I think that's the wrong link for the discussion video. It's the same link as this video.
@@pcj27 Thanks, fixed.
Serebryakov is the best. You see her dig a hole, you don't ask questions. You try to dig a hole faster than her.
Yeah I think the rest of the guys started to follow her after that opening sequence.
I love later episodes, when they talk about her as some sort of monster in her own right.....
The reason behind the Brass accepting her methods that was designed to be unfair was because of this excuse right here. "If they cannot detect this projection, the same the enemy uses for decoys, then they are not fit to be called mages and thus can not become part of my battalion" Their answer was this episode lol. "decide the training yourself and make the soldiers you wanted"
At this time CPR wasn't known so the troops are afraid that even death is no escape from Tanya, she'll just drag them back. A capital consisting of wooden buildings and you build an ammo factory in the middle of it? Big fireworks display waiting for a stray spark much less a barrage of explosion spells.
so, as it turns out the anime cut the full training. aperantlly in the LN she subjected them to psychological turture as well.
@@falsnamae3511 tania cant help but sabotage herself, she's just too good at the whole "murder" thing to deliberatlly fail
Dakia is i think Romania. In the times of Roman Empire, they call the region to be Dacia thus i think Dakia=Dacia.
Yep it is
I enjoy trying to figure out which places are what during this show lol. Especially since everyone speaks Japanese.
No need for "I think". It very obviously is.
At the Avalanche, they thought that even death wouldn't save them from her. She could bring them back, and make them fight on....
A little detail that was changed in the anime was that after the avalanche, Tanya took Visha out of the snow on a princess carry, however because of how confused she was Visha thought that she was saved by an angel.
By an angel? Hahaha
@@BrothersYeoa biblically accurate one perhaps.
"Be not afraid."
Tanya basically Invented the Heimlich Maneuver way early, since this is 1924 the Man who made the method wasn't introduced and was 4 years old or dead
heads-up, the "Instructor!" at the beginning of the speech is a mistranslation, its meant to say "I swear", as in "the following is an oath"
she is saying 宣誓 (Sensei) and not 先生 (Sensei),
for some reason i got downvoted when i commented this on another reaction channel wich is like...huh? crunchy fans i guess, and crunchy doesn't give a fuck about translation only "localisation", seeing as they didn't fix it after the initial airing of this episode, when people pointed out the mistake
the warning Tanya did at the end, thats actually her real voice. the voice we normally hear is her faking it, making her voice a lower tone than normal. we heard her normal voice twice now, this and when she was dressed up like doll after she got awarded with the medal
Oh, never would've known.
um no, it's always her real voice. she just talks the way she talks because it's her personality... the kid voice is just her acting like a kid...
@@Vary180 lol no. this show is out for years and this already been discussed. the loli voice is her real voice. i dont know if uve noticed, Tanya is still a CHILD
*spoiler*
she also used the same voice at the end credits of episode 9 while writing a letter
@@sirmeowmeow7319 are you good? the voice is ALWAYS a loli voice, making it sound more firm and serious doesn't change that fact. there's also tons of internal dialogue that doesn't sound like the one you mention, that one is like that because she's imagining an innocent child writing a letter. how can you not realize this? also "this has already been discussed" doesn't mean people know what they are saying.
if anything, her voice that reflects her personality is more "real", while acting like a child for a video/letter/announcement is her being "fake". both voices are real though, but it's a question of putting on an act or not, and the child like voice is the one which is an act, that's why it would be considered "fake".
WW1 was a war where old fighting styles clashed with new. Horses v tanks. Dakia is an example of a country trying to fight old school.
After Tanya's plan to delay recruitment failed, she switched to a different plan which was to make the training so hard and unbearable that the recruits would end up quitting. However it backfired on her because they got more scared of what she would do to them had they quit. In other words, they figured that quitting the training would be worst than actually going through it.
Hello!
Not much going on in this one either other than the training and a confirmation/realization about her mental state declining by the usage of her new computation jewel, very brief mention once again. The avalanche was a good way to show her recruits that death isn't a way out. Imagine our own first world war and its medicinal technology and basically apply it there as well. Chest compressions and medical care is not even a thought, so when Tanya kicked the snow out of his lungs the rest of the battalion basically saw that as her literally resurrecting him back from the dead.
The battle of Dakia, I believe it's Romania on our end, was anything but that - a literal live fire exercise from Strategic HQ to ease her battalion into combat and to see for themselves how effective their unit would be to respond to such an event happening. Tanya took it a little further and made sure that their capital, and thus their leadership, understood the futility of their actions by gutting their military hardware production and removing them from the war outright, or at least leaving a lasting impact they won't recover from fast enough.
Tanya lowers her voice so that people around her take her more seriously and you've heard her actual voice once before, which was during the photoshoot when she got her White Silver medal and second name, and now here. She *really* dislikes her own voice.
And I forgot the mention it in the last episode but the story about her parents is actually true. Her father was a soldier, dead now I believe, and her mother did abandon her at the war orphanage. It wasn't anything malicious either for the mother *knew* she couldn't take care of her child and gave it to an institution that, essentially, specializes in child care, even if they suffered from food shortage and most of the children, if not all of then, are suffering from malnutrition.
Keep up the good work.
so, since you were looking at the map, Dakia is Romania, more specifically Greater Romania as it looked between the two world wars
They washed down the training to make it viewable...She had them even trained to resist torture and torture...She basically created a unit, that would even kill themselfes if ordered...To do that, she took all special units trainings from our world and put them through all this in one month...And her real objective was to make them drop out...
ah yes the technically
"not a war crime"
-tanya
Dang I was a day late. Anyways I only realized after my first time reading the manga that Tanya's initial test was a massive tactic their batallion utilizes. They always fights with decoys, thus, reduces their casualties a lot. Just consider how many mages seen through her decoy (tbf mages on the battlefield would be more wary of them).
