Yes, the sunroof drains causes some major issues, I've seen the rear electronics cubby fill with water in relatively minor downpours after they're blocked. The rear BCM located there which has permanent power because it controls functions like locking and immobiliser will often be cooked by this water ingress. This can be a really expensive fix at a dealer, or a less eye-wateringly expensive fix at an independent workshop. I replace these rear BCMs on all MLB EVO platform SUV bodied vehicles(Q5, Q7 and variants). Now you mentioned Component Protection and it's attached costs at a dealer Adam. You do not need to go to a dealer, you need to find an independent repairer who has gone through the process to become an approved repairer by VAG which gives them access the same as a dealer to unlock and program CP related parts. I'm such an independent repairer who has jumped through those hoops and replace modules in these vehicles every so often when they come across my bench. Everything can be replaced with second hand or refurbished except the primary immobiliser module on anything WFS4 onwards(approx 2006) Primary immo module is commonly cluster in VW platform vehicles including A1/A3/Q2/Q3 from Audi, above that it's the rear BCM primarily, or the front BCM in Porsche models. Diesel engines typically have a 40% efficiency rate vs 20% for petrol engines. That's part of why big commercial vehicles all use diesel engines, and If you think they get a horrible fuel economy with diesel, you can imagine how bad it'd be with petrol. Over in Europe, you could get diesel Honda civics(don't know if you still can) that used less than 4L/100Kms. They're slow as a glacier but for commuting, can't beat that.

The increasing negativity is really starting to bother me. Appreciate there are things that go wrong here, but this channel is more and more about making Toyota drivers feel good about themselves. Everyone knows depreciation is base on % of original price not on dollars so obviously depreciation is higher on premium cars.... Also while don't buy 15 year old Germans, I have 2 used vw group vehicles that I love to drive, both have reasonably priced dealer extended warranties so I am completely worry free and really happy. Maybe focus on those types of advice.
The reality is many late model complex engineering European cars can be a absolute financial disaster for many, some cars fine, but many not. Not negativity as such, just reality of what can happen...
The mistake is thinking that any of our opinions follow a particular brand or country of origin. Truth be told, we couldn’t care less what badge is attached to the front of the car. We’re drawn to cars that provide people with a sense of quality and value for money, given how much people spend. We’re more interested in the objective reality that owners experience when owning a car, which we ascertain by actually speaking to them. Will everyone’s experience be identical? Of course not, many people have a great experience. Which is exactly what we say in the video.
This is not his first hate video - I guess its good clickbait for uninitiated. A quick research will show most brands present the same issues(little issues). What's not objective here is, to show the other side of the coin. You cannot find a cheap alternative(not sure what world he's living in) with this quality interior and powertrain. I don't need to get into details, because he IS NOT a car guy. But coming from reading hundreds of hours of posts on forums, you'll find that these are not issues particular to sq7. These are isolated issues he's putting together for a quick views gathering video(asking Jim the professional to chime in... really?). My advise - if you can afford it, buy it, do your maintenance, this car will last you a long time. Don't buy into videos like this made to grab a quick buck. There are plenty of forums with good info/recommendations... This is not where you want to get research done
Surely the title of ‘hate video’ is a bit much. Given the fact we list many of the great parts about the car. In any case, we don’t claim to be the oracle of used car advice in the internet, we encourage people to seek as much info as they can about a particular car, even more so if they’re dropping SQ7 money on a car. As for the validity of the info, this isn’t just a few isolated case thrown together, we trawl owners groups, forums, talk to specialist mechanics and even service technicians who have first hand experience with what can go wrong with them. Of course, our research is not without its limitations. We can’t speak to every single owner. We understand there’s a wide range of experiences and nuance to all of them. Plus, if we were motivated by clickbait and quick views we’d have chosen a way easier topic to deal with than used cars.
@@ReDriven Surely you make it sound like this constitutes the majority, I think you are a bit limited in "research, forums, owners and specialists"... If you had that covered, the specialists would tell you hondas toyotas nissans and others, copy this technology as fast as they can... They increase the price also(it costs more). AND overall reliability of all brands can take a hit, considering how new and complex this technology is... Surely they must've missed that aspect
