- Game 7 of the 1991 World Series needs little intro, but here goes: Jack Morris throws 10 scoreless innings, Gene Larkin knocks in the series winning run in the bottom of the 10th, Twins win the World Series.
This video syncs the Twins radio network call, featuring the legendary duo of Herb Carneal and John Gordon, over the original CBS telecast.
This is awesome, because when I watched this game it was in my college dorm room, and I had the TV turned down, and the AM radio cranked.
Yes. I remember watching this as a kid...we kept the TV volume turned off and the radio turned on because we found it much preferable to listen to Herb than to Jack Buck (ugh!) and Tim McCarver (worse!)
The one and only Herb Carneal. What a wonderful voice from a great broadcaster.
God I miss John and Herb calling Twins games!
I miss hearing John say “touch em’ all” and “swiiiiiing and a miss!”
Herb’s calling was so soothing. So glad that I got to hear him the last few years he did games.
I was in the stands, left field. Gene Larkin's hit looked like it was coming right at me. I went with my step-father who is no longer with us, but whenever I think of this game, I think of him, and how loud we yelled and the hug we shared when they won.
Greatest game ever played.
I own the official DVD collection of the 1991 series and it also has the Twins radio audio track included. Quite a blast from the past. Hard to believe it's been almost three decades. Still feels like it happened yesterday.
Tasermaxx I would have loved to have heard the Braves radio team's broadcast as well. They had Skip Caray who was one of the most enthusiastic "homers" of any broadcaster in the game. Would have been very fun to hear how he called a lot of these moments as well.
Herb Carneal had a voice a that was as smooth as a gravy sandwich.
I miss Herb Crneal
I miss John Gordon too. For Twins radio baseball he's second only to Herb.
Joshua Swanson they complemented each other well, Gordon being excited and animated and Carneal more chill and laid back.
11:01 is where audio begins
1:56:51 the Lonnie Smith base running mistake was everything for these Twins. Amazing play to trick him like that.
"[Baseball] breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops." - A. Bartlett Giamatti, "Green Fields of the Mind"
This was awesome and who knows there could be a rematch in 2023
This is Minnesota's last professional big 4 sports championship.
Minneapolis Lakers titles 1949, 1950, 1952, 1953, 1954
Minnesota Vikings 1969 NFL Championship
Minnesota Twins 1987, 1991
They are due for one. Vikes Should of had 2009 but that was the Hurricane Katrina biased game. NFL looked the other way to bountygate because they felt bad for New Orleans
2:03:06. Bream and his bad knee was literally the ONLY runner who they could possibly have doubled up on that grounder. I think that's the only 3-2-3 double play I've ever seen.
They are certainly rare - there's only 3 clips on RUclips of them (after the Twins in 1991, I can only find the Red Sox in 2015 and the Tigers in 2017).
(The unassisted double play Lemke got in the bottom of the 8th is ALSO a huge rarity)

Scott Conner classic good-field no-hit guy. Though oddly enough in this series he actually didn't have too bad a series with the bat either.
