as a Dutch person, I'm both shocked and ashamed how little I do know about Suriname as a country. All these Dutch names (Zorg en Hoop International, which literally translates to Care and Hope International, which I found to be quite wholesome) both are funny to me, but at the same time also make me, yet again, more aware of our past (and present) colonial influence as a colonial power. only for Javanese descent
@@kotarojujo2737 Nope, not only for Javanese descent. I'm Chinese Indonesian and can easily relate to our Chinese Surinamese brothers and sisters. If I see someone with the surname Tjioe, I can guess they're Chinese Indonesian or Chinese Surinamese. Chinese from English speaking countries would spell the same surname as Chew or Chiu. And amongst Chinese Indonesians and Chinese Surinamese, many are Hakka. So through our shared origins and experiences in former Dutch colonies, we can easily relate on both a superficial and deeper level too.
There are also Indian descent in both countries. In Indonesia, many of the Indian descent are Sindhi and Punjabi in Java, and Tamil in Sumatra. I'm not sure where in India the Indo-Surinamese originated, but I'm sure the two can relate to some extent for the same reasons as the Chinese and Javanese descents in both countries.
Crazy how these ancestral lines work and how people were transported to different continents. I'm South African and most of the mixed and Asian people from the Western Cape(Cape Town) part of the country are descended from Sumatra and the Java islands in Indonesia, as well as Malaysia, The Philippines and India. Only a few of Indonesian descent can speak Basha fluently. Both my parents are mixed with Javanese and African ancestry, but my mom has Indian ancestry as well. But the weirdest thing for me, my last name is actually Filipino and don't have a clue where that came from😁😁😁
@@kotarojujo2737Indonesia used to be called Netherlands Indie in the old days. It was also a dutch colony like Suriname. That makes us brothers.
AAAAAHHH MY COUNTRY BEING SHOWN LOVE IS AMAZING. LOVED IT, WELL RESEARCHED ❤️❤️❤️

The "Eenheid in verscheidenheid" word is the exact same word in Indonesia if we translated unity in diversity into Indonesian language, which is (very obviously) written "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" or "Bersatu Dalam Keberagaman"
Makes sense somehow, doesn't it?
And it's on the coat of arms!
@@PendelSteven Yes, it does...
not your pp being red velvet, fellow geographer and reveluv 😳
@@anotherone. Yep, it's clearly written!
Nations that has been an British+Dutch 'history', as I know is:
i. Suriname
ii. Indonesia
iii. Malaysia
iv. South Africa
v. United States of America
Indonesia wasn't really colonised by the Brits, they just occupied parts of it for a short time during the Napoleonic wars.
And the United States :)
Guyana
Sri Lanka (Dutch Ceylon 1640-1796)
Ghana (Dutch Gold Coast 1637-1874)
Mauritius (Mauritius 1638-1710)
Not colonised: Australia (New Holland), New Zealand (Nieuw Zeeland), Tasmania (Abel Tasman).
No wonder there were not one, not two, not three, but count 'em: FOUR Dutch - English wars. Considering that, we definately have ties to England. Heck, they sort of even made us a kingdom in 1815, so we're more related than you'd think.
The maroon (bosland creolen) has two large tribes called Aucaners en Saramaccaners
They're are 7 tribes totally.
And every tribe has their own dialect.
Most of the dialects are a mixed of the 2 larges tribes
6 stammen;
Saramakaners
Aucaners
Paramakaners
Alukus
Kwintis
Matuariers
This was excellent. So informative!
Fun fact the guy Ronnie Brunswijk is now the vice-president of Suriname

Everyone that lives in Suriname, apart from the native Craib en Arowak people, is a decendant of someone that came to this country...either willingly or unwillingly.
