As a child, my father and I went to the place where a guy committed suicide on the freeway overpass in California (it was on TV). He said "son look at that, now, look at everything around you. Has anyone stopped living due to this? Life moves on son."
Ik this is 7 years ago, but still.. I have been on multiple cruise ships on royal Caribbean and I was shocked to see someone on a family-friendly cruise take his own life. This is really sad, and I hope this guy is in a better place.
Not really. This man was taking photos of little boys around the kiddie pool - multiple parents complained to security because he had no children. Then went to his cabin to have sex with his partner while he lusts over little boy pictures on his phone. Then he had a blowout with his partner (who did not want him to take photos of little boys) and multiple cabins called security as he was screaming and smashing things in his room. The rest is history.
People do similar things more than you'd think. Apperently a lot of people take very luxurious trips to Disney World to end their life at the last day. Same with Cruise Ships. Just one more big adventure before you stop it...
If being devoured first by the water and then the beasts of the sea is a better place than a cruise ship, then why oh why would anyone buy a trip on one?
By the looks of him, the after wave could have flipped the cruise into the same fate as titanic too, so the cruise should be suing his family for the almost disaster
i knew someone would make a dumb comment like this. you can clearly see his mouth moving he was screaming and put his hands up out of fear no one would cheer for this they were all trying to save him

I don’t know guys. It really looks to me like he fell. I get he put himself in that situation, but sometimes people get pushed to these limits but can’t bring themselves to go all the way. I think he could and would have been saved if he hadn’t fallen. It’s really tragic.
the terrifying thing is he would've been sucked under the ship by the force of the water and been stuck until he drowned or torn up by something on the underside of the boat
@@rasul407 Right. Garcia Teixeira eventually lost his grip and fell into the sea, approximately 17 miles east of the Turks and Caicos Islands. His body has not been found.
Ryan White oceanic White Tip sharks probably took care of the body. They usually cruise the open ocean where there isn’t much to eat. When an opportunity presents itself, such as a passenger falling off a ship, I’m sure they wasted no time. They normally don’t.
probably one of the worse ways you can take your own life. he wanted to go at any chance he could. i feel bad for everyone, including the people on the boat who were trying to save him, and keep him from committing suicide. truly awful.
He was in an emotional state not a logical state. As soon as he hit the water, his adrenalin would kick in and he would realize the import of what he has just done.
this is one of the worst ways to die... in the dark alone in the ocean until you finally get exhausted and go under, he must've really been suffering to go through with this..
I used to be a 1st Mate on a fishing vessel. He was most likely sucked under the boat and into the azipod screws (propellers) and chopped to bits within a few seconds after you see him hit the water.
Money does by happiness. That's an ignorant saying these days. Everyone needs it and world is run on it. In fact, if you have a lot of money and you lose all of it, people react like this too. I've seen people kill/try to kill themselves over lesser things. So to me, money does buy happiness. It's what you do with the money that will make you happy.
It is so sad that he was getting mad at other people for trying to save him. I have never in my life seen a person so determined to take their own life. Depression, suicide and mental illness is real.
Definitely regretted it after he hit that water , that’s honestly crazy , the fact after he fell he probably was trying to stay a float watching the ship leave , that’s sounds like the worst way ever to leave .
After a fall from that height, he would likely sink far enough into the water where he would then be sucked under the ship’s hull, battered, and then chopped up in the propellers. A very brutal, scary, quick death.
I was on a cruise a few years ago and someone fell overboard. Their protocol is to turn around and circle that area until the coast guard arrives. I wonder how difficult it is to save someone who jumps or falls into the ocean.
Didn't you notice all the massive lifeboats attached to the side of the ship. It looks to me like the human race is devolving, as i have scrolled through these comments and not one mention of lifeboats.
A ship that size and traveling at that speed would take at least 30-40 minutes minimum to slow down and circle back to the position where the guy went in. By then, he could have drowned, been diced up by the ship propellers or drifted away with the current.
I'm an old seaman. When you fall so close to the hull of the ship, you're most likely to be sucked under, and end up in the propeller. It has something to to with the water displacement. At about half of the ships length, the the "front", the water is pushed outwards. At the second half length the "stern", The water is sucked in so as to push the ship forward. Same ting happens with the air around a moving car.
