I CRIEDDDDDD at the dance scene - it was so so painful to watch someone who thought 'okay I will give these people a try maybe I was wrong about them' and she wasn't wrong about them. She took a chance and they shamed her, humiliated and laughed. I really cried.

Then you see someone (Glinda) hesitantly walk up to you and try to dance with you albeit awkwardly. People can say what they want about Glinda, but to say that she was never Elphaba’s bff is asinine. I mean in No One Mourns, we see Glinda try her hardest to not to go off on the Ozians for being disrespectful about her friend and pretty much elegantly crash out over her loss and decision.

@@mariahc.crawley884 there’s room for both. Glinda’s decision can also stem from a fear of being ostracized (I mean she saw it firsthand with being close to Elphaba), something that perfectionists tend to avoid doing. I just know that when Act 2 comes around, Glinda’s character going to be even more complicated.

I saw Wicked with my daughters tonight…so emotional! How Elphaba keeps her kindness and humanity despite being treated so cruelly by those less than her in character AND super powers than was harrowing and inspiring. When she made that statement about the premenition that she knows someday there will be a celebration about me and my mind flashing back to the beginning of the movie…so many gut punches like that in this movie! 😢

Yep, that's the first time I cried. She was manifesting but all her manifestations took on a whole new meaning. In the same song she also references herself melting, which broke me. She was so sweet and loving and mean-spirited people ruined that and assassinated her character and then her later on.

Thanks for making this review! I saw the movie alone and have no one to talk with about how it made me feel.
You have a great perspective that I hadn’t thought about because I was stuck on the race part of elphaba. Your POV made me think of other ways I related to the movie and why I was crying during various parts while watching the movie in the theater.
While watching, I felt upset about how elphaba was being treated, and felt knots in my stomach up until she went to emerald city where she finally fit in and wasn’t being ostracized.
I didn’t feel Glenda was her friend at all, but more so a clout chaser who felt guilt and pity after elphaba got the madam to give her a wand.
Once elphaba started singing defying gravity, the tears wouldn’t stop. That has always been one of my favorite songs even though I never saw the play (couldn’t afford it).

56:41 - as a content creator, this is BARS!! The extreme audacity people have to think it's okay to so comfortably rip people apart and tell you everything they feel about you, every unsolicited, rude, unkind, and unnecessary opinion and then turn around and say "oh well, that's part of being a content creator/ showing up so publicly." And no. NEVER. You do NOT get to destroy me.

3:35 Just to clarify that Wicked, both the stage play and film, are technically adapted from the 1995 book _Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West_ by Gregory Maguire, but are functionally more of a crossover-fusion with the Maguire book and the MGM 1939 _Wizard of Oz_ film.
I think the hope with Part 2 is that they will draw more material from the Maguire book so as to justify it being a whole separate film.

Wicked is a movie! I never knew the origin story of the Wicked Witch Elphaba but it's so sad. She still gave people chances despite being constantly bullied for something she couldn't control. I also wished Glinda didn't change sides (as it's hinted she will by the way that wizard teacher hugged her near the end after Elphaba flies away. Although Glinda becomes a good witch she's really just a pawn of the wizard of Oz and that wizard teacher. She could have supported Elphaba without going with her. Anyway Cynthia and Ariana did a amazing job.

What makes my situation a little more difficult and maybe a little harder for some to understand or empathize with the way I feel, is the way I look. I don't look like I should have any trouble fitting in or getting along with people or being "picked". I'm too pretty to feel like that. My body is too banging to feel like that. My personality and energy are too contagious for me to feel like that. Yet at the end of the day, I still do feel like that. I definitely also relate to Elphaba being a perpetual outsider. I think some of the brilliance of Wicked is it’s “easy” for a lot of people to relate to marginalization to someone who is green, lol, it’s very broad - although I do appreciate the layers the cast adds to it.

Stephco, you are beautiful, brilliant, intelligent, funny, creative, insightful, etc., The features you believe are unacceptable are actually what make you pretty. You have a gorgeous smile, full, natural lips, cocoa skin, unique nose that fits your face, and pretty eyes. You were made for this… what you are doing right now. You are more relatable than you are aware of. You stated that people say you’re made for “something special” and you wonder what that thing is (excuse my paraphrasing). I think you’ve found it - sharing yourself and perspective with the world via social media. Your videos are therapeutic. Maybe “special” is uncomfortable….at first. Maybe, it’s uncomfortable until you make peace with it and accept it. You have a beautiful mind. Your transparency is golden. I enjoy your videos. Keep doing what you are doing. P.S. I actually want to see the movie now! 😊

I feel like during the dance scene, Galinda finally sees that she and Elphaba are the same. She uses her looks and charm to disguise her lack of confidence in her magical abilities. Elphaba has green skin, its not something she can easily hide so she has to face it head on.
I feel like black women relate often to Elphaba because we're different in a way we can't ever hide. At least in America. We try to assimilate, but we are what we are. And that's ok.

Wow. I saw so much of myself in your description of fitting in (in predominantly white environments). I've never seen or read Wicked, but I might give it a try after hearing your interpretation.

Thanks for this Stephanie! I’ve never seen Wicked! I really think so many people in our society are just not mentally well and this is why they have this warped mindset that something is bad because they don’t agree with someone or some idea. You rock and so many of us love you in this space. ❤😎🙌

Im sorry you went through this negative experience, i myself never really fit in, i had many associates but i never felt like i found my tribe. I realized in my adult years that no matter how "weird" you are, theres always people like you out there just like you, 8 billion humans cannot be the same. I have seen some of the "weirdest " people have lots of friends like them, i guess the hard part is finding your tribe, they are out there tho no matter how different or weird one is

Wow wow wow. This was a first time watch for me and I subscribed to your channel at the 30 minute mark, even though I had never run across you before. I was captivated by the whole video. A great job between analyzing the film and weaving in your own stories and commentary. Now listen to your fans: you are something special.

I had been waiting until I saw wicked to watch this video and I’m so glad that I did wait! You look so beautiful and it feels like we’re conversing about the movie a little lol. I cried about 4-5 different times while watching Wicked. I have felt like elfaba both before and after recognition- my entire life and to see it on screen is really something else. Besides extreme validation and empathy I just I’m overwhelmed and really impressed. They did amazing

I did not see the Wicked Musical, didn’t really care for Cynthia or Arianna .. & didn’t plan on seeing the movie. But after watching the trailer on RUclips, I was slightly curious about the premise of the film. So this video was right up my alley. I immediately got a snack & cracked open my lap top 👍🏽 Thanks

I saw it over the weekend and LOVED every minute of it. So many feelings, emotions and messages throughout.
I do think there were a lot of similarities to the Broadway version, but also many differences. I feel the movie version was moreso based around Elpaba, and hands down, Cynthia Erivo was THEE star of the show!!
PS..I was hoping you would make a Wicked movie review. Thanks for granting my wish. 😊

I went in blind not reading the novel or seeing it on Broadway, and i was blown away, especially by the end. Defying gravity raptured my soul. Definitely found some unexpected healing and validation in that movie. Cynthia did the darn thing in it! 🔥 ❤ definitely related to Not That Girl on so many levels.

They damaged her reputation and ran her name so much in the news even ppl who liked her were exhausted hearing about her. I will never not think the royal family isnt evil.
