Landour - A Love Affair With Winding Walks & Chocolate Pancakes | Chalte Hain Phir | Travel Podcast

- Chalte Hain Phir is a travel podcast series meant to uncover the secret gems and their stories. And its fitting that the pilot episode be about Landour - the place I fell in love with 4 years back.
Nestled among the Dehradun Himalayas, Landour is a small cantonment town (just 5 kms away from Mussoorie) thats's home to India's favourite author, Ruskin Bond. From pine forests to vintage cottages to cosy bakeries, Landour seems like an old colonial town lost in time. The winding roads, the fresh mountain air and the fact that Landour is in a no-new-construction zone, have made it possible to preserve its old world charm and character for so many decades.
And this travel podcast is a traveler's guide to know everything about Landour:
02:30 How to reach Landour
03:06 Places to visit in Landour and delicacies at Char Dukan
04:17 Best Time To Visit Landour
04:51 Where to stay in Landour - History of Rokeby Manor & La villa Bethany
06:33 Cozy cafes of Landour
07:04 Interesting stories hidden in the old bungalows, anglican churches and Landour language school
08:00 The unique phenomenon of Winterline - A natural occurrence that happens only in Mussoorie & Switzerland

Anybody who has been to landour, can totally correlate with your narration. Probably the best narration I ever heard
Landour is my favourite...❤❤🌹🌹...imagine driving through Landour's narrow yet those heavenly pathways. ..wow...walking is what makes it almost..."walking in paradise"
Cars must not be allowed inside Landour. Recently I was in this beautiful town and we heard of a fight over parking. Most of the people coming these days just come for posting pics of IG , not really absorbing the feel of the place.

Very true

What a heartfelt video..such complete information within 10 minutes.
Glad it was helpful!

"THE"BEST DOCUMENTARY
Wow! How well he has described
Thanks man. Very kind of you :)
I've grown up reading Ruskin Bond and have always wanted to be in Landour ever since I know this place. So when the first time I visited the place, it was such a surreal experience because everything that I read all my childhood came to life and it kind of teleported me to something different altogether.
I was in Massurie this October. But couldn't go to Landour. I have heard that famous children book writer Ruskin Bond lives here with his family. Your Lively narration has made an long-lasting imprint of Landour on my mind. Iam going there sooner than later.
Hope you get to visit soon 😊
I just hope that all you RUclipsrs..like you can put across the real beauty of India...for us Indians...who always think that evrything outside India is best...but khud kuch nahi karenge...Best wishes for you and all who are doing it...I hope every one of us can do our best

Don’t know how and why this video got recommended to me...never thought will watch it till the end but I did...in the age of wannabe vlogers...I can feel this video to be straight from the heart!...great info about the place 👍...and the part about driving is so true! Not everyone’s cuppa tea!! 😅 I have been to Ivy so I know!!
Thanks a bunch Tara. Indeed the drive can get a bit tricky especially through the narrow uphill lanes
Ur naration is mesmerizing along wit this beautiful nature scenery

Abhishek, kya bolta hai bhai tu !!! Bas sunte rehne ka man karta hai.
Wish you all the success with this beautiful channel.

Oh! Beautifully narrated, The more I watch it the better it looks like. It seems as if I were there, if one can make ppl feel as they are present in the same place. What can be better than that..
Looking forward to watching more videos
RUclips suggested me this and I immediately subscribed because of the narration skills!
Wow, thank you so much. Welcome aboard :)
Dear Abhishek:
I was bored working from home on some spreadsheets and lots of emails and so I took a short break of watching youtube and this video of yours came in front of me. Being a wanderer I allowed my curiosity and I compliment you on the ability to connect and engage with the viewers within first few seconds. The way you described the place, I was in Landour for the next 10 minutes.
I did subscribed to your channel and look forward to more such off-grid places. It takes pride to see that even our country has beautiful mountains and weather and one doesn't need to travel abroad.
Stay safe.
Best wishes from Mumbai.
Thats such a sweet heartfelt message Yagnesh. This is what keeps us going. We''l be coming up with lots more stories and destinations in the coming weeks.

