@@zev2x762 I don’t mind the idea of boosting, but it would’ve been more effective if it was earned for mastering the art of platforming, rather than activated by a singular button. Sonic Advance 2 and 3 did it, though it didn’t let you be invincible that way.
Didn't they though? I mean I also want to see it make a return, but Heroes, Shadow, and 06 were all interesting iterations of the formula, and each of them had a lot of great ideas. I mean I'm glad we have the boost formula, but we all know about the unfortunate backlash from 06.
I love how much more panicked the GUN officers sound in City Escape! Adds some real emotion to the scene. And I love how Sonic actually "responded" to them in the beginning!
So far I've only seen City Escape, but personally I think my biggest issue with this is the speed. The levels were designed with Sonic's original speed in mind, so without making the size of the level bigger (or Sonic smaller) to compensate, it looks like the momentum causes certain parts to not flow as well (extremely overshooting item bubbles, overshooting one spot that he's obviously stopped by an invisible wall, overshooting ring trails meant for light dash, the Gold GUN Beetle disappearing due to Sonic flinging so high he didn't have a chance to really attack, etc), on top of the fact that when Sonic gets launched pretty high you notice a lot more of the level design people aren't meant to notice because it breaks the illusion with missing walls and other scenery because, in the original, you wouldn't be seeing things from those angles most of the time in normal circumstances. Everything else seems amazing, between new routes, graphics upgrades, and new sound effects. But either the level needs to be altered to accommodate the new speed, or Sonic's speed needs to be reverted back to what it was in the original game.
The timing worked out perfectly with coming upon the familiar part of the level as the extended intro of the track was ending and the familiar intro was beginning.
Though I did notice the soundtrack sounds really compressed in the video. Not sure if it was the way the video was recorded though as Green hill Zone? on the Amy version actually sounded right. I hope it's just the recording though. Really love when audio uses the full soundstage of your headphones or speakers.

I think the one thing I really like is the updated animations, those look pretty cool. Everything else though I'm iffy about.
Exactly my thoughts. Ignoring the obvious bugs/lack of sound tuning, the sounds are all over the place and don't fit the soundtrack from SA2 and are extremely annoying mainly in City Escape. The physics are too fast for SA2 levels which can most likely allow you to do tons of level skips (or just die falling off the map lol). And the new level paths (or whatever those are called), a few of those are nice (like the Piramid entrance) but there are also some of them that are just random clutter to the levels. IMO this would be a great mod if they just tweaked the levels layout with "new" physics in mind (if the modders really want to keep it) and removed those random sound effects + voice lines.
Honestly if they were to change the voice clips they should've taken them from Heroes seeing as each VA that transitioned from SA2 to Heroes improved on their characters and sound better than their 4kids VAs.
I really like some of the expansions to levels, but fully agree on the sounds. The amount of dialogue and voice lines in City Escape was very distracting. I'd like to see more textures updated rather than messing with so many sound qualities.
I agree and it's blowing my mind how many people are praising these aspects. This is in the same vein as Ocarina of Time on Unreal Engine to me. 36:00 Sonic driving the legendary BMW M3 GTR from Need For Speed Most Wanted? Incredible, one of my dreams finally come true. Honestly I have not seen much of this mod but I really liked it a lot, except for one thing and that is that they have put the voice of Jason Griffith to Sonic in this mod. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against his voice, but I prefer to play Sonic Adventure 2 with Ryan Drummond's voice, although I also prefer to play Shadow with Jason Griffith's voice. I just hope they also add an option to change character voices.

Words can't express my amazement by this project! SA2 is near and dear to my heart. All of the advancements to the levels, especially the prison break and 4:25 all those blimps saying Maria? Truly brilliant.
Green Forest was the best stage to really complement the speed of this character mod. If they tone back the speed a tad to where you don’t over shoot parts of the level then it will be right in pocket.
