Thanks for the great video 🙂 I installed a runner from Home Depot and rented a staple gun like you did. This helped me have the confidence to move ahead with the project
Thankyou!! I want them to be quick and easy to follow. I personally don’t like when I have to try to find the POINT of the video I’m watching scrolling through their life story 😂😂
Wow! Great video! I’ve watched a bunch of these and the others were old school with the grip tack strips etc and I love your use of the carpet tape!! Turned out beautiful and loved your runner choice!!
I personally felt like it was too many layers that could potentially slip or move. The rug I used is also super thick so if you have a thin one maybe?? But I definitely didn’t need it. Good luck!!
Hello my staircase creaks a lot when I step on it. Will installing a stair runner help absorb the noise ? Are there any other alternatives ? Thanks again great video !!
Hey! I don't think it will help much with the noise BUT, if you screw through the treads to secure them to the stair stringers, a stair runner will hide that and it should stop the noise.
About to do my basement stairs. Too slippery for our one dog who isn't using a back leg. Do you regret not putting any padding underneath hindsight? Debating on using padding or not. Picking up our runner tonight or tomorrow night. Will install on the weekend.
very nice video my wife and i will take that project at the beginning of the year, where did you find a runner that long and how wide is the runner you used. thanks
Thank you! Our stairs are a death trap as well. So slick! I was wondering how to carpet the stairs when we have no carpet anywhere else. I like how you just did the tread.
Looks terrific! I have been needing to finish mine and was a bit intimidated - but you made it look do-able! Thank you! Can you add a link for the runner?
seriously! its SO easy. im not sure your skill level but i bet anyone following this could do it. thankyou!! i tried to find the link online but i cant find this exact one, it is from home depot though and they have a ton of pretty options. i needed 21 feet for 13 stairs and a landing.
Hey! I'm about to do this (finally), and I'm wondering what is important when renting the staple gun? I see there are different kinds, and I want to make sure I get the right one. Hoping to rent it today and get it done! Thanks for this video!!!! I never would have done this on my own without it! I've watched it several times lol
I’m so sorry I didn’t answer this sooner. Did you ever end up doing your stairs?? (I’m finally back on RUclips regularly after have two babies back to back lol. What a ride!)
great job, you left out an important thing....how did you measure for the length rug needed for the stairs? Also I wonder how long carpet tape last to hold carpet down compared to old school tack strips.
I don't think I would trust carpet tape on the stairs, it would be a hard wipe out. But to measure, use the Depth plus height of one stair and then multiply it by the number of stairs. add 2 or 3 for waste/ rolling voer the lip edged etc.
Looks great. Thanks for posting! I have an electric staple gun, not one that hooks to an air compressor, will this work too? I'm using a flat weave rug.
One thing I couldn't tell in video, what r all the places u staple, is it bottom of riser, back of tread, under the lip and sides? Where on sides did u put the staples? Right on that border edge or inside of the little border? Tks 😊 oh and what size staples? Sorry so many q's 🤦♀️
So sorry I didn't see this comment! Theres no real rhyme or reason because the staples get burried in the rug, but definitely under the lip of the tread and where it bends. The staples are 16 guage! Hope this helps
Love the stairs with the carpet runner. I am getting ready to tackle this project, wish me well. Can you tell me where you purchase your rug runner. Love the design,
I’m not sure the exact length but I measure the rise and run of the stair and multiplied it by the number of stairs. (Then I added 3 lengths just in case)
Does this reduces wooden stairs quirking noise in any way? It looks easier to install instead of installing carpet for whole floors like professionals do.
it doesn't but if you have a squeaky stair and plan to install a runner, you can use screws to screw through the stairs to stop the squeak and then cover it with the runner. Hope that helps!
Hey! I just measured the depth of the stairs and the height of the risers and multiplied it by the amount of stairs. I added two extra to account for any lips/curves
Home Depot in Dartmouth! I haven't been able to find it online but Its still in store. When I go in next time Ill find the SKU and leave it in a comment for everyone
Thank you so much for this. While I can't shop yet (been in lockdown since Dec 26th in my part of Canada) ... eventually when stores open up again, especially to get the type of runner you used (love it) ... then I'll be hopefully doing mine. Psst, staple guns are the cats meow in my tool box here at home!! Stay safe in your home and when you venture outside!
I hope your able to keep a positive mindset in your lock down! In Nova Scotia we have been so fortunate not to have a second one. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I agree a staple gun is so crucial! Good luck on your install! 😊

Great video straight to the point. The last tip of folding the extra carpet made everything look seamless.

