Jon Chu better get an Oscar nom. The man did a phenomenal job. As of now, I’m really hoping Ari sweeps every awards show, unless something comes out and really blows me away. She’s just so damn good. I can’t think of anyone who deserves it more.
I agree the international numbers are very strange, I’m in the U.K. and it’s doing amazing business over here, I just guess it’s not catching on in other countries. The one market I do think it will do very well is Japan, but bizarrely they’re not getting it until March! It’s certainly not over yet though, I do think it will play well all over Christmas, and like you say sing along screenings will encourage repeat viewings. At the end of the day half a billion in three weeks is still a massive success 🤷🏻♂️
Ok I’m holding on for hope Cynthia gets that win because every scene she was in she broke my heart with her emotion and depth that she added to Elphaba
@@chris.thespookygay she might have a tough competition but I heard when they screened wicked it got a standing ovation like opphenhiemer did last year and they cried at the ozdust scene so maybe that and defying gravity will sell Cynthia’s chance at winning because she was the heart of the story
Now let’s see the Oscar noms but I have a feeling if Cynthia is nominated they won’t give it to her knowing the history of how they see black people in the industry
Or…First, they give it to her because she is BRILLIANT in the film! But they also can also turn that narrative around and reward her because then she will be the youngest person to receive EGOT status and be the 2nd woman of color to win Best Actress behind Halle Berry!
I hate how Jon chu didn’t get his golden globe nomination like without his direction the film wouldn’t have been so well done with the way the acting and direction for each scene went like come on now.
I honestly don't get why Wicked is not performing as well outside of the US. My first thought is that the songs are in English, so there's probably that language barrier. But then why would a family movie that sucks like Moana 2 perform so well overseas? I don't get it. Perhaps they're buying into the misinformation that the witches are gay? It's already caused Wicked to be banned in Kuwait, after all. Anybody who thinks the witches are gay either haven't seen the film or are some lgbt+ person reading way too much into their friendship and wishing it were so.
Well unfortunately Disney just has that pull and Moana is a TRUE family film! I do think the runtime of Wicked Part 1 has something to do with it as well. Both Parts totally will make over a billion and I will be happy with that! 😊 Also, when the sing a long version is released…I do feel like it’s box office will increase!
@ Interesting. I’m genuinely surprised it doesn’t look on track to cross the $1 billion mark. I thought for sure that if a hard-R rated, not particularly well reviewed movie like Deadpool & Wolverine could do it, so could a family friendly PG-rated well-reviewed film like Wicked!
@ It didn’t help that Moana 2 was released a week later. If it didn’t have Moana on its tail…it definitely would’ve or been close to a billion! Maybe Part 2 will hit a billion since the reaction to Part 1 is so strong! 🤞🏽
I'm from Colombia. Wicked is not doing well here because this country is not a musical target. I didn't know about Wicked until I saw Glee or noticed Ari's love for the musical (I know about it as a fan of hers). The live show never made it up here; I guess the same happened in many more countries. So maybe that's what's happening. The musical might be a huge thing in US, but there are so many more countries that are not involve with the musical culture.

I wore that same shirt every time I saw wicked in theatres

Its me again sorry haha. can you a reaction for every deleted senes? thats would be soo good 🥺
I’m gonna react whenever it is fully released on digital! So the 30th I’m going to react to the deleted scenes😊😊😊
@chris.thespookygay thank you🤗
i saw it and Chris I need to know your thoughts on changing the title of part two, hmm
Recorded reactions would work great!
Ok! Yeah I’ll just record myself reacting to the categories and (hopeful) wins!

I know. It really sucks! But…I’m holding out for Part 2🤞🏽

Has the movie opened in all the other international regions yet?
The only 2 left is Germany and Japan! (Japan it doesn’t even release until MARCH!!)🤯🤯

@@chris.thespookygay Possibly because of all the dubbing needed to do for Japan...🤷♀
@ possibly! But March is such a crazy time to release it! Every award show will be over by then! lol!

That makes a lot of sense! Thanks so much for the input!😊
So it won’t make a billion ?but is a chance to make it tho ?
It won’t make a billion. It’ll make more money but not a billion. BUT… combination of Part 1 and 2 will no doubt make over a billion!
