@@alegitoctoling7496 Asgore will nod pitifully if you die more than 5 or 6 times, and if you die more than 9 times, it would be like this : "You told Asgore that he's killed you too many times to count before, he nods grievously"
Really deep character imo. In a fit of rage he promised to destroy the seal and make vengeance on humans..... but then regretted what he said... however, it was already too late as all hopes and dreams were placed unto him, so he couldn't allow himself to shatter their dreams and instead went along with it. So to postpone this, he made up the story that he needed 7 souls to break the seal hoping that day would never come. But it did. This is why he gives you that depressed/heartbroken look when he sees you the first time... almost as if he wanted to say oh no.. why is this happening. During the fight, when you tell him he killed you several times and he nods, it shows that he is aware of your determination ability (and why he was able to shatter your mercy button). Those 6 kids he killed before were like previous players who were "stuck" at Asgore and couldn't beat him.. and after who knows how many tries, those players basically gave up and stopped playing (i.e. those kids' determination ran out). So he doesn't carry a burden of killing 6 children.. he carries a burden of killing six children over and over and over and over again. He always drops you to 1hp before delivering the final blow, which shows he's holding back against you... the two burdens he carries, hopes for his people and the guilt of snuffing out previous lives are taking a toll on him and placed him in a very conflicting spot. He has to kill you, but he doesn't want it, causing him to fight like that. This is also why the determination of the previous children ran out, because it's very likely that at his full power they had absolutely no chance. And aside from that burden he has.. you also have that burden of not wanting to kill him, but also having to leave. Extremely tragic and heartbreaking battle. This is why he is my favorite character in this game.
When you tell Asgore how many times he's killed you, he responds by nodding sadly. Asgore couldn't know about the timelines and stuff like sans. He nods sadly because he thinks of the other children that fell down.
I just realized something super sad. His trident is red, the color of determination. He doesn't want to kill you, but he's determined to free his kingdom, his people, and he knows that this is the only route to take in order to do so. He's lost everything: his wife, his children, the war he never wanted, but he brings himself to care enough for the monsters he must free.
I just realized, how much the smallest things give life to this game. Everyone probably knows that, in the pacifist run, Toriel stops Asgore from fighting. Most of the players were probably confused, why didn't she do so in the neutral run. Because in the pacifist, you don't go straight up fighting Asgore, and you are busy with Alphys. So basically she is trying to do so also in the neutral, but she isn't fast enough. But because the true lab, takes your time, Toriel gets to catch up with you. And that's why she arrives to stop Asgore. We can just imagine, how Toriel arrived in the end of the neutral run, and saw just golden armor lying on the floor, and some dust around it.
Everyone always talks about Sans being somewhat aware of the checkpoint resets or whatever, but it's clearly stated Asgore knows he's killed you. Also, no other boss fight and theme has the same amount of sheer anguish and tragedy that Asgore's has. Even Toriel's doesn't really stand up compared to Asgore's.
That's because hes had to bear the curse of killing so many children. Undyne would have no remorse because shes got that personality but ashore doesnt want to fight.
I've always considered Toriel a hypocrite, who could've stopped Asgore, but left him instead. Indirectly, she's also responsible for the deaths of the previous humans.
Asgore: “I promise you for as long as you’re here...my wife and I will take care of you...” Me who accidentally killed Toriel in my first run: “Abooout that...”
That and also frisk is a child, so they don't know why. God damn Asgore, you must be so broken. Even though you're a fictional character, I feel so bad for him. He lost his wife, children, his people's respect and so much more to free his people.
I like how his battle Sprite looks like his breath is shaking, like he's trying not to cry while he does all this. The character Asgore is so sweet to me.. how could people ship Sans with Toriel and make this poor guy be a loner?
I don't understand, a person who killed 6 times CAN and WILL kill another time. If it was the first time he killed a human I would understand, but trying to go back on the seventh time?
@@Gamer-fz5gl that's kinda the whole point of the game in pacifist. Spoilers ahead. Does Asgore deserve mercy for killing those humans? Does Alphys deserve mercy for all the horrible experiments she did? Do Undyne and Papyrus deserve mercy for capturing the humans? Do Sans and Toriel deserve mercy for not fighting back against all that, specially when they were the most capable to? The game tells: Yes, they all do. I believe giving mercy for the characters was meant to be something else than pressing a button to get the happy ending, though.