Aw thanks so much!! Its been a few years and it's just like I put it in yesterday.
I hope you subscribed :)
Looks nice. Why no padding under the carpet?
It was pretty thick and didn’t need anymore.
Wasn't planning on commenting but hats off to you. Thanks for the video great explanation
Glad you liked it! thanks :)
Looks great. Where did you get the stair runner?
Thanks! I got it at Home Depot
Great job. We are about to do ours. Where did you get your carpet? We love the pattern.
Home Depot! Although I have had several people tell me its not on the shelves anymore. how did yours turn out?
Will the adhesive & staples hold up to steam cleaning the rug runner as needed?
They should. I just vaccum mine I don't steam it
Great job , I would only add one thing using a stair tool will tuck it in to the crease well
Great tip! Thanks so much!
Did you use narrow crown staples? What size??
I used 18 gauge.
I'm tackling this job this year (after putting it off) would you recommend laying an underlay under the rug or not?
Definitely not. A few years later and I think I might of actually overkilled it with tape. Staples on another job I did worked just as great.
Thank you so much! Installing mine today with the help of this video!
Hey! i'm so glad it helped! have fun!!
Where did you get that rug and what is the length?! I love it and this is what I'm looking to do on my stairs.
I got it from Home Depot! Did you tackle yours yet?
What a great video! Could your link where you got that runner? Please! It’s so nice! Thank you!
I can’t find the link online but I got it at Home Depot!!
You did a great job. Where did you get the runner?
Thanks so much! Home Depot :)
Love how straight forward and visual it is thank you
thanks so much! glad you liked it
Im about to do mine but im torn between using underpadding or not. What led to your decision not to use padding? Thanks!
I personally felt like it was too many layers that could potentially slip or move. The rug I used is also super thick so if you have a thin one maybe?? But I definitely didn’t need it. Good luck!!
You are super handy..thank you for sharing..would you mind giving the link for carpet you used.
Hey! thanks so much! I wasnt able to find it online but its a stocked runner at my local Home depot, I hope that helps!
Brilliant video, straight to the point. Thank you

Can you give me the information on the staple gun you used.. Excellent video, I want to use the tape instead of the tact srip.. Thank you
I rented it from home depot! I wish i had more details for you sorry!!
Nice job, Where did you get your runner??
Thanks! I got it from home depot
About to do my basement stairs. Too slippery for our one dog who isn't using a back leg. Do you regret not putting any padding underneath hindsight? Debating on using padding or not. Picking up our runner tonight or tomorrow night. Will install on the weekend.
I didn’t use padding because my runners quite thick. I don’t feel like it has more pros or cons. Just depends on if your runner is thin or not
Can you share where you got your pretty runner? Thank you!
I got it from Home Depot :)
very nice video my wife and i will take that project at the beginning of the year, where did you find a runner that long and how wide is the runner you used. thanks
awesome! Im glad you found it helpful! I found this runner at Home Depot.

its so scary to have such steep stairs!! thankyou im glad you liked it :)Its
What kind of carpet is that? It appears flexible & we’d love to get the exact kind. Thanks in advance!

Did you nail the folded last step the same way you did with the other steps then and it was fine?
Yup! I did. It was great and still holding up well
Where did tou get the staple gun and what power is it?
I just rented it from a tool rental shop nearby.

Kristen Barber yup it absolutely will! Even a Manuel one.
I wonder if it’s possible to add cushion under the runner?
Yes it’s absolutely possible!
Will work over carpeted stairs?
I cant see why it wouldnt!
No, it will start to creep, never fit over the old carpet
Great work! Looks good and doesn’t seem too hard. Now to find a carpet I like…
You can do it!

Carpet tape looks easier than padding.
Thanks! It’s really not very difficult n
How long is your rug? How do you measure?
I’m not sure the exact length but I measure the rise and run of the stair and multiplied it by the number of stairs. (Then I added 3 lengths just in case)
Great work and HUGE kudos for being so incredibly handy as a woman. I do many project myself. Mutual admiration:).
thanks so much! Nothing we cant do :)
How do you measure how long of a runner to buy?
Measure the height and depth of your stairs, and multiply by the amount of stairs. Then I add a few.
Average 1 meter per 2 steps.
Thanks for that demo..about to do mine
Awesome! how did it turn out?
@@dcwoodworks I turned out really good..I was impress thanks to you
@@susieroberts8457 awesome! So glad I could help
Hi nice job, I was just wondering if the staples were very noticeable on the runner, especially due to the colour of your runner. 😊
Hey! Great question, no they aren’t. The power of the stapler pushes them deep into the fibres of the rug
@DC WOODWORKS Hi thank you so much 😊
No worries! Good luck!
Beaituful !!!! What size staples did you use?
thanks! honestly i am not sure, when I rented the stapler they came with it. They are just standard I think
If I did this and in the future I wanted to remove it can carpet tape be removed
I think so! with the proper adhesive remover/ goo-gone
Great video! I fell down my stairs too.
Sorry to hear that!! Are you going to install a runner?
Great explanation! Simple and clear. Thank you.
Richard Chalmers glad I could help! Your welcome:)
When you bought your runner did you buy a physical rug or were you able to purchase by the foot in a roll?
i bought it by the roll :)
Hi there! Where did you get the stair runner carpet? Can you share a link?
My wife ordered ours from Amazon
Thanks so much! This is LONG over due but I got it at Home Depot. Did you ever end up doing one yourself?
They have great options on there!!
That looks very nice 👍
You do great work.
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for this, much better with the tape than the method I started with. Great video.
You're welcome! So glad it helped
Gréât job, where dis you get your carpette ruiner ?