My eyes hurt which side is up or down? I cant tell the camera angle is confusing me. He fell inwards into the water but then a guy raised his hands to rhe upside of the camera edge.
I may have naviphobia, but just the thought of being sucked under a massive ship with propellers the size of a 3-story building sounds absolutely terrifying.
You're right, that is definitely terrifying. What's even more terrifying is the possibility that he didn't get killed by the propellers. Then that would leave either dying by hypothermia, drowning, or getting taken by some ungodly creature from the depths of the sea
a coworker of mine told me that this happened to the cruise he was on...looked it up and now im here. he said this guy and his boyfriend had got into an argument after losing over 10k at the casino, and he jumped. its really sad how something like that could’ve pushed him to do this. especially because he said the ship couldnt stop moving until rescue came
Crazy thing is here is another clip from the same TV show but they dont show the "bigger story" goes to show how the media can manipulate news with clips and witnesses....ruclips.net/video/17ZWPmG6G1s/видео.html
In my country, it's illegal for media to report on suicides like this, due to the possibility of copycat effect. This is just incredibly insensitive on the news channel's part. Not going to finish this video.
You always hear people going missing on these ships. I am starting To think just by watching that video that maybe these missing people jumped on purpose?
I have trouble empathizing for people like that. It's a selfish act, and deeply hurts those you care most about. You gain nothing. People might at firsy ask "why?", but eventually everyone moves on and loses respect for you. He died a horrible death, but I guess that's what he wanted. To each their own...
I've known several people who committed suicide, including my own stepsister. It's the most selfish and stupid thing a person can do. There's nothing glorious about it. You die alone and then people eventually forget about you in a year or two. Their only memory of you is that pathetic act you committed. That's the reality of it.
Femke van der Hem ....That was his husband they were on honeymoon. Plus he was the one doings all the shouting not the guy hanging on to you boat. He was injured and bleeding badly.
So for those asking about what happened: he was on a cruise with his husband. They had an argument in their stateroom which turned into a physical fight. Ship security were called, at which point this guy (out of protest I guess) threatened to throw himself over the balcony before actually going ahead and doing it. He landed on that metal beam and clung on before eventually letting go (and yes that streak on it is blood). His husband sued the cruise line saying that when the guy threatened to jump overboard the captain should've stopped the ship (wtf!) and also claiming homophobia. Which sounds to me like he's trying to make a quick buck off a terrible incident.
as a gay dude, stopping the ship is not going to do much. even if they stopped the engines minutes before he let go, the water current would still have been enough to drag him down and kill him. its not homophobic, there was just not much that could be done.
also the Oasis of the seas is MASSIVE. the water wake it creates would have probably thrashed him around like a ragdoll, i would bet he was actually killed by being knocked out by the water currents than he was anything else.
I was reading an article that was mentioning that, according to the husband, the security claimed there was domestic conflict or whatever, which they said they weren't (at least the victim's partner), then this man, tired of the recurrent harassment (homophobia) in that cruise, THREATENED to jump, and the husband went after, then the crew. the partner was pulled away, and in a video that the victim recorded, you can see how many times the husband kept repeating how the guy pushed his partner. then he tries to go there after him, but they don't let him, as the crew goes to try and save him. in the end, he keeps falling in the water, either for suicide, or being too weak (or slipping as it seems he tries to keep hanging there but fails), or, a VERY unlikely scenario, the person let go of him. I saw just today the video in the room, and I'm pretty sure this is the same case
Camera angle: Camera is on top of the boat. The lifeboat is hanging out as usual. The crowd trying to stop him is «hanging» out from the ship over the fence.
Isn't he going to be swimming, floating for hrs? I thought cruice ships had emergency fast boats to retrieve anyone from falling. That was just my thought.
@@Thew0rm In all fairness though, they were trying to save him and most likely would've but he didn't want them to so that's on him. Haha no .. he just simply drowned after a 50000 pound ship hit him head on seconds after touching the water thus causing unconsciousness thus drowning him
Urban myth, the ship displaces the water and anyone in it away from the sides with far more power than the vacuum from the screws beneath can suck from the surface.

Femke van der Hem ....That was his husband they were on honeymoon. Plus he was the one doings all the shouting not the guy hanging on to you boat. He was injured and bleeding badly.
I would have cheered too if I was there.
I was on that sailing! The man had been fighting with his boyfriend. We heard that they actually did damage to the stateroom because of fighting.