@@Gamer-fz5gl I don't think he killed the humans Like seriously, do u really think that the humans WITHOUT determination could get past all of those monsters?
This fight has always been so good, like how instead being thrown into the fight you have a choice to go back, or how it gives a small text intro into the fight, or the best part that small pause after asgore destroyed the mercy button. I also love how the fight isnt just a bunch of spam, rather instead its actually attacks that you have to had played the game to be good at dodging at.
When you realize Asgore really doesn't want to fight you. He destroys the mercy option, not because you can pled mercy, but because he knows he knows he shouldn't get mercy for what he's doing. And when he makes attacks with his trident, those colored stars aren't his eye's, but tears. Lastly, did you notice that his attacks all follow a pattern, none of them are like a direct hit on you? It's because he can't bring it to himself to do something like that. Asgore really is an underrated character, wish the fans could see that, same with Toriel. Instead, all the fans get boners from Sans puns (-_-)
Agreed. He's behind a conflict in the story, but his actions create so many questions I have about him, because everyone makes him out to be a gentle guy. It's interesting about what motivated him to do what he did in the story until Frisk came along. He realized his sins, and Frisk helped snap himself out of it. This makes me wonder how the previous battles with the others fared; did they show mercy, too? O_o
AWJ★ I believe he did. Like he said, he doesn't want to hurt anyone. He just wanted to bring hope back to the monsters. Like he doesn't want to kill anyone, he just "needs to". Unfortunately that costed him his wife which is already sad enough because he obviously misses her so much. I feel as if Toriel still loves Asgore but she thinks that he's twisted and evil when really he isn't like that at all. He just wants to do whatever he can to bring hope back to the monsters (which btw is very noble of him if you think about it, him doing that costed him his wife). I just wish that the Undertale community can see that. Like honestly Asgore is such an underrated character. Everyone's favorite is like Sans, Undyne, ect. Like i get that everyone has their favorites, but Asgore is soooo underrated that he barley even gets any mentions in anything. Like in fanmade videos for example, every character is in it, even background characters that were only in the game for like 2 seconds were in it, but Asgore is sometimes not even in it. Unpopular opinion of mine, Asgore is my favorite. Damn, long ass comment.
I like to imagine that the trident attacks are like blind strikes; blue attacks would miss Frisk unless they move into the path of the weapon, while orange attacks would need to be dodged.
I noticed that on one attack, (when you need to dodge the bullet pattern, as well as occasional fire walls on either side,) the game warns you beforehand, instead of you needing to remember the pattern yourself. It’s like Asgore is trying to warn you, to give you a fighting chance.
Well Asgore doesn't want this to be fair on him, as he said he only wants to see his children again, he only wants to see his wife (Toriel). And when he looks upon you he is reminded of Chara the first fallen human which breaks his heart even more. He doesn't even care about the barrier the only thing that drove him after Toriel left is to finish what he started and to free his people.
Somethings I've noticed and heard over the years that really show how under rated this fight is: 1. Asgore destroys the mercy button, not to prevent you from sparing him... It's because he doesn't believe he deserves any mercy 2. His coloured attacks are cyan and orange from his eyes. They're tears. Blue water reflecting the firelight of his own magic. 3. None of Asgore's attacks are aimed directly at you or home in on you. He's casting fireballs and swinging his trident in your general direction. 4. Asgore doesn't flinch when you hit him. He's expecting you to strike, and almost welcomes it. It's clear how much he doesn't want to do this, but knows it's his duty as king. He's accepted either outcome of killing another human or finally being put to rest. You barely get any time with Asgore in game, but he's just as rich and deep as the rest of the cast.
Somebody else pointed out that he had to destroy the mercy button because his name has always been yellow throughout the entire game Ohwait lmao it's in this comment section
If anybody’s wondering, the opening theme to the fight is “Bergentrückung”, which is a common theme in folklore as a hero who awaits their glory in a mountain. The term is often translated to “King of the Mountain”.
