Can you help me I have a cuestión for you can you help out how to charge for 1700sqf of Quarry tile Epoxy grout please let me i really appreciate your help
Pro tip: when I grind floor of thinset or for leveling purposes, I use same grinder, same shroud and cup wheel and similar vacuum. Obviously you have a Type e dust bag in the vacuum for fine dust. But whatvi do differently is take a large size HEPA filter bag cut open one side along the edge and wrap it around the filter inside my vacuum and do that again. 2 HEPA filters wrapped around the vacuum filter held down with zip ties. You will not have any dust flying around. The HEPA filter bags can be removed and blown out with an air gun or washed and reused. The vacuum filter can be blown out from within and or washed and reused. And just toss the filter bag when full. My $100 vaccum is cheaper and more effective than one of these $1,200 agitating filter system vacuum.
Why not just hook up a long hose to the exhaust on the vacuum. No need for filters. Just make sure hose is long enough to reach outside to a safe location.
@@kevingerhardt3478but your going to throw all the dust and debris which ends up around your neighborhood. My neighbor grinds things and all the dust lands on the leaves of trees.
Well done Miss, as a tiler or any finish trade, attention to detail, is everything, or should be! As an older (59y/o) second generation tiler who has been out of the game since 2008 I found this method and products interesting. Not sure if they are used here in Australia, However the reasons and principles behind its use are used albeit with different products. I am about to renovate our own Bathroom, Laundry and toilet within the month so I shall be digging out the tools and preparing my knees, back etc for combat! As I have told my clients in the past , the most important work I will do for you, is the stuff you don't see. Again, Bravo! Cheers!
Do you have to use ditra on a single story concrete foundation in bathrooms? Or is it a preference. Asking in terms of a DIY home project, not in terms of a company installer.
This is insane. Use an upright diamond grinder, OnFloor, Edco, Lavina, etc. and start with 18 or 30 grit tools. Use a HEPA vacuum because silica fine dust gets in your sinuses and lungs, and on all surfaces and in vents.
Honestly, how can any man say no on a job to this woman. She could come to my home and want to charge me 50 grand to do my bathroom floor and I would say yes Lol.
I understand the concept of a decoupling membrane, but is it really necessary when tiling over concrete that is many years old and shows no signs of cracking problems? I'd think it's just an extra precaution but an expensive one, also need to factor in the extra floor height. I suppose you also have to consider product/installation warranty issues..
I swear a lot of tile people don't do good prep on the concrete or whatever they are laying tile on. If there's a quarter-inch of thinset stuck to the concrete they just go over it and you get a floor that's a quarter-inch taller. It's pretty frustrating. Another frustrating thing is when they tile directly over linoleum flooring. You end up with the same thing - a taller floor. Now when your dishwasher breaks you can't pull it out! Nice to see you do it the right way!
Excellent video. Tiling my kitchen floor after removing wood parquet atop vinyl flooring. The vinyl glue was a mess to remove (scraped, paint remover) and had no floor grinder. My concrete slab had several cracks which I filled with cement patching compound. Then poured self-leveling cement (had to screed a bit). Even then, after applying Strata Mat (small V-notch trowel), I noticed a few low spots, which I filled with thinset mortar. Using large format tile w/ 1/2" square notches, giving thick mortar lines which I hope will compensate for any additonal waviness. An advantage of Strat Mat is you can tell if you get good coverage underneath using grey thinset (modified) since it changes color from white to dark when fully touching. With Ditra, you should lift a corner to verify full coverage.
This is the best video I have viewed so far regarding laying my own tile! Your explanations as to what to do but also why to do it really is well done! Thank you!
Hi I'm tiling my garage floor, but I'm not sure, I've got low points and its very uneven, can I just tile over the cement concrete lol I'm stuck..suggestions please...thanks again
Planning to instsll a ceramoc tile on our painted cement front porch, is there any way not to sand the floor and just use any chemicals to remove the paint?
One quick question, you are using knee pads on the wet thinset to roll the DITRA down for a firm bond. Won't the knee pads cause uneven areas in the thinset?
My concrete floor is not level. My contractor says that because of this, I can only use small tiles. I don’t understand why we can’t level it. Can I hire you?
@@ThatTileChick Given the age of that slab and it's condition, there is no need for concern and the uncoupling membrane is an extra, very unnecessary expense. The slab is fully cured and properly supported as evidenced by it's age. You DON'T need a membrane on all concrete floors.

Question: I’m putting pebble titles in my apartment hallway, and yes the sub floor is cement. Can this technique also apply to pebble tiles??? Asking because is sooooo east to follow
Hey! I don't believe you can use Schluter Ditra for pebble tiles. I would check with the manufacturer specs before doing so. You can however follow the steps in this video and use something called redguard. Its a roll on which acts as an antifracture membrane as well.
I had a tile installer come do tile over concrete. Not even 4 months later many tiles are moving under our feet. What do we do? As time goes on, more tiles are doing this. Tile guy said it was the grout we had and won’t fix it. Another tile guy came out to assess and said it was the first tile guy’s application, lack of good prep, and not mixing mortar correctly. Thoughts? Lots of money down the drain…including our shower drain, which he also tiled our shower and grout is cracking.
Has any tiles come up that you can see the back of yet? I am almost positive its poor/sub standard prep and install. Tile over concrete should last even if there is no uncoupling for a good amount of time and in most cases people never have problems if the tile is installed correctly. They definitely did a poor job. I am so sorry to hear that.
You recommended me to this channel like a week ago (on a group on facebook when i asked a question) and I'm watching all these videos. We have a tile showroom but I really don't know anything about installation and my knowledge on tile and flooring is super limited. It makes it hard at times. Just wondering...is the sanding in the beginning to level the floor as much as possible? Does everyone do that? And also how do you get your cuts perfect around the trim, doorways, tub surrounds, etc? Thanks for the videos!
yes sanding the floor is always a good idea and even better if you have a few high spots in the room. Each project is different and will require different steps depending on the issues. Do you mean my cuts on the membrane? I just used a scissor. Hope this helps
I'll never forget the day I went into Home Depot and asked for Schluter Ditra and they were dumbfounded, has never heard of it and didn't know what I was talking about... Unbelievable...
Yep it’s unfortunate but you need to go to a place like Floor and Decor or Lowes. The manufacturers of these products sell through distributors and not always through retail unfortunately
My local Home Depot carries a different brand (Redguard Mat I recall), but quite pricey and would have needed four 54 ft2 rolls with more waste. Same for Lowes, which had Ditra. Instead, I bought a 170 ft2 roll of Strata Mat via Amazon (almost no waste) for half the price, but had to wait 1.5 wks for delivery.
Yay!! So glad I found this! I'm putting tile (on a slab) at the front entryway. I'm nervous about to prep the cement and do it right! Thsnks for your video!
Concrete will crack, doesn't matter how old it is . How it is poured and worked at the time of pouring have everything to do with its strength and longevity. So why the added expense of an uncoupling membrane on a slab that is years old and fully cured and is in perfect condition?
slabs crack. The uncoupling stops the cracks from transferring to the tile.