It is good for speed runs but I do see your point for newbies it would be something to get accustomed to . I'd personally hate to over shoot a spin and jump just to miss an important spring or trail of rings
This is how you remake a classic. This looks phenomenal with what has been done. The character models, new animations, music, little things here and there. If the textures were updated it would make this game really sparkle.
10 minutes I'm so far and this is lovely! Edit: I really like all the small changes all over the place. Edit2: Really feels like a "Hold my beer" kind of mod. Edit3: When you hit that Chao that sent chills down my spine. You did the world a service. Edit4: Skyrail blew my mind...
I have to appreciate some of Sonic's expressions here, mostly in the truck section of City Escape (2:41 is where it's most obvious). It's kinda neat that even with the modern model he can still look just as expressive as he used to. I also have to appreciate the running animation, the way he not only follows through with each step but overshoots each as well. It just has so much power and velocity to it, yet it remains smooth. Reminds me of the pre-rendered cutscenes in Sonic 06.
Sonic Adventure 2 was one of my favorite games as a kid, and is still one of my favorite games of all time. Watching this hit me with a massive wave of nostalgia. This looks absolutely phenomenal!! I would kill to play a Sonic Adventure 2 remaster that looks like this!
I can never put into words the amount of excitement and pure joy that possesses me whenever I see the City Escape sequence... This was definitely not an exception!!
As a whole I find this incredible. Those level modifications look almost like they fit with the original game for the most part. Only a few nitpicks I have about it. First is that while the majority of the texture work looks fantastic, there's a few areas like the outside of the pyramid on Pyramid Cave and the box room on Final Race looked off. Second are a few level mods looked a bit outlandish and probably hard to replicate consistently like the lightspeed dash near the end of White Jungle. I'd say White Jungle was honestly one of the sloppier works from what I saw. It is without a doubt impressive, but I think they went a bit overboard with throwing stuff in it. Lastly is that I noticed a lot of the new additions have very little to back you up if you fail. Most of them seem to be a hail marry risk jump with no punishment other than death. It's an issue people already have with Adventure 2, but I think a lot of the level changes seem to exacerbate this. Not every mistake should be a death, but they should be punished. Something I think they should watch.
I remember playing Sonic Adventure 2 when it came out and thinking it was the first time that what made 2D sonic gameplay successful was accurately translated to 3D. This takes it to the next level and continues to refine that success. Absolutely awesome.
a lot of this level wasn't designed for this increased speed, causing a lot of janky interactions where sonic hits a wall or the level barrier just by taking a normal jump
Also, having watched more into it, I can safely say that this mod is AMAZING. Once they iron out the kinks and polish out some of those weird physics issues, this might very well become the definitive way to play SA2. I look forward to seeing the completed form of this mod. Pretty damn hype adding extra avenues and things to explore.
I dont even know what to say, but this feels.... off. Basically like doing a fan remake of SA 2, with all the caviets that come with it. Theres stuff i like, stuff i dont, and stuff that just leaves me with more questions than answers. Its ambitious, maybe too much so. Its crazy that all this is just built ontop of SA 2, when it almost looks like its running in the sonic infinity engine or something
Agreed. I don't like Sonic's running animation. He used to jog and flail his hands while running, then once he builds momentum, he starts running with his hands behind him. Same for Shadow.