A child who wants nothing more than to return home. A monster who wants nothing more than to avenge his people. This fight has no evil. No good. Just two people with two dreams worth fighting for.
I disagree with that statement, however I can see why you would think so. If you pay attention to his emotions he clearly regrets declaring war on humanity. Not disagreeing with the main poster.
I just noticed that his theme has hints of Toriel’s theme, resembling that he still cares about Toriel, but Toriel basically wants nothing to do with him
I'm just imagining the pain, the conflict, the depression that's going through Asgore's head in this battle. He holds his head down as if he doesn't want to even look at you or fight you. He's almost given up at this point. Asgore destroys the mercy button to lock *him* in the battle so you can end him. Put him out of his misery. Asgore drops his guard after you talk to him for a reason. Undyne wouldn't have done that. Mettaton wouldn't have done that. He, Asgore, feels full guilt for what he's done and is on the verge of giving up entirely. Asgore literally listens to your talking and observes your actions, especially with the familiar scent of the Butterscotch Pie, and he almost always gives responses to what you do or say.
@Manoj P I think it was the guilt of what he did to other other kid who fell down, the guilt is so hard that he think he deserves all of the hit, that why he alway stand firm
+Death 13th "You tell Asgore to stop fucking killing you. He stops, ponders, then impales you with his trident." GAME OVER: Shit man, I feel bad. Stay determined or some shit like that. Also how may times does it have to be before I get your soul?
When you think about it, he really is unable to force himself to look at you. His attacks are all over the place, and vaguely pointed in your direction. And even when he backs out for swipe attack... He isnt actualy looking at you. Those flashes are reflection of the twilight on his tears. As this only his attack that can be avoided by standing in it.
SliverEmperor He uses fire magic when fights you. A lot. Plus, look at the bottom of the screen. He propably "destroyed" your spare button's run function by setting up firewall in the entrance.
+Prime Tyrant i personally think that he destroyed the "MERCY" action button not to make sure you dont flee, but to make sure you are unable to spare him for what he's done...
I think the most haunting part of this fight is that for the first time in a true pacifist round the enemy doesnt talk, not even when you talk to him does he respond. Hell even when you hit him he doesn't flinch only until he falls which arguably it wasnt even him dying just him falling to his knee. Asgore has been wanting to be reprimanded, be stopped, or even die. Asgore doesn't enjoy killing innocent humans he just thinks its his job as an executioner. No other monster has even fought a human because Asgore only wants his hands to be marred with the blood of the innocent. I do believe all the people saying Asgore is way tougher than it shows simply because in this fight he has some of the most telegraphed moves in the game, and Undyne has said she cannot beat Asgore, but somehow you can.
So I just fought Asgore, and when I heard his voice I realized that the screen you get shown when you die is Asgore telling the original human that fell into the underground not to lose hope and to stay determined as they were dying from their illness.
Ye, It's a memoey when Chara was dying and Asgore was telling her/he to stay determined. So basically, Chara is giving u this memory to stay determined.
Realizing Asgore destroys the mercy button not to stop you from running away, but because he believes he doesn’t deserve mercy is one of the saddest realizations I’ve had playing a video game
@@comradezach8516it made me go oh shit on my first play through because I had blown all my gold buying health items to fight Mettaton so I was going into the Asgore fight with an empty inventors
Anyone notice his entire body shakes on his trident attack? "Asgore's hands tremble for a moment..." It all makes sense now. Asgore REALLY doesn't want to hurt you. So much so that he has tremors during the fight. That or he's just a spazz.
@Random Person Wait how is that asgore suicide if you kill flowey? You have a video? And i think that no one of his attacks go direct to frisk because him is looking down (i think is pretty obvious but i want to said that)
The game could have ended after this battle, and I would still be satisfied. Then the Flowey battle became a thing, and I was even more satisfied. Then I learned of the true final boss, and I was filled with satisfaction.
