    I just purchased one at Lowes on closeout. The tool guy told me they were dropping the Porter Cable line. This one is so much better than my old Craftsman.

      I just had a plastic fin break off. It's connected to the motor shaft so it ran out of balance. Fortunately it has a 3 year warranty so I brought it in to a place for warranty repair. Still waiting to get it back.

    I have a Skil bench sander I've been using since 1990. Still going strong and I use it every day.

    This appears to be almost exactly the same sander as the Bucktool BD4801. These are direct drive sanders which have a lot more power than comparable 4 amp belt drive motors.

    I got the Wen and while it is made in China it was all I could afford but I was very pleasantly surprised. Have had it for about two years now and use it almost everyday. It is a workhorse and has zero problems.

      Other than the larger motor housing...everything else looks exactly like the WIN. Same exact moving parts to change out the 4 by 36 and same exact mechanism to adjust the paper. Carbon copy. Even makes the exact same sound.

      I considering the Wen model as well. In fact, it looks identical as one sold at Harbor Freight, Grizzly Industrial, and Menards. Same model. Different colors. About the same price point. Menards has their version for $99 this week.

    Score! Just bought one at Goodwill for under $20. Only missing the dust collection bag. No problem since I have a vacuum hose connected instead of a bag.

    Bought one today at Lowes. I think I have a refurbished model. Some paint rub where the plate adjusters meet the frame and a couple eraser sized paint chips on the front. It's a tool, but I'd like to chip my own paint. Hopefully I have no issues with it. It's much better than the 20 year old Delta I just sent to the dumpster. Sounded like your old one and the switch went on it a while ago to "always on" lol. BTW, the feet fit perfect in the ribs of a gen 3 Tacoma tailgate. I'm currently using it to clean the ends of cut plastic paver edges that I'm cutting to length. Nice to be able to do the work right on site. It draws more amps than what the truck bed outlet can provide though.

    I have the Wen 4x36 with 6in disk and like it but feel like it could be a little more powerfu
    So i bought the porter cable one in this video and was planning to return the Wen once i could confirm its better.
    The porter cable is alot heavier which maybe a good thing if your not miving it around, and is double the money of the Wen. I found no significant difference in power. The porter cable is no better except it has a 8in disc instead of 6in.
    I'm returning the porter cable unfortunately. I don't see any reason to pay more than double the money for something that is the same..
    To me the 8in disk isn't worth paying way more

    That is a great looking belt/disk sander and I'm sure you'll enjoy. I have both an oscillating belt sander and one rather like your old sander. Both provide useful service in their own way. Take care and sand on.

    I’d say that’s a good sander, porter cable makes good larger equipment. Back in the year 2000 I bought a Jet tablesaw, jet makes really good equipment it was 500 back then I think they’re 1000 now, over 2000 for a jet sander is a bit much lol but you have you a good piece of equipment.

    That's certainly a good looking tool. I'll be in the market for a combination sander soon as mine is making a lot clunky noises too, but I'm fairly sure Porter Cable don't sell on this side of the Pond. Oh well...

    That dust collection bag looks a bit inconveniently placed. Does it interfere at all with the belt sanding?

    • @AlleyPicked
      @AlleyPicked  2 года назад

      You have to keep it a little away from the wall but it doesn't interfere. The disc sander does spin up a bit more dust than the belt. I think thats because it's further away.

    • @M0J0HAND
      @M0J0HAND 2 года назад +1

      @@AlleyPicked My concern is, at the 5:00 mark you're sanding with the belt sander down and the dust collection bag fully inflated. It appears that the dust bag is VERY close to the sanding belt and might be forced up against the belt unless you keep an uncomfortable distance from the machine to keep from ripping the dust bag. I looked at the Ryobi bench top sander and all off it's clones, but I am leaning towards buying the Porter-Cable. Have you considered placing some hose or tubing between the sander and the dust bag to give yourself some breathing room?