Hi, how to you determine the length of the runner you need please ❤
Hey! I just measured the depth of the stairs and the height of the risers and multiplied it by the amount of stairs.
I added two extra to account for any lips/curves
My question is how did you find a runner that long I know all stairs vary but what length did you purchase
I found mine at home depot, they sell it on big wheels and can pull off what you need.
Well done looks lovely
thankyou!
Loved, amazing work. Where is the runner from please 😃
thanks! I got it from Home depot
How did you measure to get the amount of carpet needed for this project?
I measure the treads and the risers and then added a few extra for waste
Hi! Can I use staple gun on luxury vinyl stairs?
I don't suggest it no. maybe just carpet tape
Where did you purchased your runner from?
I got it from Home Depot!
Looks awesome Denika! 😍👌🏻 Glad you're on the mend! 👍🏻👊🏻
thanks fred! yes i am feeling MUCH better!
Beautiful! How is it holding up a year later?
Hey! its great! hasn't moved or changed one bit I will defiantly do it this way again if I ever need to do another / if I move :)Its
Where did you get your stair runner from? I was looking on Amazon but they don't have really anything.
Thanks! I got mine from Home Depot
@@dcwoodworks Awesome, thank you. Just looked and found a few I really like.

Hi, Where do you buy that runner?
Hey! thanks I got it from Home Depot!
Can I ask.. I know I'm late to the video. Did you fold the bottom piece? I couldn't quite make it out. It's a great video. I'm inspired ❤
No worries!! Yup I did. I actually used my hair straightener to put a crease it in (lol)
@@dcwoodworks brilliant! Yes , what a great tip , I'll do it over greaseproof paper thanks 😊 x
What size staples did you use?
They are 16 gauge!
Hi, awesome video! Where did you get your runner from, or what is the name of it? :) thanks!
thanks! I got it from home Depot :)
de verda me impresionas con tus trabajo
sorry I wish I knew how to translate! RUclips should really have that option
Very talented!
Thank you! Cheers!
This is so helpful! Now I think we can put a carpet runner in our new home ourselves instead of hiring someone..thanks for this informative video:)
Glad it was helpful! have fun with your runner project!!
Hey, what can I use on ceramic tiles? I won’t be able to staple my floors
Hey! Im not sure you could do it on tile unless you use a tile bit and drill them but that would be pretty invasive.
I actually fell down my hardwood stairs as well. Beautiful job. Where did you purchase the rug?
oh no!!! I hope you are ok! I got this one from Home Depot
great job, Denika!
thankyou!
How many stairs do you have? I bought a 23 foot runner for 12 stairs. I hope mine is long enough!!!
I think you should! I have 14 stairs.
Did you order this off Home Depot website or get it in store? Are you able to order this length? Sorry lord of questions
No problem! I got in in store and I used 23 feet for 12 stairs and a landing :)

I just uploaded my newest video. Let me know what you think!
ruclips.net/video/puHOv0FkKB0/видео.html
No padding. No grippers. This was a lot less complicated and it looks good and probably not going anywhere. I like it.
Thanks! 5 years in and it hasn’t moved. Are you installing one??
@@dcwoodworks Probably
Does this damage the floor?
nope! Goo gone would take the adhesive off, the staple holes are super small and can be willed with a matching filler
Well done. Keep it up.
Thanks so much!!
How did you measure how much of the runner you needed for the stairs? Also, really great video!
Thanks so much! I measured the length of the stair treads and risers. Then multiplied it by the number of stairs and added a few extra feet
She’s cute! Stairs look good, but wow!
haha Thankyou! :)
What is the name of your stapler
I don’t actually remember. I rented it from a tool shop
Great stuff. No nonsense
I try to keep it straight to the point. I just uploaded two new videos, also quick and info-packed.
No padding ?
Nope. It’s not needed here
Id trust carpet gripper more then tape to be honest but fair play 👍🏻
I think the staples were the key. carpet tape was more so it wouldn't shift under feet since carpet has a flex.
How long was the runner and how many stairs do you have? Great video.. I'm doing my stairs now so I'm saving it as my go to.
I have 17 stairs and the runner was about 26 feet long to start with. 3 feet wide. I didn't quite use it all. Good luck on yours!