That intro to the fight, with his leitmotif playing in synchro with the text, is among the heaviest, most powerful moments of any game I've played. I love his character, morally grey, conflicted, bittersweet.
man asgore is my fave he actually gave you a chance to turn around and keep walking which is a small fragment of mercy. which most kings show NO mercy... :(
Actually no. He's basically like"You're about to die so if you have any thing you want to take care of so you won't regret not doing them in the afterlife you should probably go do that first"
+Ehm Shellars "I got this old pie from who knows how long I kept it with me. I'm just gonna eat it real quick." Asgore: Huh what...? Okay... *Attacks* Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet dunked on!!!!
I personally believe, that at the end, if you are a true pacifist and end up living with Toriel, she might let you hang with Mr. Goat Dad, drinking tea and doing gardening together
Yeah i mean Stat wise he is almost undyne the undying level and while yes he has Almost 7 times less HP undyne mentions he can Dodge hell the guy no hitted everything she tried and undyne attacks a Lot more in one turn than frisk does This means he probably doesnt only Dodge he has better reflexes than sans does and way more stamina to Dodge way longer Imaginé frisk Dodging all of those almost undyne the undying level attacks to tire asgore out after dozens of turns just to hit him and him losing 150 HP out of 3.500 ...... At LV1 or in general not potenciated by their hate
It’s depressing, Asgore is the only boss who not only waits for you to challenge him, but also asks if you want to do any last errands before their fight, trying to find any way to keep himself from sacrificing a small (relatively) innocent child
I think this is the best boss and the most emotive, the music, his fight position, makes me feel a feeling of melancholy and sadness about all we lived in the game
Guys I've realized something... The power to control fire, The tea, Being one of the strongest characters in their own rights, Having led an army in a war, Having lost his own (biological) son, Asgore is Iroh from The Last Airbender, no doubt about it
A random Blob the underground is frisks imagination and an every character is a picec of frisks mind toriel is kindness sans is laziness papyrus is energy undyen is justice alhys is intejence mettaton is glamor and asgore is fear ...and flowey asriel omega flowey and the god of hyperdeath are rage and chara is insanity
We dont have a choice asgore broke the mercy button so thats why we fight him even tho we dont wanna do it he wanted to free the monsters so thats why he broke the mercy button
I know it's a bit off the grid but I just saddens me that two people, who want to make friends and never wanted to fight, are forced to fight and kill each other to determine the fate of the world.
Fighting Asgore on a Pacifist run the first time around is the most emotional and heartbreaking battle in the game, I'd say more so than Asriel or Sans. This is the big guy that you've been hearing about for the longest time as being a peaceful, docile man who would gladly allow you passage without any issue. Then, shortly before you face him, Dr. Alphys confesses to you that you'll have to kill him in order to advance through the barrier. But your resolve isn't deterred. Somehow, you'll be able to spare him. Then, you meet him, he's courteous and kind, and obviously doesn't want to fight you. But you both head to the barrier and the fight commences. The final nail in the coffin is that he says his final words to you, bids you farewell, looks down, takes out his trident, and destroys your mercy function, disabling you from being able to spare him. He refuses to look at you at all, and, while you can plead with him to some extent, he won't, or rather can't, cease fighting. For the first time in the game, you have to fight, and it's against the last person you'd ever want to fight.
I refused to fight, I was willing to die over and over and over again, if I died enough, surely he'd put his trident down, since each of my deaths had to hurt him more than they hurt me
+Devin Shazare There's some interesting things that I noticed from bits of dialogue, too. Undyne comments she wasn't able to touch Asgore in many of their bouts, which made me think about that quip Sans gives you if you fucked up enough to fight him; "what, you think I'm just going to stand there and take it?" Asgore knows how to dodge your attacks. But unlike Sans, he wants to stand there and take it. Because that's what he thinks he deserves.
It’s really quite strange how this game takes advantage of it’s save/load mechanics. I have never, nor will I ever, see another game like this one, in its meta aspect.
Honestly my biggest regret is there’s no way to actually keep Asgore alive in neutral. No matter what Flowey will kill him and you’ll leave the underground. I wouldn’t mind an ending where you just stay there and become his adoptive child.