So nice of you :)
Glad it could invoke the nostalgia
Amazing video. Just before this video I watched how that couple shifted to Landour from the hustle and bustle of the metro cities. It's quite amazing to listen to such people that follows their dreams against all odds. Also I have made up my mind that I will visit places like Landour whenever possible.
Keep bringing such beautiful stories and narratives to us..
Cheers 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ur channel is the best thing that happened to me in months.🥰 i accidentally found it. I live in australia but born and brought up in dehradun. The way u show my city is amazing. I kind of almost cried watching ur videos of uttrakhand.
At present i am going through a major “homesick” phase and every fibre of my being want to return back to dehradun but due to professional reasons i cant. Ur videos r fulfilling that void in a major way.
God bless u brother. Keep going back to my uttrakhand and keep posting ur experiences here. Atleast i can see it through u.
Love ur work
Such a lovely video. I was having a bad day and then suddenly I came across this video. It was so soothing. Was feeling like ye video Khatam hi na ho😊😊😊😊😊
Wow. To be able to make someone happy. This makes it all worth it 😊
i felt every bit of what you described ..Landour hai hi aisi jagah
I was in Mussouri / Landour / Dhanaulty / Dehradun for a week riding my rented scooty all around the mountain roads and man , I loved it .
Landour really had that serenity in it , That as you called it out - Art of doing Nothing feel attached to it .
I have this long bloody funny story I would just write anyway . My first day in mussorie we landed on main library chawk - quickly landed ourself in nearest hotel on mall road to rest and
seeing the rush on mall road , I actually lost my cool like what have I got myself into .
# The next day first thing I did , Packed my bag , rented a scooty and went to opposite direction of mussorie anywhere . Goal was to go 5 km away from this hustle bustle and think what to do next and Just after 1 km I was feeling okay and then 3-4 km after we reached this awesome mind blowing place - Landour . I was not expecting this .
Truly a memorable experience to this day and Best bakery I ever had to this day ( Landour bakerhouse ) . and seeing this video was just like putting words to those experiences .
How do you write such stuff is truly mind blowing to me . So again hats off ...
Haha. My first experience was somewhat similar :D
Actually i have this awesome Job which I really love a lot still I have started putting work onto my skills aside to become a digital nomad after 3-6 years . and seeing your work I just feel I can get some very valuable practical output from you . A more practical aspect and views towards this direction how you chose to do it . Can you help me ..?
If yes please drop me a msg on... .. If no totally fine .. 🙌
If yes
Beautiful landour.. My maasi's place.. Here I made the most beautiful memories with my sister
With that kind of narration, I am definitely visiting Landour this winters. Awesome channel👍
Thanka a ton Alok. Hope you get to visit soon :)
I was in Landour last March .I just fell in love with that place .
We went to the Bakehouse and had amazing cakes and pastries. I would love to go there again.
Such A Brilliant video... Fell in love with Landour ❤️ will surely visit Landour soon..
Keep Travelling .. love ur videos 👍
Thanks a ton
I've been to landour thrice in the past 2 years. This place is so homely. I love this video. I relate to every word in this video. I can't thank you enough. I feel so peaceful. My heart longs for landour :) and this video made me feel like home. You're doing an incredible job there.
Very kind of you. Glad you liked it 😊
Beautifully made video. Travel videos should be made like this. Appreciate your endeavour. ❤
Thanks a lot 😊
Your voice is healingly soothing...which makes the video more therapeutic....keep up the good work👍👍👍
That's very kind of you Sanika 😊🙏
What a beautiful narration and glimpse of this magnificent locale. Truly appreciate it. Possessing a penchant for travel myself - especially in the mountains - I keep searching for good concise travel videos that summarize the very basics of the place. After a long haul I came across one. You may also want to try a place known as Kasar Devi in Almora, not sure if you have been there, it is pretty.
Immersed in your audio and video, relaxed and easy going like a fairy tale....
Wow, thank you so much :)
Your narration is too good......while seeing the video I thought I was there and you also have a very good voice.......👍👍👍👍
Thanks a lot man. Really appreciate it 💛😊
I'm thankful to RUclips to give me this video In my suggestions 🙏😃
Happy to know you enjoyed it Ashutosh 😊

Thanx for the information 👍
Thanks a lot 😊
Your voice is so so calming ! As if my own ! The way you touched each aspect is reflects the truth about this heavenly place.
Thank you Promila :)
Wonderful to visit Landour with you again. Miss it. Have spent some wonderful days there as a youngster as my Dad was in the armed forces. It really is like stepping back in time. Nothing compares to the smell of pine trees.
I'm jealous 😊

❤️🙏😇🕊️🥰
I used to think Landour was my secret, untill I got trapped in midst of a lengthy traffic jam. Me and my cousins always used to walk to landour from mussoorie, thr cafes, the views of valleys and mountains are just splendid, it's something i'm too selfish to share but alas it's out now.
Walk? Is it at walkable distance?
Yes for mussoorie people it's very common we don't travel in vehicles there

So wonderful to see Landour again! Multiple times in my youth, lived just past Prakash's quaint Enid Blyton shop, at Kilmarnock - named for the place in Scotland where Johnny Walker whisky is made. Prakash also made the most amazing BlackBerry jam and apple chutney. Local bakers who had learnt how to make goodies from the British, used to come around with trunks full of cinnamon bread, almond drops, peppernints and sticky toffee. Thanks for the post, memories are lovely.
Hi.. I loved landour. Can we connect so that i can learn more about this place
Wow.. Uttarakhand.. My nag tibba nd kanatal trip nd stays at goat village were memorable. After watching this it seems we need to go back asap.. What a wonderful way to narrate.. Loved it..

Cafe Ivy. OMG. I have white friend in Austin TX named Ivy. When I told her that a cafe in landour is named after her, She was happy and surprised and wished to there next summer if no Corona.
This is the first time I'm watching your video , happened to just stumble over , but didn't want the video to get over, it was a great ,informative video.U are indeed a good travel guide. I totally agree with you that monsoons is one season which can be really enjoyed. I had one such experience when we landed in kodai hills in july and I was feeling sad , the driver who was taking us around told me this that the Monsoon is also a season to be relished and after that I really enjoyed the stay in those hills
Continue the good work
Oh yes. Kodai is gorgeous in monsoons

I am from Uttarakhand but your presentation made me feel as if it's a new destination for me👍
That really means a lot Manoj. Thank you so much :)
You caught the essence of Landour so well. Been there twice, simply love it. The cemetery is also quite amazing. But unfortunately young people come over sometimes in jeeps with loud music playing, such a shocker in such serene surroundings! Btw, which is that red roofed house you showed?
So refreshing 😍
Last year I went there with my friends and really such a beautiful place. I have never visited a place like Landour.. peace and silence and yes accommodation is expensive, but not that much 2000/day
Peace and serenity with all the material comforts :)
Lovely narration. Extremely informative.
