I didn't think there was ANY WAY I was going to watch all 35 minutes of this. But when you watch an artist work AND explain it? It was worth EVERY minute of it!
Cool lol thank you glad you liked it
there are 1000 of videos about how to lay carpet on stairs, after seen yours, i dont't need to watch rest of 999.. thank you!
Thank you, glad it was helpful
Same 😊👍🏼
Love how detailed and explanatory your training was. Now I literally have 0 fears going into this job. Tysm for taking the time to teach us your skill
Thank you, it is really encouraging to see comments like this
In 16 years I've never come across a job where the steps didn't have 10,000 staples. Awesome video!
Thank you, and you’re right most of the time they are loaded up with Staples
This is a man that takes extreme pride in his work, look at that finished install!
Mostly every re stretch job I do, the stairs have wrinkles smack dab in the middle of the steps.
It's the little things installers miss that over time make the entire job suck.
Excellent job again and great video, keep them coming once your wrist fully recovers!
And I see those floating steps in the back, can't wait for that video!
😂Thank you Nick, sorry it took so long to get to this just started browsing through the comments
@@FloorsbySouthernboys I don't understand why you cut the piece out going side ways on the carpet. Most stairs are to long to go that way??? TIA, and great video!
@@usgamechamp1091 ??Not sure what you mean
@@FloorsbySouthernboys you cut the carpet down the 12 ft side, instead of down the length of the roll!
@@usgamechamp1091 I haven’t watch the video in forever but I’m sure I have the nap of the carpet laying down
Thank you for the extreme detail on not only the hows, but more importantly the whys. After watching your videos I feel like I’ve been laying carpet for 20 years and I’m a typical diy schlub doing his own carpet. Tremendous value here, knowledge is power and you deliver it in spades!
Thank you sir
You can really tell you're experience. I love the little tips that would easily have been over looked or missed. You make it look easy. Thank you for the great video.
Thank you sir
Amazing tip that stood out to me in this video was putting the extra layer of duct tape down on the step edge as it has the most traffic. Anyone who knows the industry will recognise this as gold. Most fitters don't even bother with this, but it's such a good idea to do!! I spent years as a flooring salesman, then eventually moved up to Managing the flooring store and also employing various fitters and now (since it went bust due to the pandemic), started fitting carpets myself, as the store had to close but I knew I could go independent to still make separate income. I don't know if it's just the UK, but in my experience most fitters aren't that particular or pay that much attention to longevity of stair carpet. Listen to this guy people, he knows his stuff 100000000000% 😊 I wish fitters I've worked with in the past cared this much about customers. Again, maybe it's just my own subjective experience, but I don't know any Fitter this considerate in their methods. I know no one at all who spend the seconds it takes to add extra steps like that to boost life of the carpet by potentially years. Respect mate.
Thank you sir, I really appreciate you taking the time to post that kind message, terribly sorry about your store closing hopefully you will enjoy fitting again
This is a great instructional video! At first, I mistakenly felt it was too slow, and I didn’t expect to watch THE WHOLE THING, so I skipped around in the video. But like others, once I started paying attention to how this fellow is so knowledgeable and obviously experienced, I had to go back and watch every second of it video . This really nice guy is so openly generous and sharing of his knowledge and tips. He’s not a prima donna, and he’s not holding back anything; he’s doing everything he can do to share what he knows of the what, how, and why of each step in this task. Well done!
thank you very much
Perfect instructions! Next week I'm gonna install stair carpet. Your demonstration is really inspiring me. I appreciate your enthusiasm and skills.
Awesome Good luck my friend I hope they turn out well for you
Ive been looking at a lot of videos carpeting stairs, Ive got more from this than the rest combined.. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, putting tape on the edges makes a lot of sense and a lot of your other tips.. great video ! Hope that pain has healed and eased.. thanks again
Thank you
Awesome way to do it thats the way i was taught in the mid 80's as a helper and even today thats the way i like everyone who works for me to do it 👍👍
flooring 😀👍
You really are, very skilled at what you do Reuben.. I appreciate your integrity and ethics. 14 years in the trade and I’ve never seen someone use their thigh/hip area to “kick” on a stair like that. That was extremely slick. Can’t wait to give that a shot!
Thank you
Excellent job.
And thanks for all the effort on our behalf in spite of the pain.
God bless Reuben.
Thank you sir
I've been in the floor trade you a day and I already feel like a professional carpet layer after watching all these awesome carpet videos. Great job on the video
😂😂👍awesome
not only a pro installer but an excellent teacher. complete breakdown of everything. A+ video. much appreciated.
Awesome, thank you very much
My first carpeting DIY job was installing carpet on stairs. Thanks to this (and other Floors by Southern Boys videos) the job turned out GREAT. I agree with another commenter - there are tons of videos out there, but this is the only one you need to watch. Thank you for making a high quality video, showing each step, and for explaining why you do each step.
Awesome,thank you

Hey dude - really appreciate this video. taught me a lot and was able to repair a step in my house that's been staring at me for too long.
Awesome, good job
Excellent demonstration Sir.
I'm now tempted to give it a go.
😀👍awesome
Good job man, thanks for the in depth quality and care.