There's a lot in this mod that I really like, there s also a lot that I really don't like. I love a lot of the level additions like the new ring trails and alternate routes. I like the new openings for skyrail and Metal harbor. A lot of it is really good. But I think sonic is too fast. It breaks the flow of the levels and just seems clunky in a lot of areas. I also think they went a little overboard with some of the levels. Metal Harbor just has way too much on going on. I also hate how they got rid of the ending with the rocket and the skating. I also don't like the new ending to white jungle. It just seems clunky. Same with the new intro to Pyramid Cave. Overall there's a lot of good here. But it definitely needs to be refined and have some of the fat trimmed
YOOOOOOOOOO!!!! THE BMW!!!!! THATS CRAZY!!!!!!! I wonder how tf end up in the sonic world..... Imagine that in a future update, Shadow would drive the Ford Mustang or the Chevrolet Corvette 😵😵😵😵😃😃😃😃
There's so much I can say obviously. I'll keep it short: shadows run animation is the best I've seen. I love his super long strides. Also I love how you included voice clips from all the eras of sonic! Hearing some sonic 06 voice clips makes me happy 😊
There's no way someone thought of putting the NFSMW MC's car in kart mode LMAO This mod is a work of art! I loved all the new paths included, but my favorite has to be the prison break sequence in Metal Harbor, omg that was a genius idea
I just played SA2 today and it was SOOOO hype to see how many new pathways were in lvls like city escape metal harbor, and pyramid cave. The remixes were so hype, I felt like I was being possessed🥴
Jaw dropped on the opening of Metal Harbor. And that Sky Rail scenery change is amazing. Not sure why Sega hasnt brought back or done something with the Pumpkin Hill/Sky Rail/Aquatic Mine/Red Mountain area in later games or even some kind of cool horror game in that setting. I've always love the aesthetic of it
Great job showing off this mod! You taking the time to post incredibly skilled looking runs is why I stay and watch until the end. I'm from Miami and I saw that 600 points says "Fire." It didn't always say Fire right? They added that because it's modern? I realized I can't handle my Sonic's slang NOT being very outdated.
I like the well kept tradition of doing tricks off of the ramps and missing the power ups in City Escape while not really understanding why, but now with the twist that you far overshoot them rather than falling short. 😂
This is an incredible expansion. I have no other way to say it. The fact that you all managed to expand the original SA2 formula to this degree is mind blowing. Legit, I cannot stress enough how damn impressive this is! From the day to night transition of City Escape to the expansion on Metal Harbor and White Jungle and Sky Rail, I'm at a loss for words. Me and a friend of mine were literally talking yesterday about how the fan community for Sonic is so ravenous and arguably knows what to do with Sonic and crew better than Sega in a lot of cases and this just goes to show it. Major kudos on this achievement! Also, as much as I love Sonic, literally since way back in '92, Shadow just has such a cool factor around him that can't be ignored or set aside. The Boom memes about his coolness will never not be true, they nailed his character from the start and he needs a prominent role in the franchise again so badly.
Seeing those extra grind rails on the tops of the ringed tunnels in Green Forest was so satisfying. Its so easy to bounce yourself to the top of those and having a rail there is such a save instead of the awkward stumble to go forward again.
I had my observations regarding some small aspects of the mod/overhaul. Some things I would've weighed before trying this out... And then Sonic driving the M3 happened. I no longer have any observations. This is the best mod/overhaul ever.
The love put into this, every change seems good. That being said I’m not at the controller, but the camera angles and sa1 style intros to the level are gorgeous. The lasers on Crazy Gadgets makes me nervous tho

I don't know if this was intentional but the beginning of vanilla Metal Harbor syncing up to the beginning of the vanilla Metal Harbor music at 6:44 was amazing
I think it is, which just makes it so much cooler
The sync in Final Rush when he fell down the tiwer and hit the rail gave me a sense of enotion I can't explain
After all these years SA2 is still fantastic. And this just enhances it.
@BeachPenny Productions Yeah, it’s still fantastic with Sonic and Shadow… The rest of the game is not so great…
@@wilfriedsee3141 their music in the stages are amazing the very least. Pumpkin Hill being an S tier song
Still better than any of the modern Sonic games tho, let's be real here. @@wilfriedsee3141
Never ceases to amaze me how much a gem the sonic adventure series was. the inspiration and clever redesigns make this so refreshing
This looks incredible! The reimagined levels gives you more exploration similar to sonic adventure 1 and the remixes are a nice touch. I also like how they extended the levels by adding little story segments at the start of levels.
Sonic driving an e46 M3 gives me all the best kind of nostalgia for my early high school years 2001-2003 when the Dreamcast and reading car magazines was my whole life.
San Francisco Zone district be advised. we're receiving numerous reports of a 10-50 suspect, northbound, near Radical Highway. all units in the vicinity, please respond.