After I killed Toriel by accident (because she dies from one hit at the half HP mark) I kept the pie to remember her bye, as a good luck charm... and I even called her a few times on the phone because I hoped, for some reason, that this time she would pick up. And then, when I ran out of food during Asgore's fight, I forced myself to eat the butterscotch pie, the only thing I had besides the cellphone which was given to me by Toriel. And then, when I saw the notification saying Asgore's defenses and attack dropped because of a memory, I suddenly realized that he looked so similar to Toriel. And yet after the fight ended, I spared Asgore and he told me he and his wife could live together with us... But Toriel was dead... And I felt a mixture of relief and horror when Flowey cut him down... because now Asgore would not know I killed Toriel... so many emotional churns in such a short game...
+fl333r i killed toriel cause she seemed like she was just going to have me locked up forever, threatening to block my escape and shit, was i the only one who felt this?
+f45411 I killed her because I read that you may sometimes have to fight and make them weak then you can give them mercy... I only cried for like 10 days. (joking obviously)
+f45411 yeah I was scared of her initially. after meeting Flowey I expected her to betray me in a pretty hardcore way so when she died I was pretty surprised
I killed Toriel because I didn't fully understand the concept of "Mercy" in Undertale, I skipped the third frog that tells you that if a name is Yellow, you can spare him/her. So yeah, I cried.
* (A strange light fills the room) * (Twilight is shining through the barrier) * (It seems your journey is finally over) * (You're filled with DETERMINATION) I swear that part gets me every time.
Geez, he really isn't even trying. If you think about it, all the monsters say that Asgore is actually really powerful and no one ever got through him in a fight... Well, if u ask me, he really wasn't the big deal when u are the one fighting him. Maybe he was just tired of all the war bullshit and actually wanted you to end him for good.
Yep. He is pretty much asking you to kill him. He breaks the mercy button which is the only way for him to be spared, and he even tells you to take his soul.
The Sans fight is so hard because, unlike any other monsters, he knows how to dodge attacks. But then I always remember a line that Undyne said once, about how in sparring she could never land a hit on him. That implies that he also knows how to dodge, but is clearly just not even trying to in this fight because he wants to lose
+Johnny Casey Everyone you befriended: Oh Asgore will surely just talk it out with ya Me: Alright so just do what I've been doing? seems easy enough *meets Asgore* Me: He seems nice enough I'm sure if i just spare enough rounds- Asgore: Breaks the Mercy button Me: Y-You're not supposed to do that...
+Zeforas It's a powerful moment, everything points towards you having to kill Asgore, but the player is probably still determined (no joke intended) to be merciful. Besides, the same thing happened with Toriel, right? Except this time, what you did all the way back then gets destroyed right before your eyes, finally driving in the point that you HAVE to do what you couldn't do to anybody else in the run.
Is nobody gonna talk about how this was uploaded to RUclips 2 days after the initial release of undertale? That’s badass. I just started the game this year. Also, they never got past LOVE 1? Props.
I'm pretty sure the reason Toby never made a genocide Asgore fight is because he would've been literally unbeatable. Not only would his stats probably rise significantly, but he could also just destroy the FIGHT and ITEM buttons, leaving you with no weapons or means of healing. The only way I could imagine beating him like that is by using the ACT button to trick or manipulate him. Which now that I think about it, would've made for a pretty awesome boss fight. Then again, Toby probably wanted Sans to have the spotlight as the final boss. That, and throwing in another, equally hard fight right after Sans would've just been cruel lol
I remember reading something that said toby didnt want another super hard fight right after sans because the player would probably have used all their item's during the sans fight lmao
@@natykiffy6598 hmmm... ur lying. firstly, if you didnt laugh then why did u say "lmao" lol. and finally why did you even take the time to write this comment if it isnt funny? a normal person would just ignore it but u didnt. which shows that u really did laugh and ur hiding it just to look funny.
After all these years of perfecting the pacifist run I still will die over and over again to Asgore on purpose just to hear his theme and do the fight because it’s so fun to me. It’s so beautifully tragic, and the music is incredible
+ZanzaKlaus He's sympathetic at least. Like yes...what he is doing is terrible and he knows it. I mean he cant even bare to look at you during the fight. He's doing this because he is desperate and angry at what the humans did. He knows its wrong but he feels he has no other option.
