Losing a precious animal is heartbreaking, for he was more than just a dog. He was a loyal partner, a devoted protector, and a true hero. Now, Heaven has gained an angel that will forever be missed and cherished.
This is how dogs communicate. For everything. I've rescued dogs my whole life. Sadness, joy, and fear. Dogs' barks can also tell you what they are trying to communicate. Where I live, the dog at rhe entrance to our road will bark for delivery drivers, the mailman, people taking a stroll. That has one specific pitch. If that dog feels or sensed a threat, that bark gets very loud and deep and she sounds the alarm to the rest of our dogs. These dogs' barks were high pitched and screechy. That is distress. I can't say if they were actually sad, but dogs will pick up their human's emotions and energy. I hope this helps ❤@@airadaimagery692
My heart goes out to the handler and the department for their loss. I lost my service dog of 13 year in October 2023, and still feel the pain and emptiness. I still call her name when I'm sitting in my game room, but then that she is not coming but will always be by my side. Our K-9's are more than pets. Some will never understand the bond that man and animal can form. My Leo rest in peace knowing that he was loved as only you could love him. Thank you both for your service.

I still remember Oagy the police dog and his handler was killed in line of duty a few years back, I cried all day, the officer was buried with his dog. This was in florida too.