Also, I'd argue Tanya's training was slightly downplayed here. She utilized all sorts of modern special ops training. That definitely includes Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) training which includes resisting torture. Their trainings are so harsh that they were then considered elite of the elite and others even wonders how they're still alive.
Just a food for thought, think about Tanya's "no magic order". She said she'd fire magic of her own if she detects any magic signature. Thus, her mage batallion could function without using magic and infiltrate us such.
Also, their favorite "weapon" (tool) is a shovel. You could dig with it or bash someone's skull with it.
Also Dakia is basically Austria--Hungary during WW1, they started with Napolean War Esque Strategy but then learned the realities of how ineffective those tactics are in a ww1 setting
First, Dakia is Romania, not Austria-Hungary which had a fairly modern army. Second, Dakia is actually a caricature of Romania since Romanian army in 1914, however pitiful, was way ahead of Dakian in 1924.
in the manga, when tanya says "imperial soldiers die, but the empires live forever" is exactly what they are, when people died in that conscription training of tanya new mages fill up that rank...there are 48 men in that battalion, the only time you can join tanya's ranks is when someone die...48 men/woman nothing more nothing less
Nobody died in Tanya's training.
@@Eleyvie what i mean is that soldier training, when someone died in the battle it gets replaced by another one,the training tanya implemented is still on going,in the battle theres someone died and it gets replaced...
@@Eleyvie for example...
if someone on her battalion died in arene battle shell just get another one on the training,no one died on the main side characters but some of the other 48 died or lose a limb or unable to battle and gets replaced by some soldiers on the said training/or exceptional soldiers on the other front...you can read the manga...
The graduation speech Tanya gave is almost a direct copy of the speech in Full Metal Jacket.
@@johnwaitchison That's not surprising, considering that's where Tanya ripped it from according to the novels. 🙂
This episode is very much enjoyable for my eyes and ears
Idk if it's because I'm first generation American from Germany or the animation quality but dammit I love this anime hahaha
In case it hasn't been answered already, Dakia is that world's version of Romania.
Btw boobytrapping a corpse is 100% definitely a war crime
8:14 Probably wouldn't be Turkey (Ottoman Empire back then), as they were on Germany's side in WWI. Romania was the country on Austria-Hungary's south east border, so they're probably Romania.
Tamaya!!!!!
We are starting to see the complexity of Tanya. She is a rationalist who despises emotional, irrational people. She just wants a safe, comfortable life. She has no empathy for other people and just uses them for her own ends. If it's better for her to look like a compassionate leader who cares for her troops, that's what she'll pretend to be.
What she doesn't realize about herself is that she not only enjoys combat, she loves defeating anyone standing against her. She loves humiliating the unworthy, showing them that she's better than they are, punishing them for not living up to her expectations.
She thinks she's the pinnacle of intelligent rational thinking, manipulating people around her to achieve her goals, but in the end she's her own worst enemy. She keeps making the war situation worse instead of leading to the victory that is her rational goal, because she's so vindictive.
remember she does nothing wrong, she follows the rules
This is one the parts that underwent major changes in the anime.
Originally the soldiers were forbidden from taking cover.
Tanja declared that artillery had too many training shells left and that the mages would have to endure shooting the incoming shells down for hours.
She also added that some life rounds might have gotten mixed up in the ammo crates so the soldiers wouldn't get lenient in countering the shell.
Later one they also did interrogation and torture endurance training, which ended with Visha claiming that now she couldn't marry anymore after what was done to her.
Tanja basically made them undergo some waffen ss spetznaz training.
Actually, both anime and manga versions are partially correct. They're hiding in the foxholes in the anime, and they're shooting down incoming shells in the manga, but in the original light novels, they did both. Tanya gave them 15 minutes to dig the foxholes, and then they had either to cover themselves with mage shells or identify and shoot down the real artillery shells from among the incoming duds.
@@Eleyvie Didn't digging fail you automatically, not really a skill an air special forces would need
@@seynoonrae2474 Not sure where you got that idea from. Tanya was always a proponent of melding her forces among regular infantry as much as possible, which included heavily training her men in all the infantry skills. Active magic is easily detectable in YS universe, and Tanya was always trying to keep zero-emissions whenever she could, and trained her men the same. Many of her operations in the books include stages with no active magic or at least reduced emissions, for the sake of achieving surprise, misdirecting the enemy or getting away from enemy detection.
P. S. Also don't forget, we're speaking about "The shovel is truly an implement born of civilization" Tanya.
@@Eleyvie Simple, if I have to choose between a guy who doesn't move and only hides and cowers away or a guy who is able to work with his teammates for 36h (1 1/2 day) shows high levels of cooperation and the physical and mental skill to track and shoot down artillery shells and make spot on decisions, create a rotation with them of reloading and firing while also not have multiple people waste shots and ammunition firing at the same target yet still capable to make the shot when another team mate misses I know whom I would choose.
By the way, ever used a shovel it is not that hard, the only thing you really need to know when using one is to wear the right footwear.
Everything else comes by itself, if not I suggest a change of occupation.
Coming from a guy who helped a friend (actually a soldier) dig out a trench of several cubic meters in the worst soil in his yard.
@@seynoonrae2474 Well, that might've been your logic, but that obviously wasn't Tanya's logic. She was never a "we'll triumph through superior magical skills" but rather a "we'll use every trick we can think of to stay alive and succeed" kind of girl. Except in manga, which is coincidentally why I don't like YS manga. 🙂
romania
you remembered Turkey :) many dont. I hope Turkey wont be involved in this war and just chill.