@@Transylvestite Any more details on that car?
@ suspect is driving a silver BMW
1:12 that is absolute authenticity right there
35:57 - Nine Thou Superstar Remix just started playing in my head right now
Words can't express my amazement by this project! SA2 is near and dear to my heart.
All of the advancements to the levels, especially the prison break and 4:25 all those blimps saying Maria? Truly brilliant.
The added BMW GTR in the kart racing singlehandedly made this my favorite mod
Sonic just levitates for the beginning of City Escape.
Green Forest and White Jungle were the pinnacle of what a great Sonic Adventure levels were. Fast af, clean transitions, minimal breaks in the action.
This is cool but the way sonic and shadow originally ran in SA2 always looked cooler than how they ran in later game(mostly in Shadow’s case)
I agree I think it's something about the jaggines of the animation that really sells how fast he's going
Finally someone else agrees that the OG animations are better than all these mods
Ngl Knuckles running in SA2 was probably the best animation he ever had
I miss Shadow rocket skating.
@@sasook these mods look like they have the exact same animations, not sure what you mean? Maybe they made it smoother? Can't tell
I never thought I'd see the BMW M3 from Need For Speed Most Wanted in a Sonic game but here we are
This is how you remake a classic. This looks phenomenal with what has been done. The character models, new animations, music, little things here and there. If the textures were updated it would make this game really sparkle.
OMG! They included a "BMW Check Engine light sound" when the M3 crashes 😂😂
Mans pulled a whole BMW to a kart race
This, the gens customizable outfit, custom stage, and unleashed QSS coming back, megamix mania, and shadow reloaded are the best imo of shc this year.
0:23 they even added MORE SLAP BASS AS HE FALLS, i'm already sold
Lowkey, I’m so glad yall when and remastered the music track ! They sound really good !
a lot of this level wasn't designed for this increased speed, causing a lot of janky interactions where sonic hits a wall or the level barrier just by taking a normal jump
This is just how I remember the game being, I know it’s not but nostalgia has blinded me
Pretty dope, but while the speed increase is kinda cool, sonic tends to overshoot things now.
The Need for Speed BMW M3 GTR in a Sonic game. Never have I thought I'd see the two games crossover like this.
Hater alert, hater alert, nigga just mad, he didn’t get toys
Agreed. I don't like Sonic's running animation. He used to jog and flail his hands while running, then once he builds momentum, he starts running with his hands behind him. Same for Shadow.
Nothing pleases u guys I swear 😑
I agree completely, but overall you have to admit this is stunning
@@NewEraSupreme Until we get Yuji Naka and the original creators back on board. Most of us will never be pleased lol
The kart racing with the BMW from Need for Speed:Most Wanted.
Such a nice touch !
Sonic Adventure 2 but even better, huh? Looks hard to pull off as a concept but here we are now
Words can not describe how amazing this looks!
THE NEW METAL HARBOR INTRO OH MY GOD THAT WAS BRILLIANT 😭
Amazing. Only thing I would’ve changed is to have kept Ryan’s voice clips for Sonic. Just a preference
Those running animations are so perfect! They exude so much character!
I'm more distracted by Amy's glitchy homing attack bounce....
@@Titan360 lmao I hadn't watched that far into the video, Amy could use a bit more polish
Idk i'm not really a fan of Shadow's skating animation, i prefer the OG animation.
I immediately noticed the Burnout 2 music in the stage select which is pretty funny to me
There's a lot in this mod that I really like, there s also a lot that I really don't like.
I Kindof love how the music in skyrail syncs up perfectly where the stage originally starts
YOOOOOOOOOO!!!! THE BMW!!!!! THATS CRAZY!!!!!!! I wonder how tf end up in the sonic world.....
Imagine that in a future update, Shadow would drive the Ford Mustang or the Chevrolet Corvette 😵😵😵😵😃😃😃😃
I. Love that shadow has his own end screen music
this is really impressive for an sa2 mod. the new animations for sonic and shadow are really cool
OMG I NEED THE FULL RELEASE NOW !!