Great job
Great informative video as usual great for guy's getting into the trade. Do the job right and you don't get call backs
That’s it buddy, thanks for watching
So much useful information and explanations. Thank you!
You’re welcome
Once again Reuban your attention to detail is so perfect.Im retired now after 25yrs and loss of my drivers licence, I still miss the smell of installing carpet 😁.I love your videos 👍👌💯
Thank you sir, I honestly feel for you, I couldn’t imagine my life without installing
@@FloorsbySouthernboys I've still got my tools and my young bloke is a layer also.Im not lost to it yet. 😉👍
@@Michael-osas awesome
Simply explained. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, great teacher!!
Thank you!
Thank you so much !!! Great explanation !!!
learn a lot from this video, very very clear explanation of each single step and why he did so. thank you👍👍👍
Awesome , glad it helped
Wow....what an awesome video and result.
👍
Wow, that was awesome!! You are skilled! My stairs need re-carpeting. After watching this video, I can see what a poor job the previous carpet layer did…tons of side voids…terrible prep work! I will now know what to discuss with the new carpet guy, wish it was YOU doing the job…haha! Thank you so much!!
😀😀👍
Really good tips! and it shows you take pride in your work. Even though it's a demo, you're going back and fixing every little imperfection. You make it look easy and I'm sure it's not. I've racked my knuckles on tack strips before and it's really hard to watch someone work around them. Makes my knuckles hurt just seeing it!
Ouch those tack strips are no joke
I always learn at least one new trick when I take the time to watch your videos.
Cool, thank you
nice work, good to see someone else who puts gripper on the sides
😀👍
Nice install. One thing you said that a lot of installers don’t know, always run the pile down the steps. It is a wear issue. And your kicker won’t slide going against the pile.
thanks buddy
Thanks for this. Super helpful. Hope your hand is feeling better.
😀👍
Wow. Loved your video. Tried to hire someone to redo my stairs last year. Never could get job booked, texted back and forth. I wish I could hire you here in South Dakota.
I hope you ended up getting your stairs done
Great video, sir, thank you! Wish you loads customers
Thank you
Thank you so much for a very informative tutorial. I feel I can do it myself now.
Absolute professional. Watch all of this pros videos if
you want to learn how to do it right and speed tips also.
🥰
These are done perfectly IMO. I do not tackless the sides but appreciate the effort. Be cautious that the tape across the nosing does not cover any staples or tackless or it will make a clicking noise ( there should not be staples there but you never know) . I never taped my nosing but I just ripped off a flight last week and the pad was disintegrated across nose just like you said. Well done sir
Tom Sexton Thank you
Me either
Over 30 years in the trade , pad will still disintegrate with taped nose if bad pad ( have torn off many stairs ).
Strip on side is a sign some one is not able to properly fit steps and will be a call back the first time a bare foot bleeds.
Thanks for a great informative video. Excellent instruction.
You’re welcome
Don't normally subscribe or like but you earned both thanks for the hard work and tips and great attitude love it
Thank you my friend, really glad you like the video and really glad it was helpful
Easy to see that this guy is a master at this.
☺️
I like your attention to detail. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Liked/subscribed...

first timer here. your video is the fifth one I’ve watched and I learned some great tips. this video has been the most informative and I like how your camera angle was looking down the staircase- great video! thanks for sharing your skills 😊
Really appreciate you sharing that, I hope your staircase turns out wonderful

FloorsbySouthernboys I hope your hand is better now too
Sweet Vuvuzela Thank you, it is getting there
I got the idea it’s really helpful because I’m going to have my course by next month
Awesome
Ty sir for you video . I m learn to put a carpet 👏👏
You’re welcome
Excellent video , thank you really helped
😀👍
Thank you.
I just watched your other video where you are using the crain stair stretcher and I can't believe how much harder it looks when you are using your knee kicker in this video!!
😀👍
@@FloorsbySouthernboys your a legend love ya man!!👍🏽
Very thorough video. Never seen tackstrip put on risers before. Is that because there is no bullnose/overhang on lip of step? Watching some of your old videos and your new videos and you’ve improved your installation skills tremendously! I love when I see a set of steps done with no stapler. Craftsman!
Thank you sir and I put the texture on the risers so that I could kick it side to side, that would not work if there was a bull nose
Okay, now I need you to come over and do my stairs. 😅
😂😂
this guy is a boss!
😂😂 Thanks buddy
Nice tutorial!
Good job bud followed your video got awesome results took a lot of time preparing as you showed and also used duck tape on the nosing hope your arm is better too
That’s great, I hope that turned out awesome for you

I work in the flooring industry, and I have to show this video to others that claim they are carpet vets.
😀😢Awesome
Professional job
Thank you sir
Thank you for your videos. I want to do my own carpeting. The only thing is my stairs have one wall and open on the other side. It looks like it was role over on that end, but I cannot tell if a tack strip was used.
Any suggestions?
YOU CAN SEE HOW THEY ARE DONE WHEN YOU PULL THEM OFF, PUT THEM BACK THE SAME WAY
