    Its so satisfying hearing the engine get throaty being able to breathe more air. It never gets old. But we do need to take care of our own bodies and stop polluting the air as we can keep breathing deep throaty breathes. Not like darth vader but you know what I mean. Most of you anyways.

      I know right! It sounds awesome!

  • @Dilip122S
    @Dilip122S 6 лет назад +10

    Great mod! I'll be doing something similar myself. Predictably, people are bashing it of course, to which I would say: it may add or lose 1% or 2 % or 3% of power at various points in the rev range. So what? You will never, ever feel a 1%, 2%or 3% difference in performance while you're driving.
    Miata's are all about how they feel to drive, NOT ultimate performance- and that feel-factor was one of Mazda's key design priorities. Sound is a huge factor in that. If your Miata sounds nice, it will feel better to drive.
    Mine has felt way better, and is far more fun to drive, since I fitted an aftermarket exhaust system. Is it any faster? I doubt it. Does it sound nicer? Hell yeah! Any performance gains or losses from a filter arrangement like this will be so negligible as to be imperceptible, but it will transform the way the car FEELS to drive, and that's what Miatas are all about.
    As for cold air/ hot air...it's as far away from the hot exhaust as it can get, and without detailed studies of airflow under Miata bonnets, that's good enough. The stock box draws air from a tiny gap between the bonnet and fender, this draws it from the gap between the headlamp, fender and bonnet, from the front of the car, from the airflow through the bay etc etc. If someone's ever analysed the airflow in all those areas, I've never seen the studies. Anyway, TSI's and/ or a vented headlamp cover will definitely improve things, as you say.
    Will ANY of it make you feel any difference in performance, or result in anything more than infinitesimal gains or losses of power?
    Of course not! :-)
    Great channel, man, great mods and I'm thoroughly enjoying what you do to your Mazda. You have already inspired me to go LED with my interior lights and number-plate lights, so keep up the good work, and please keep the mods and videos coming!

    • @MiataMods
      @MiataMods  7 лет назад +2

      I did some research and the problem is that international shipping alone would cost me about $30 because of the size and weight.. So it was a nice idea, but with the added building costs I would never brake even, let alone make a profit. So I guess you have to build one on your own guys :-)

    Turning ur MAF sensor on its side will not effect performance however it will cause you to fail your emissions test. at idle the car will suck in to much air because gravity will cause the flap to be not accurate. When you are in RPM's it is fine but i failed my E Test at idle because of this and turned it back to being flat and passed no problems.

    • @MiataMods
      @MiataMods  6 лет назад +1

      That's seems a bit weird. When I had my AFM removed I held it in the position it's mounted in right now and you can clearly see that the flap stays closed.. maybe it's different when the engine is running? Thanks for sharing your point of view though.. I have not had a emissions test in the past two years so I haven't run into any problems.. yet I guess haha

    • @ToxiicFlamez
      @ToxiicFlamez 6 лет назад

      MiataMods yeah I had the same results, when it was sideways it looked as if the flap was closed it must be different when the car is idleing. Thanks for the reply. Cheers mate

    • @jfaircamdrone6953
      @jfaircamdrone6953 5 лет назад

      Of course is diferent as in a N/a engine the presure in the system is negative and only gets close to atmospheric pressure once you are at WOT situation. The gate has a mass, the gate has a spring and the MAF has a way of being installed, not rotated, not upside down. It has being carefully designed to get the best performance with the goal of passing the requested emisions levels for the age of the car.
      If you like the sound ok, but please analyze your intake temperatures before saying you have gain something.

    • @SurrealEnt
      @SurrealEnt 5 лет назад

      I did the same thing happen. I did not get this shield plate he made I just simply set my MAF sideways as I bought the adapter plate only. Well at first it was one but after about 10 min driving as things started to move around the car was not holding idle properly. It was sometimes good and sometimes above 1k rpm at idle which sucked. The IAK was trying to correct it but was having a hard time getting the idle right. I then tried adjusting the idle screw to fix this but nothing worked. I even thought my IAC was bad so I swapped it and nothing worked. So then I said well let’s put it back the orientation it should be because maybe the flap was not doing what it should be. What do you know soon as I turned it the correct orientation the car ran like charm without issues. It idles at 800rpm without a problem. So turning the MAF on it’s side does NOT work properly maybe for this guy it did but for majority of people it will not. I suggest you guys redue the design so the maf is the correct orientation so people won’t have issues like this.

    Your buddy who told you not to rotate the mass airflow sensor was thinking of the old mass air meters like on the Toyota’s..... they had a mechanical flapper door inside with a potentiometer mounted on the end... those need to be mounted right side up. Your Miata has a fully electronic airflow meter

    Hi miatamods!! I like this cool mod!! Sounds great and I'll do the same to my '90 na, the only doubt I have is how can this affect to the AFM in vertical position, don't you think the bearings of the fan could be damaged?? How long are u using it?? Any problems??
    Thanks

    • @MiataMods
      @MiataMods  6 лет назад

      Hey man, thanks for the compliment! The AFM does not have a fan or bearings in it. It only has a flap inside that opens and closes and the AFM measures the position of this flap to calculate the airflow. I guess you could say that gravity can have a small effect on this system but I I haven't had any problems so I guess it's fine.

  • @B074043
    @B074043 6 лет назад +1

    You shouldn't name it "cold" because it still gets hot air from the engine bay. The only reason for doing this is increased airflow thanks to the airfilter and beautiful noise above 3krpm.

    • @MiataMods
      @MiataMods  6 лет назад

      I get what you are saying, but I'm planning to swap the headlight cover with one that has an intake so the pod filter will receive cold air directly from the outside. My other option is installing Turn Signal Intakes and make a duct that guides the air to the pod filter. If you do one of these two things it will be a proper cold air intake, don't you agree?

  • @SeshKing
    @SeshKing 3 года назад

    Intakes such as this sadly don’t make your car any faster. If anything you loose a minimal amount of power. However when your car is tuned for all the extra air your sucking in, then yes, you can gain power. If you don’t have an aftermarket ecu with tuning capabilities, there really is no point in doing this other than the noise. Loved the video though!

      Hey Joseph, I don’t think it’s possible to make a air intake like this with a strut brace installed.. your best option is to sell the strut brace so you have enough room to build your own intake 😉

  • @adm2513
    @adm2513 7 лет назад +1

    That isn't a cold are intake. it's just a air filter. having a box and direct air inlet is a cold air intake, having no box is just letting in hot air, which is slowing you down but sounds better at the same time..

    • @MiataMods
      @MiataMods  7 лет назад

      I think the intake air temp will be roughly the same compared to the factory airbox, maybe even a bit lower (better) because it's further away from the engine, there's a heat shield and it's getting relatively cold air from the front of the engine bay. This setup is also less restrictive so is it slowing me down? I don't think so. If you have the Jass Performance turn signal indicators the filter will have a direct airflow so in my opinion it's a cold air intake. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the video
