He committed suicide. Not really sure why his family was trying to sue? I guess people will do anything these days to try and make a buck.
Probably for over serving him alcohol.
Multiple reasons how royal Caribbean could be sued right here.
There's no such thing as over serving alcohol, only irresponsible weak-minded drunks over drinking. Unfortunately no one wants to take blame for their own actions and society seems to have been reduced to its own drunken stupor being accepting of things like this.

I’ve been studying the minds of suicide victims for 6 and a half years now with my old friend. One thing I can’t imagine is the regret the man felt when he hit the water. The vulnerability of being in the dark, cold ocean. All alone, knowing no one will save him in time. Knowing you’ll have a slow death. The salty waters filling your lungs, the families he left behind, all of their faces flashing before his eyes. Wow, sad

Maybe the turbine’s from the ship got him it makes the current really strong in the water and most likely sucked him in that would of been even worse at least was my first thought of what probably happened to him hopefully not of course

He would have likely been sucked under the boat almost immediately due to the current the boat creates. Probably never made it back to the surface. Either chopped up by propellers or drowned because it was forced down so deep due to current.

I can't imagine what would make someone take their own life in such a terrifying way.....drowning in the deep, dark, unforgiving ocean. He must have really been suffering mentally and emotionally. I hope he is in a better place now.

The thing is I doubt he died on impact , the rescue boats weren’t to high up where they were stored. So he must have been in the water for a good amount of time till he grew weary and drowned, Sucked up underneath the boat, or straight up got eaten by only who knows what’s under that water... either way, yep regret.
Where I live a lot of people jump from cruise ships just for fun so my guess is he drowned instad of dying on impact

This actually gives me chills. Just imagine that freezing cold dark water and then watching the cruise ship sail away into the darkness...
This is the Caribbean so the water was probably like 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Which means he couldn't even look forward to a quick death from hypothermia. His only options were to just tread water until he ran out of energy and drowned or got eaten by a shark.

I have been on multiple cruise ships on royal Caribbean and I was shocked to see someone on a family-friendly cruise take his own life. This is really sad, and I hope this guy is in a better place.
Not really. This man was taking photos of little boys around the kiddie pool - multiple parents complained to security because he had no children. Then went to his cabin to have sex with his partner while he lusts over little boy pictures on his phone. Then he had a blowout with his partner (who did not want him to take photos of little boys) and multiple cabins called security as he was screaming and smashing things in his room. The rest is history.
People do similar things more than you'd think. Apperently a lot of people take very luxurious trips to Disney World to end their life at the last day. Same with Cruise Ships. Just one more big adventure before you stop it...
If being devoured first by the water and then the beasts of the sea is a better place than a cruise ship, then why oh why would anyone buy a trip on one?

To even imagine that someone is cheering on a persons suicide is heartless. That was a reaction of terror. He first grabbed his head before raising his arms in the sky. That’s a reaction of anguish. The people watching this live will probably suffer from PTSD and have nightmares. A little easier to watch on video. We watch a fast little clip and then we’re off to our next video, as if nothing happened. That’s how easy it is to live in RUclips World.

He most likely never made it from under the water alive. The ship moving next to him would cause him to be sucked under water and maybe even hit the propellers at the back of the ship.

I was on a cruise a few years ago and someone fell overboard. Their protocol is to turn around and circle that area until the coast guard arrives. I wonder how difficult it is to save someone who jumps or falls into the ocean.

probably one of the worse ways you can take your own life. he wanted to go at any chance he could. i feel bad for everyone, including the people on the boat who were trying to save him, and keep him from committing suicide. truly awful.
He was in an emotional state not a logical state. As soon as he hit the water, his adrenalin would kick in and he would realize the import of what he has just done.
I don’t know guys. It really looks to me like he fell. I get he put himself in that situation, but sometimes people get pushed to these limits but can’t bring themselves to go all the way. I think he could and would have been saved if he hadn’t fallen. It’s really tragic.

I was on Symphony for 7 nights and couldn't stop watching the endless open waters.. My biggest fear is deep dark waters. The fear of not knowing whats lurking beneath me while floating alone in the unforgiving ocean.. And this poor dude experience exactly all the above, plus getting sucked underneath a huge ship by the spinning propellers 👀

Now to get back to the man I'm so sorry for the loss especially for his family and friends that he felt so lost that he had to take his life he must have showed signs people we need to be more aware. I was in mental distress in my family didn't realize it until I put myself in the hospital.

I used to be a 1st Mate on a fishing vessel. He was most likely sucked under the boat and into the azipod screws (propellers) and chopped to bits within a few seconds after you see him hit the water.

I always use the "build fences next to rivers" when people fall in or choose to jump.......u can't put fences up next to rivers, u would literally have to put up billions of miles of fences. It's just impossible. Similar to this situation, u probably could put up gaurds around a whole ship, but then u got to do it to every single ship......and for what? U just can't safeguard everything

Mark Twain once wrote of a true event at sea. An ocean liner was towing a dirigible. The dirigible crew saw a man fall off the back of the ship. They notified the bridge who chose to ignore it. The cost of turning a full ship and an airship around was just too much. Twain witnessed a point in history where cost directly exceeded the value of a human life.

Ryan White oceanic White Tip sharks probably took care of the body. They usually cruise the open ocean where there isn’t much to eat. When an opportunity presents itself, such as a passenger falling off a ship, I’m sure they wasted no time. They normally don’t.

It is so sad that he was getting mad at other people for trying to save him. I have never in my life seen a person so determined to take their own life. Depression, suicide and mental illness is real.

even sadder thing was he was drunk, not even suicidal.
He could have just been a bit depressed but feeling the alcohol blues which just blew up 100xs.

A cruise ship would be a great venue for taking one's life. Total pampering and then the jump to end it all.

You're right, that is definitely terrifying. What's even more terrifying is the possibility that he didn't get killed by the propellers. Then that would leave either dying by hypothermia, drowning, or getting taken by some ungodly creature from the depths of the sea

After a fall from that height, he would likely sink far enough into the water where he would then be sucked under the ship’s hull, battered, and then chopped up in the propellers. A very brutal, scary, quick death.

One time I was on a party boat and this guy who was drunk was dancing on the edge of the boat, (very stupid decision) and we were all having fun until he fell backwards off the boat. He was very lucky and managed to survive and get back on the boat unharmed, but I shudder to think of what could have happened, since he fell where the propellers were

I'm an old seaman. When you fall so close to the hull of the ship, you're most likely to be sucked under, and end up in the propeller. It has something to to with the water displacement. At about half of the ships length, the the "front", the water is pushed outwards. At the second half length the "stern", The water is sucked in so as to push the ship forward. Same ting happens with the air around a moving car.

How can the cruise ship not be equipped with a rapid response team/boat/lighting equipment etc., for something like this, or when someone falls overboard?
The ship is way way way too big. Any such team response couldn't be quick enough as the drop could have killed him, the under tow may have killed him, the water out numbered him a google : 1

a coworker of mine told me that this happened to the cruise he was on...looked it up and now im here. he said this guy and his boyfriend had got into an argument after losing over 10k at the casino, and he jumped. its really sad how something like that could’ve pushed him to do this. especially because he said the ship couldnt stop moving until rescue came