The Bookieman Well, he has to do it. I think after killing 6 children he can barely take the strain on his conscience. He's clearly a pacifist, so this must hurt him a lot.
+ZanzaKlaus yeah I mean If I was king of a people who were slowly dying and trapped where we couldn't leave to change that, and I needed to kill just seven people from the jerkfaces who trapped us there, I would probably do it. He might have even been a little Gung Ho about it at first. But after 6 innocent deaths... Well, all of human war is about making the other side surrender first. It makes sense that monsters who feel emotions more than us would feel such guilt. Probably why the battle starts with him destroying mercy. If you could spare him, it would probably make the fight end up more like toriels. And if you could run away, would he be able to bring himself to run after you?
Poor asgore He couldn’t bring himself to do it, so he had someone do it for him Seriously, he looks surprised when he sees you, because he expected undyne to have killed you
The ways of Asgore in the 3 timelines! Neutral: Tries to kill you Pacifist: Tries to kill you Genocide: "Hello, uhh, Human!" "Would you like a cup of tea?"
Nah, it's not like that. He doesn't want to kill you in any timeline. Even more, in genocide run he doesn't recognize you as a human. No one does since Papyrus.
My version: Neutral: Doesn't want to kill you, but thinks he has to. True Pacifist: Same as Neutral, but soon realizes he doesn't have to. Genocide: Fails to recognize you as a human.
+Ezequiel Campos Undyne Thought You Aren't a Human Because You Killed EVERY monster And Even A Human Woudn't Do that , "i feel Everyone In the Worlds Hearts All Beating As One, And We All Have One Goal..... TO DEFEAT YOU" That is What Undyne Said BTW you aren't a Human.. In The Genocide Run ... You Are A Monster...
Did anyone else get an extra tear in their eye when they saw the mercy button stitched back together at the end? It's amazing how much a small idea can add if used right.
The fact that Asgore only notices you as a human in a pacifist/neutral run has a deeper meaning. If you play genocide, asgore doesn’t see you as human anymore. It also tells us that asgore also sees humans as kind and loving creatures, contradicting his oath to kill all of humanity
i feel really bad for asgore.like... all he wants is whats best for his people. he doesnt want to kill. he just wants peace. heck, judging by how everyone but toriel in-game views him... hes a good king. actively helping his people when he can...you dont even see any servents in his castle, if you can call it that. this is a king who works for the people. people dont bow to this guy. they hug him. they dont fear him. they trust him to do the right thing. even looking at his sprite in his battle... you notice he is hiding his face. he doesnt WANT to see the light leave your eyes. heck, his pre-battle speech shows how reluctant he is to kill you. i honestly dont have the heart to finish the big lug.
I love battle theme the most. It has so much sadness in it. And I noticed the pace of the fight picking up. Asgore really doesn't want to draw this out. When it becomes clearer and clearer that you won't kill him and end his suffering, he decides to kill you and at least end the monsters' suffering.
You know, he could have destroyed your Fight button instead. But he didn’t want you to be defenseless as he killed you. He wanted to either kill you in glory, or die a martyr. Frisk shows him another way, but Flowey says no to all of them.
I played undertale with this mentality. "You give me a bunch of fun puzzles to solve on how to not kill my enemy, say no more. No on will get killed. This is after all a game where "no one has to die". When I got to asgore i died repeatedly. I spent a long time trying to figure out how to spare him. Finally a friend watched me play and said "you have to kill asgore.". I was like "Nahhhhh thats not possible. I was told no one had to die in this game and I'm going to make sure thats exactly what happens. But it did slowly dawn on me as the number of times Asgore killed me rose... I was going to have to kill him. I actually stopped playing for a while. Kinda felt like "Im not going to do it. If i have to kill Asgore he can kill me. Take my soul. And break the barrier. I wont kill him. My friend pestered me to finish the game. I was content having my dying to asgore be the end of the story for me. But my friend persisted. Made sure I went back. It took me quite some time. As i didnt habe any good weapon for attacking. Since I never killed anyone, I never worried about combat. took me forever. But finally beat him. Thats when I found out he didnt avtually die and you could spare hime after the fight. Grr. Then Flowy showed up. Suffice to say.... you lied to me Toby Fox...
