I flew all the way to Florida to help Mom and Dad with a lot of things. This wasn't even on their list. I found out the window was broken, like is shown in the video, and when I saw the window acted like a guillotine, I consulted RUclips, and found this. I love you man! Mom thinks I am so smart. (Shh! Don't tell her!)

Oh man, the trick to turn the flathead screwdriver to move the tracks up was what helped me fix my window! I took it out for cleaning, got it all lopsided and couldn't put it back in. This video is a life-saver!

This was AMAZING! There was no guessing what you were doing...the camera zoomed right in and we could see everything, so when doing it ourselves, we knew just what to do. You explained it all perfectly. I just did what you said to do and voila! This window that wouldn't stay up after cleaning it is now acting normal. Thank you!

This is a good video for people who simply don't understood how their tilt-in windows work. Sometimes (like mine) the window wouldn't open and that was because the 'shoe' (the spring-loaded coil in the window frame) was broken. It took me about two years to get the window manufacturer to send me replacements and I realized why they broke so fast (brand new house): i) because they used plastic parts that were very flimsy, and ii) they supplied tiny little screws that would not grip into the frame. I used the replacement shoes they sent but I used screws that were 2x as long. So far so good.

This was very helpful, and I did it to my windows but it didn’t work (actually they’re worse). I don’t have the metal U, I have a plastic circle where the metal tab fits into.
I got the window back on and closed (it’s so hot here) and I’ll continue looking for solutions.
Any ideas on what else it could be?

Thank you for this video! I heard a strange noise earlier today but didn’t know what happened until I needed to open the window, the mechanism must have popped but had been working fine. I’ll wait to fix it until I can get a helper because the ‘guillotine’ window now feels too heavy to try to maneuver it by myself.

  • @Chataleki

That’s not my question. I want to know where I get parts for the cord and pulleys that allow the window to open at any level desired and not slam back down. These parts wear out after 20+ years. The repairs themselves are a 5 minute remove and replace. Then, you can open and close with ease and they work like brand new. Do you know what those parts are called and where I can get them? Thanks a lot!

It didn't work for me but I discovered that my window has draw strings that hold up my window. I Removed the window from the tracks and looked up on both sides. Saw there was a piece of metal with string tied to it and a piece of enclosed vinyl track. I had to take pliers and grab a hold of the metal and pull it down and slide the string down and into the back upper corner of the shoe so that the metal piece was being held inside the shoe and the string was running up into the enclosed vinyl piece. I repeated on the other side and then put the window back in. Voila
