Beautiful and very respectful. You are still one of the most underrated people in Hollywood (actress/writer/producer/director), a scientist (neurology/physiology/physics), and also as a feminist (supporting "Pink Caps", LGBT, and the struggle for equality women deserve). All of this, plus the fact your religion is involved so gracefully and filled with the allure that will help your family feel focused. This video was wonderful.

I have listened to this 3 times and.cried 3 times. Closing my eyes, I experienced a world I've never known. This is so we'll written and I got lost in the words. This is not a statement about religion but a statement about traditions and love of others. More importantly, it's a statement of love for oneself. Thanks for including me in your boundaries.

For anyone interested, the mezzuah is posted on any and all doors in the house that a person can walk through, except for bathrooms. Many people kiss the mezzuzah as they walk through the door, and it symbolizes that everything one does in the room should be watched over and protected.

You are so right, the meaning is the protection. Without faith it has no meaning. It's not a lucky charm, it is a symbol, a reminder of God's promises. I personally need to be reminded more often because I find living in this world very hard. So much pain and heartache in this world and all the bad things that happen, distracts me so easily and makes me feel like I'm alone. It's good to remind ourselves, it's necessary.
Love your videos. It wakes me up again.

Cathy Rasmussen as a dweller in Israel I can tell you how surprisingly safe it is, (if you are talking about the desire for stability for political, emotional or intellectual reasons I can’t help you there) media makes it seem like the Wild West and while residents like to joke that it’s the most third world first world county that’s more a reflection of thins like standard of service (not always good) etc. the ultimate truth is it’s one of the places I and many other feel most safe and statistically it’s really not all that bad or unsafe particularly when compared to pretty much any major metropolitan city in America, it just gets more acute media attention when bad things do happen.

I'm a Christian, but I don't believe there's anything - God or Jesus - that will protect you. I've seen and heard of too many good people in this world suffering loss, illness and brutality and with what's happening now in the world in our country I REALLY don't respect either doctrine or dogma. I'm glad people believe in their own individual faiths, whatever that is, but this demand that religious dogma run our country's political system has whole-heartedly destroyed the country they thought needed saving. It's sad because religion used to be a very personal choice, a way people defined their lives. Now it's become a cult-like tyrant to be avoided at all costs. At least Mayim is saying it's her personal choice and not something everyone else needs to adhere to.

I'm an Ashkenazic Jewess, 62, but I was raised secular. I don't keep to Jewish laws nor many Jewish traditions, but I do keep a Mezuza on my front door, if I had had children I would have named them with the first initial of my mother's name and my father's name (grandparents too), I don't drink milk while eating meats (although I do have cheeseburgers and lobster tails). I admire you Mayim and the way you respect, follow, practice, respect and love our religion. The thing that disturbs me most is that my mother and Bubby didn't teach me Yiddish. They only spoke it to keep secrets from me. So that part of my own heritage was stolen from me. I don't want to be a misery, I just want to say that I admire, respect and envy you your knowledge and respect for our mutual religion. Mayim, go to your parents and thank them for teaching you/bringing you to synagogue/and keeping your heritage within you. You are lucky and blessed.

The challenge we face to live a life of contentment is the ever changing boundaries we allow others to define, based on their set of values. As individuals we need to think what our values are - if we can accomplish that - the boundaries of freedom will be opened.

Inspiring. Thanks for sharing this with us. Interesting how similar rituals cross belief boundaries. Being raised as a Roman Catholic, we use to have the priest come and bless a home we were moving into. Here in England from the mid-1500s to mid-1700s they would etch markings into window frames, hearths, door frames, anywhere evil could enter the house. You can still see these marks in old buildings that have not been modernized.

Mayim, the English language lacks the proper words to convey the impact of your mezuzah video. Less than 5 minutes before I received the RUclips alert about your latest upload, I had started looking for a mezuzah for my home. I wanted to spend time picking one which mirrored the values which I and my family also hold dear. As a Jew in a mixed religion household, I know this mezuzah is "just for me." However, I look forward to answering questions from friends and family about the mezuzah. Your video inspired me to think about its purpose and meaning in a different light. We adopted our 25-year-old son from Guatemala shortly before his 12th birthday. His prior world was filled with beautiful Mayan traditions as well as Central America Catholic traditions.
Videos like this one help me explain parts of my heritage to my indifferent husband and disconnect son.
I am proud of my Jewish heritage. As a result, I want to display the mezuzah with the additional goal -- to reassure all Jews who pass through this threshold marked by my mezuzah that they are safe, welcome, wanted and loved. This "boundary" is one of protection from the "outside world." Thank you, Mayim, for persistently posting about your faith and other important and/or interesting topics.