Well since he doesn’t really die, you weren’t lied to. And since you tried so hard to figure out how to not have to kill him, ultimately coming to the conclusion that Asgore WON’T let you Mech him, the fight had its intended effect.
I've never played undertale in my life, but this literally made me shed a tear, not only that, it made me sob uncontrollably like a child that just lost their mom in a grocery store, this game is so amazing and it should be classified as a wonder of the world!
I don’t know if you’re broken or have never experienced true sadness in your life and your soul yearns for it. Either way i hope you find peace within yourself
Bergentrucküng means excavation, or digging down. I think this is why: He didn't want to kill those children, he just wanted his people to have hope. But by doing so, he dug himself into a metaphorical pit of sadness and now feels so ashamed he destroys the MERCY button, believing someone like him has gone too far down to deserve mercy. Poor Fluffybuns
I typed bergentruckung on google translate and thought it was indonesian and it was Norwegian and in Indonesian it means “clap” but in Norwegian its just bergentruckung -_-
Bergentrückung means in folklore “a hero who awaits their glory in a mountain” in layman’s terms it’s basically meant to say in translation “King of the Mountains” if anyone is wondering how I got this then go to the comment that is talking about the same thing I am talking about...then you’ll find it!

You know why he destroys the MERCY button?
Because his name would immediately turn yellow.

I just realized something super sad. His trident is red, the color of determination.

@@Gamer-fz5gl I don't think he killed the humans
Like seriously, do u really think that the humans WITHOUT determination could get past all of those monsters?
Instead, all the fans get boners from Sans puns (-_-)
my thoughts exactly

Somethings I've noticed and heard over the years that really show how under rated this fight is:
1. Asgore destroys the mercy button, not to prevent you from sparing him... It's because he doesn't believe he deserves any mercy

Oh man, so many feels in this game!

*Asgore destroys the mercy button*
...Items?
Man. When he destroys the mercy button. I teared up. So self sacrificial and noble for his cause.
I refused to fight, I was willing to die over and over and over again, if I died enough, surely he'd put his trident down, since each of my deaths had to hurt him more than they hurt me
What if the reason he destroyed the mercy button is because he doesn't think he deserves mercy?
+Devin Shazare There's some interesting things that I noticed from bits of dialogue, too. Undyne comments she wasn't able to touch Asgore in many of their bouts, which made me think about that quip Sans gives you if you fucked up enough to fight him; "what, you think I'm just going to stand there and take it?"
Asgore knows how to dodge your attacks. But unlike Sans, he wants to stand there and take it. Because that's what he thinks he deserves.
ASGORE: human, it was nice knowing you.
Frisk: ...
TORIEL: stop touching the child!!!
+TheTerrariaPro - Terraria and more! Toriel: don't touch the child!
+Chara Dreemurr (THE FALLEN CHILD) who's touching the child?!

+D'Andre Carter yeah i bet you cried for 11 days you pansy

Omega flowey: *no*
This is such an iconic fight. Asgore is doing what he must for his people despite not wanting to. His theme is incredible
Imagine fighting him during the war.
You probably whouldnt stand a chance against his *royal fury.*
@@bishopspechulure9821 holy shit I now I wat a full power asgore fight tbh
Bishop Spechulure and it’s also in genocide, where sans knows exactly what you are, a murderer, so he doesn’t hold back
I just shitted my pants when asgore teared out mercy.

*meets Asgore*
Me: He seems nice enough I'm sure if i just spare enough rounds-
Asgore: Breaks the Mercy button
Me: Y-You're not supposed to do that...
+Johnny Casey And begins to approach you with the Spear of Longinus.
Either he did it because he didn't want you to run, or he didn't believe he deserved to be spared.

Is nobody gonna talk about how this was uploaded to RUclips 2 days after the initial release of undertale? That’s badass. I just started the game this year. Also, they never got past LOVE 1? Props.
I am at level 19 on my first playthrough of undertale. You know what that means.
