Alan Arkin has done some phenomenal work in films. I don’t think I have ever seen him in a bad roll. One I think you would probably enjoy is 2017 “going in style” with Morgan Freeman, Michael Cain and Alan Arkin. But his stuff from the 70’s-80’s is also very good.

The reason Grandpa doesn't remember Dwayne's name is because he's the mom's son from a previous marriage. At the dinner table when they're talking about beauty pageants, they say Dwayne visited his dad. So they're not blood related, and the grandpa has only lived with them a short while after getting kicked from Sunset Manor.

For quite some time, if anyone sat in the front passenger seat, the horn would continuously go off until they got out😂😂 No1 seemed to be able to figure it out so I believe the final ‘fix’ decision was to completely disable the horn😳😱🤣
Of course, none of it was cool or funny as a high school kid. If I only knew then…🥲

    Trivia for Little Miss Sunshine:
    1. Released in 2006, co-directed by husband and wife Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, written by Michael Arndt.
    2. Nominated for 4 Oscars in 2006: Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Alan Arkin as Grandpa Edwin), Best Supporting Actress (Abigail Breslin as Olive), and Best Original Screenplay (Michael Arndt). It won in two categories - Michael Arndt for writing, and Alan Arkin won in a slight upset for Supporting Actor.
    3. In order to write the script, Michael Arndt had to quit his job as a personal assistant to Matthew Broderick (who played Ferris Bueller).
    4. Alan Arkin had an incredible 38 years between nominations at the Oscars, and this was his "comeback" of sorts in his early 70s. He passed away on June 29 of this year.
    5. When filming first began, the production team didn't want Steve Carell at first because they thought he didn't have enough name recognition. But as filming was going on, The 40 Year Old Virgin and the TV show "The Office" were released, and both were so popular that they asked him to promote it.
    6. Bill Murray and Robin Williams were originally considered for the role of Frank. Character actor Thomas Haden Church (whom I don't think James has seen yet) turned down the role of Richard, which he later said was a huge mistake.
    7. Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris previously directed the music video for the hit song "1979" by Smashing Pumpkins.
    8. Abigail Breslin was really listening to music during Grandpa Edwin's curse-laden rant.

So there was a lot of things I didn't learn that others did and even things that I had to double learn because I went to a different school, but it was still required. I had to redo French and re-learn the same things in it as well because my middle school taught language, then we moved and it was required in my High School as well. Certain schools have the same teaching goals as well but they teach it in a different way or use different teaching resources. For instance, there are certain books people are required to read in English class but other schools use different books to teach the same lessons. I've had friends say they were required to read certain books I never had to read, but I had at least heard the titles of them before. People forget that others learn in different ways, have different teachers, or are from different school districts in different states or countries.

I had a brother whose dream was to join the Coast Guard...but in his late teens he learned that being legally blind in one eye (he suffered lazy eye as a child) meant he was not an acceptable candidate. On the water, you need two functioning eyes; you can get injured in one eye at any time, so having only one good eye put the ship and crew in jeopardy. And that was before considering he also had red/green colorblindness and dyslexia. So I totally understand Dwayne's dilemma.
So many amazing actors in this film. You mentioned some, but there was also Toni Collette (she was in "The Sixth Sense") and Greg Kinnear (who was in the Harrison Ford remake of "Sabrina" and costarred with Jack Nicholson in "As Good As It Gets"), and little Abigail Breslin (who was in "Signs" and "Ender's Game").

    ESSAY TIME!!
I watch reactions simply for the sheer variety of humanity.
I live in the 'burbs so I think the lifestyles here can afford a bigger slice of attention to outward appearances. Just like Jack said, Rose looks like an indoor kinda girl.
The first beauty pageant I saw that I remember was hardly much memory-wise. I was impressed by one lady during an interview section. All the contestants sat pretty with legs crossed at the ankles in a row. The one lady that impressed me the most was answering ALL questions, sitting back and legs crossed at the knees. Some of the other ladies were lucky IF they could an answer in. I like the talent portions as well. I haven't made any effort to keep up though. Beauty pageants are shallow enough for me to forget them.
I'm aghast at child pageants too. They should be playing tag or something.
Mom was married before and Dwayne is the child from THAT marriage. Grandpa is only Olive's grandpa.

I didn't find out until I applied for a job, past all the selection tests, got tested before signing the contract and they said they couldn't accept me bc I was partially colorblind.. To this day, sometimes I'm still thinking about that, wondering what if I'm not colorblind and got that job, bc it was a good career opportunity in a big company.. oh well.. 😅

I have always dyed my hair because I love how it makes me feel. Its like it wakes up parts of my personality. I do it for the same reason I got tattooed and pierced my nose - not because I care what anyone thinks, but because they make me feel more like myself. I don't know how to better explain it.

The tail end of the video is why I could never be offended by any opinion of yours ( in which I agree in this case with the pageants because I find them very VERY creepy ) since you reiterate that it's not coming from some malicious place and it's just your opinion and shouldn't be a big deal to someone who doesn't know you personally.

James…I grew up in Cleveland and we didn’t have cable til the 90’s I think. I moved away by then. We however had a movie house a couple blocks away. My mom also loved movies and going to the drive in. We would pile a bunch of family kids in and go.
But we went to the library regularly and would walk out with as much as we could carry. The rest of the time we played board games or just played outside.
So despite the time and longitude (similar latitudes 😉) we grew up similarly! 😁

33:22 It's actually not uncommon to find out that you're colorblind in your teens. I was 17 when I found out in Driver's Ed. You tend to assume that the way you precieve the world is the way everyone preceives it, and never bother questioning little things that don't seem to matter. Why'd my brother call that toybox green? Must've been a weird lighting thing. Why can't I tell the red team from the green team in my game? I've got bad eyesight, of course I can't tell them apart. It's only obvious in retrospect
