- During the weekend of September 24-26, I got up to CN's Iron Range along the Missabe, and some other action on the Superior and Rainy Subs. Unfortunately no original painted leaders but there was a good heavy flow of train traffic to make up for it. The weekend went by fast but it was certainly one to remember in this video.

Excellent video!
CN pretty much shut down its operations in Thunder Bay, but they sure went hog-wild in Duluth/Superior! When I lived in Duluth I didn't live too far from where much of your footage was shot. Coming and going to town I got to see almost a constant flow of oil trains, container trains, taconite trains - including those being pushed up the hill - mixed freight trains, etc. It's no wonder that they had to double track that section. The project was ongoing when I first moved there in 2015 and completed not too long after.
0:34 Meanwhile, as a lone CN Intermodal passes by the trestle, the coal train we were looking for passes by. And at 5:58, a CN car horn manifest passes by.
That high pitched p5 on CN 5416! 😳
Fouled old cast P5
Great catches and video!
your video is so good wish you success
Yards ago when CN was getting slag from Sudbury They would run trains down to the Paris Jct to unload it when they were laying down new ballast Running the empties back boy talk about the slack
Awesome stuff! How many trains does CN run up there?
Great video. Liked the shots with the tunnel motors.
Could you help me out or put me in touch with someone who knows about modern DMIR operations? Im heading up in May and I wanted to catch the BLE tunnel motors. Could you give me some info on what trains they get assigned to and where/when they go on duty? I assume proctor yard on the ore drags but given its a 14 hour drive I dont want to make any assumptions. Also is there a good facebook group or something for tracking movements?
Tunnel motor pacing FTW! I wonder why all that water vapor pours off the taconite trains, like in the beginning of the video?
I believe it’s because the fresh hot pellets and the cooler air
Condensation from the hotter processed taconite balls from the mill as they ride through much cooler air along the ROW
CN wouldn’t know iron ore if they were buried in it. All that money to buy six miles of track.
CN's Iron Range? Don't think so.
