Putin's war on Ukraine has decimated the Russian military, exposed the myth of Russian military greatness, united what was a fractured NATO alliance, expanded NATO's presence hundreds of miles along the Russian border with the addition of Sweden and Finland after decades of their neutrality (even freaking Switzerland is sending support for Ukraine), and isolated Russia politically and financially except for a few like minded fascist states like North Korea and Iran.
All things Russian has strove for decades to avoid. It's sheer brilliance.

Yes, he said he had no plans to invade Ukraine and he didn't invade Ukraine. Also, the US said not an inch more NATO expansion eastwards and yet they did it. So who started the war? the US and NATO by lying to Ukraine that they will support, that the Russians are weak and stupid.
Then on 9th of March 2022 Putin signed a peace agreement asking only a safety guarantee for Russians in Donbas and Ukraine keeping their territories. Does that look like invasion to you? And why is there still war? Who started ths war and who continued it after the peace talks? USA did!