It's because nutural always be the first route.
Love 1 is simply short for Level of [Spoilers].
it was a pacifist route. the only time you need to hit someone was asgore.
edit:i forgot there was no pacifist asgore.
Cultured /Non-Cultured person yeah I’m really surprised propels were doing pacifist route day two
I'm pretty sure the reason Toby never made a genocide Asgore fight is because he would've been literally unbeatable.
Well the player pretty much wouldve deserved it at that point
There's a fangame where that exact scenario happens
It was a hugely missed opportunity to not show Asgores true power
you better not have been keeping an EYE on me
I remember reading something that said toby didnt want another super hard fight right after sans because the player would probably have used all their item's during the sans fight lmao

After all these years of perfecting the pacifist run I still will die over and over again to Asgore on purpose just to hear his theme and do the fight because it’s so fun to me. It’s so beautifully tragic, and the music is incredible
Asgore as a character gets tons of flack, but I really like him. Really tragic if you think about it.
+ZanzaKlaus
Asgore recieves flack?
metaXzero Well, from the characters.
+ZanzaKlaus yeah I mean
If I was king of a people who were slowly dying and trapped where we couldn't leave to change that, and I needed to kill just seven people from the jerkfaces who trapped us there, I would probably do it.
3:48 You could not have asked for a more fortuitous moment to loop the song.
Poor asgore
He couldn’t bring himself to do it, so he had someone do it for him
Seriously, he looks surprised when he sees you, because he expected undyne to have killed you
Actually,Undyne killed me like 200000000 times soo....
@@amerdeeba9775 they meant neutral and pacifist undyne, not genocide
This is a fight that no matter what you do, nobody truly wins :(
The ways of Asgore in the 3 timelines!
Neutral: Tries to kill you
Pacifist: Tries to kill you
Genocide: "Hello, uhh, Human!" "Would you like a cup of tea?"
Nah, it's not like that. He doesn't want to kill you in any timeline. Even more, in genocide run he doesn't recognize you as a human. No one does since Papyrus.
My version:
Neutral: Doesn't want to kill you, but thinks he has to.
In The Genocide Run

Asgore : like a family
Me : :")
Flowey : "kills asgore"
Me : NOOOOOOOO!!! >:"(
i feel really bad for asgore.like... all he wants is whats best for his people. he doesnt want to kill. he just wants peace. heck, judging by how everyone but toriel in-game views him... hes a good king. actively helping his people when he can...you dont even see any servents in his castle, if you can call it that. this is a king who works for the people. people dont bow to this guy. they hug him. they dont fear him. they trust him to do the right thing. even looking at his sprite in his battle... you notice he is hiding his face. he doesnt WANT to see the light leave your eyes. heck, his pre-battle speech shows how reluctant he is to kill you. i honestly dont have the heart to finish the big lug.
+supersmashbro596 It's very sad, the slow parts in his theme reflect all of his remorse.
infact, killing the children was like, a million knives right on his heart.
That's a concept for Genocide Asgore but in genocide Asgore is one hit.
if use toriel pie as a healing item ,it will lower asgore power even further
kyuuibi rasagen no it doesn't it does the same as talking 3 times in the first battle
um yes it does. Try it. It evens says the smell reminds him of something. so yea

After the neutral ending you can go for a true pacifist ending tho
Well since he doesn’t really die, you weren’t lied to. And since you tried so hard to figure out how to not have to kill him, ultimately coming to the conclusion that Asgore WON’T let you Mech him, the fight had its intended effect.
But you don’t kill him. Does your EXP go up when you beat him? No. Therefore you didn’t kill him, so he really didn’t lie.
faye That's only in the Pacifist ending
Sorry dude, but you got the neutral ending :T not the pacifist ending, that is if your goal was the pacifist ending
I've never played undertale in my life, but this literally made me shed a tear, not only that, it made me sob uncontrollably like a child that just lost their mom in a grocery store, this game is so amazing and it should be classified as a wonder of the world!

Bergentrucküng means excavation, or digging down. I think this is why:
He didn't want to kill those children, he just wanted his people to have hope.
