This is exactly what I'm talking about when I make suggestions to other RUclips Mellotron M4000 video posts. This is the first time I have heard somebody add effects, reverb, and channel A & B mixing. I absolutely love my Mellotron M4000D. I jumped on the grenade and bought sound cards II, III, IV, V, & VI. Holy moly. What a gem of an instrument. I love effect amps and effect boxes, a sustain pedal, and a volume pedal. I've run my Mellotron through a "Metal Zone" guitar box just for grins..........totally cool. Great job Lisa. Outstanding.

I love the chromatic notes. Most keyboardists only play pads on the Mellotron. You demonstrate that it is a very versatile instrument

How about trying the MEL9 from EHX ?
MEL9 can't beat this, or anything else from the digital mellotron family, I won't even mention how it compares to the real thing. But for a guitar effect, it does the job.
It's always fun to explore new instruments, especially if you're already playing guitar, or bass and expanding to keyboard instruments!

I was not talking about the sounds of the MEL9, but the fact that it is NOT a keyboard instrument, well, can we really compare a digital effects pedal to another instrument? Kinda like, "hey man did you know that the violin sounds a bit like a drum when you hit it with the bow?"
i recommend the gforce software (i actually prefer it over the m4000d)

THIS IS the coolest video I have ever seen, magic is happening here. Lisa is a genius and did some of the coolest things I've ever heard done with a Mellotron. EVER! I'm a huge King Crimson and Moody Blues old school Mellotron lover. Lisa took the Mellotron built by Markus to another level. Pure AWESOME! No, pure FUCKING AWESOME!!!

You completely "get" the Mellotron in both its personae: a steampunk device and an orchestral instrument. I've just read your 2016 interview, and I think you're an incredible person. Fantastic performance! The keyboard looks very expensive though. I'm looking for a great Mellotron VST plugin. I'm leaning toward the GForce M-Tron right now. Years ago I had a good SoundFont Mellotron plug-in for my Creative sound card.

Well done Lisa. I am very impressed with your performance and great choice of musical colors in your composition! I have been wanting a Mellotron 400D for many years and I will be getting one finally in a few months. I assume you like the mini? I was going to get the weighted wooden key version , but I know they are like 1K more. They are pretty much the same axe , except for size and physical feel of the wooden 400D.

Now that I think about it, t would be cool if Chris Lowe of Pet Shop Boys purchased an M4000D for himself. What he did with the E-Mu Emulator II on cuts like “West End Girls” owes a debt to what began 20 years earlier with the Mellatron Mk II.

For the insane price i shouldn't have to buy external anything, certainly not for something as rudimentary as delay, chorus, reverb, etc., FX!
Over priced sampler is all this is. If you have a midi keyboard get a deeply sampled mellotron library or download the official mellotron au plugin. Its the same exact sound for pennies in the dollar. There are also plenty of mellotron libraries for several rack mount samplers. A more reasonable price would be under a grand.
there's so much more to it than that. All those sounds have been tailored with the electronics and signal of the instrument. It seriously does make a difference if you have the money. If not a midi keyboard and samples will do but.. This thing is on another level. And also takes away the headaches of layering and shit.

The original Mellotron was just samples of instruments, this is extremely high quality digital samples of the ORIGINAL tapes. So it basically ius.

These “Mellotron” type vids are 100% pointless whenever these musicians drench it with so many effects. The focus that they’re using a Mellotron just becomes indistinguishable from any other synth pushed through the same myriad of effects.
