words. Chills. Michelle Yeoh the woman that you are.

    • @olucasb93
      @olucasb93 2 месяца назад +1

      Another moment that I'd like to praise from her is the way she brings up to Elphaba the paint on the chalkboard of Dr. Dillamond's class. She was very subtle about it but with the way Michelle Yeoh portrays it, you can completely realize it was her doing. And the whole scene could easily become cartoonish but it never does. I never caught that detail on the play.

    Hi Chris. It has been touching going through the build up to Wicked to this review with you. I love folks who are so willing to share your thoughts and honest theater. I don't know if you saw the clip of Cynthia doing The Color Purple on Broadway, but I think it will be powerful for you. Like Elphabah, Ceelie has had some horrendous things done to her in the play. She had to learn that she had been lied to, she is not ugly, and she has power.
    ruclips.net/video/VKtFfqinmWo/видео.htmlsi=mZhZbu4YSwMzfA3S

    I live fairly close to the warner bros Harry Potter studio tour in England where they house and display many of the original sets of the harry potter movies and it's always so surreal walking round there. I don't think Wicked will have the cultural impact of HP of course but would be silly of universal to let the costumes / sets / props go to waste. Make a museum or attraction I beg.