Benicia Livorsi have u walked in houses where u didn't feel loved or safe bc if your Jewish faith? I'm from a very small really rural farming community in the deep south and I can honestly say I have never heard in derogatory thing towards the Jewish people. Not in church or in Huddle's privately where gossip usually took place. Yes I have heard awful racist things growing up from biggots whom assume all white people think like them, but never about Jewish folk. Maybe bc we had none around. And no one had ever even met one as far as they knew. Sorry for the rambling.

Yes, I have had that experience...more when I was younger. I grew up in a area where I was the only Jew around until 9th grade. While I moved only a few miles away, the difference in the school districts alone was life changing for me. When I was younger, I heard all sorts of anti-semetic things. As an adult, I have other adults in a position of power over me and others say "I can't trust anyone who doesn't accept Jesus as his or her savior." I battle those views regularly in my professional life.

    • @JustHeAndMe7733

Benicia Livorsi I'm sorry Christians have said and done things to hurt you. I am a Christian and while I treasure my faith, I know that the very Jesus I serve was in fact Jewish. In my opinion that in itself should make our Jewish brothers and sisters even more previous to us. God Himself said in the Bible we are supposed to diligently study that the Jewish people are His chosen people. It also tells us to pray for, support, and bless Israel. Those who bless Israel will b blessed and those who curse her will be cursed. Now to me that is serious business. Not a game. And certainly not something I want to mess around with. God the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, the Most High, Jehovah, El Shaddai, does not say anything frivolously. He has purpose in every word He spoke. I think personally, Christians could learn a few things from our Jewish brothers and sisters. Many traditions were never meant to be ignored just because someone believed that Jesus was the Messiah. The faithfulness in keeping the traditions God commanded in the old testament should still continue today. I have never read anywhere that they had become obsolete. They still have meaning and purpose whether Jesus is in the picture or not. God is the same. I'm very passionate about this topic. There is to much division between people who serve the same God. I pray for Israel and for my Jewish brothers and sisters every morning. I pray for your safety, health, peace, freedom, and for you to be blessed beyond measure. I hope one day more Christans will wake up and live like we are told to in God's word. "Love one another." Sorry this is so long but I felt it was important.

as a muslim i can say we have much more common traits that bond us rather than separate us. we too as muslims keep the word of god at our doorstep to protect those who live in our homes and ward off negative energy. sending you much love and positive energy your way.

Mayim, this new video by you, is absolutely beautiful and extremely touching. It is something that all of us should think about, even if you are religious or not. You have put the need for religion back in my life, and I want to "Thank You", for this. I will always keep up the faith, and I know you, your ex-husband and your sons will be right there with me. Say hello to your Mom for me, and wish her good health.

Thank you for this simcha, Mayim. When my sons' father chose to leave us after 11 years for his bleach-blonde secretary and her fake bosoms I ended up having to sell our beautiful home, go back to work as a Nurse to support my sons, and live in a second floor rental.I have never hung a mezuzah since. I have felt too much grief, shame, sorrow, and anger. It is 30 years later and he is in the grave this past 8 years, dead of Cancer. I light yartzeit for him every year, something I know that other woman wouldn't know to do since she is a gentile and such a low-life that she once tried to force my little grandsons to eat bacon. After watching this I think maybe it is time I get over blaming her, accept that my ex-husband was a real mamzer, make teshuva, and hang mezuzim again.

This is the first time to react on a video ever. English is not my native tong. But I was so touched and moved by this video. I keep boundaries to choose what to remind me what to keep out, but also what to keep in. Thank you, Mayim, for these words. I needed them today.

Julie Harrington .... But, sadly , they can also separate & truly divide us. From a very young age our various religious doctrines are ever so subtly embedded into our psyches as being the 'best ' creed to follow . They are given this 'glossy veneer ' of lovely tradition & ritual , but it is unquestionably a subtle, insidious form of brainwashing that underpins war, conflict, snobbish hierarchies and social divide .

Boundaries and the protection there of have an important role and significance in my life. Both artificial and natural boundaries hold metaphysical, social, psychological relevence. Having died multiple times in my life I have found whether through superstition or some other unseen reason just the concept alone of " YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!" holds real sway over my life. I say its because of my belief that I'm one of the"half dead" a Shaydim if you would but I think it really is more the power of FAITH.
Didn't mean to sound weird or "SPOOOKY" just wanted to share. and to give small background I was one of the few to have survived relatively unscathed being born in the late 70s with enough drugs in my system for adults to have overdose problems. even being 2 months premature the doctors to their great credit managed to revive than detox me and I'm writing to you now. and thank you so much for you sharing with me and of course us all something so personal..
