Yep but to be precise that was locking from shabba, those days they actually categorised it properly, ie break dancing is usually on the floor aka b boy and breaking, but popping, locking, waving, robot, tutting is usually standing up.
I mean, just like a lot of things, had origins prior, but it is considered a part of breaking. Depends on the crew I guess. Lol. Either way, I learned it as a part of Up Rock. Specifics! Lol
Rest in piece Shabbado you were an inspiration to me. We met in 1979 at the London club called Club for hero's. Everyone was awestruck by his dancing skills, we had never seen anything like it!!! Amazing guy really friendly. Sorry for your loss, the Hip Hop locking community mourns one of the pioneers.
The host's name was Sydney and the show was "Hip-Hop". This TV show largely contributed to expand the hip-hop culture in France...Loved it ! And I love his Thriller jacket !
As a young man (88') and a hip hop fan this is absolutely my favorite performance of shabba doo and boogaloo shrimp together. I can appreciate this and the foundation they laid down for future dancers and hip-hop enthusiast. Legends for sure. 👏👏✌️
That costume is actually so well thought out. The French used to trade fur with the Native Americans in colonial days. Guess it's cool that even looking back, they were throwing it back to history and common culture!
Ca montre que c'était du sérieux cette émission ! Les acteurs de "Breakin" sont carrément venu des USA ! En tout cas, ils densent vraiment bien ! Vraiment cool !
Thanks for posting rare footage. For those people posting negative comments, please respect the originators who carried and inspired this culture we now all enjoy. You only diss yourself.

tom underwood Boogaloo Shrimp and Shabba-Doo are from two different eras. Shab is from the 1970s decade which started lockin'. Boogaloo is from the 1980s decade (my era) which is when pop locking was at its height.

@@icfent popping and locking is a part of breaking. It's called, "Up Rock" the ground moves are, "Down Rock" coming from a b girl who still breaks. ;)
