One way to get the object cracks to not show before the fracture, Take your duplicated non-fractured object and make it visible. Make your fractured object invisible. When you animate your object that will hit the fractured object, toggle the visibility of the non-fractured object to visible on the impact frame and make your fractured object visible. So you can still have close up shots of the object up until the very frame where it shatters.

Thanks for the tutorial man and I tried to hit the pawn piece with other chess piece and I have applied the active to the pawn piece and connected it like u said and tried some different settings but still it breaks before the other piece hits it. Still trying this thing to work correctly for 3 hrs and still haven't figured it out. Any help please :(

its because you model might be BIG or small.. threshold value differs from scene to scene!
A bit late reply but for those having the same issue make sure you have set the Threshold value for all parts. Same problem happened to me.

You need to decrease the collision threshold sensitivity for all the pieces.