Man I’d do anything for a full SA2 remaster
There's so much I can say obviously. I'll keep it short: shadows run animation is the best I've seen. I love his super long strides.
Also I love how you included voice clips from all the eras of sonic! Hearing some sonic 06 voice clips makes me happy 😊
There's no way someone thought of putting the NFSMW MC's car in kart mode LMAO
This mod is a work of art! I loved all the new paths included, but my favorite has to be the prison break sequence in Metal Harbor, omg that was a genius idea
To this day, the truck in City Escape stresses me out so much
The new intros to stages and routes are great
Not the Burnout 2 music on the stage select screen 😭
In all seriousness though, this looks great!
This has been and ALWAYS will be my favorite game of all time…it’s honestly perfect. Idk why they don’t make the games like this anymore
This was the best sonic game ever made and never left my collection, and never will.
I just played SA2 today and it was SOOOO hype to see how many new pathways were in lvls like city escape metal harbor, and pyramid cave. The remixes were so hype, I felt like I was being possessed🥴
That is how a frenetic Sonic Game should look like
This is how Metal Harbor was always meant to be. So well done, all of this!
I love this game. As a kid played so many times. And the Music HELL YEAH so frking wesome. Nice Video !
That crazy gadget remix is SO good.
I like this model. He moves like Sonic Unleashed, but he has a serious face from Sonic 06. Well blended.
I've always love the aesthetic of it
As one of the biggest NFS Most Wanted 2005 fan, my jaw dropped at the kart racing
I love the part where the cop says- "Sweet mother Mary, this guys a damn athlete!"
I like the well kept tradition of doing tricks off of the ramps and missing the power ups in City Escape while not really understanding why, but now with the twist that you far overshoot them rather than falling short. 😂
you could always overshoot, but that makes it funnier
0:16 Burnout 2 theme? Or am I confusing it?
Seeing those extra grind rails on the tops of the ringed tunnels in Green Forest was so satisfying. Its so easy to bounce yourself to the top of those and having a rail there is such a save instead of the awkward stumble to go forward again.
36:17 anyone else hear that sound and instantly recognize it
YOU CAN NEVER ESCAPE THE BMW GONG 😈😈😈
@@TheeMentorDex lmaoo
I love how Sonic outran the rings in City Escape.
I love the change in sonic's full speed run cycle animation. Always thought it looked too noisy in sa2
I had my observations regarding some small aspects of the mod/overhaul. Some things I would've weighed before trying this out... And then Sonic driving the M3 happened.
I no longer have any observations. This is the best mod/overhaul ever.
These new music tracks don't cut it....
The love put into this, every change seems good. That being said I’m not at the controller, but the camera angles and sa1 style intros to the level are gorgeous.
The lasers on Crazy Gadgets makes me nervous tho
I freaking adore the quill physics. Can I pet them? 🥰🤣
Can’t believe that no one mentioned the legendary m3 gtr from need for speed most wanted that sonic is driving at the end lmao 🤣
6:50 Why? Why even add new stuff to a stage if you're just going to skip a giant chunk of it.
bro that part in metasl harbor where you get out of the jail and by the time you get in the actual level music changes to the original theme, man, you guys crushed it
Man I just watched that first section on metal harbor, WTF is amazing 😍
Me thinking it was the Rainbow Road that took me out but nah....it was the M3 GTR 😂😂😂
This project seriously needs more attention from people, this upgrade freaking rocks! I'm really digging the extra bits that add to the stage itself like the prison escape section. We can really see the efforts made on this one, and that is something that demands praise!
As a Sonic fan, I can't describe how I feel. This is gorgeous.
This definitely feels like a modern take on SA2, having already played the original, I can tell that this is a good fan game.
@@Tsukiru cool
It's rare nowadays that my mouth hangs open but there were parts of this video where it really did that. Nice playing! MSA 2 looks great.
