BREAKING MY RULES HAD SEVERE CONSEQUENCES

- I didn’t expect breaking my low buy rules would have such severe consequences. The last two weeks of April were hard mentally. I struggled with what is right and what is wrong! I struggled with justifying my purchases and then calling myself out on my bullshit!! All I can do is move forward and learn from my mistakes.

I’m right here with you! In the roller coaster of life! I had a bumpy week this week, myself. I picked up some items I needed for the house at a super terrific deal but I’m trapped in the shaming cycle. It’s so hard to break. I need a plan - a better one than what I have. That’s for sure. I listen to Dave Ramsey, too. He does say that we will make mistakes but we just have to keep going with the end goal in mind. Im here in AZ, too. In the east Valley. I’m happy to have found your channel!
🌵🏜️💚🤍🩷
I think as long as we understand that mistakes are a part of the journey and that they aren’t the end of the journey we will get to where we need to be. We just gotta keep chucking along.
Thank you for being vulnerable with us, I think we all need to give ourselves a little grace on tough days, months and even years. 🦄 For me, it’s been really hard to re-train my mind that loving myself means eating well, moving regularly and prioritizing self-care after years of doing the opposite.
It has been a struggle for sure. I think so many of us think of self care as going to the spa or buying something new but that’s not what true self care is. Self care is healthy habits that will help us to feel good in the long haul.
🦄 I’m going through something similar, so this definitely resonated with me. Thank you for putting this out there! I’m going to try not being so strict with my shopping, because I’ve noticed that tends to lead to a lot of compulsive spending after a few months of being really strict
I’m wishing you luck. Remember as long as we are headed in the right direction it doesn’t matter how long it takes us to get there.
🦄I’m impressed! I would not call that a failure month - I think it’s very healthy to be flexible and listen to ourselves and what we need. There is a time for pushing ourselves and there is a time for using our rational minds to veer from the plan when needed.
Very true 😁 thank you.
Love the denim dress and the haircut! 🦄💙
Thank you so much 😊
🦄 I ALWAYS watch your videos until the end. I wish you didn’t feel so bad about yourself. You did such a great job despite what you think. You need to listen to how much you do. And how busy you are. And how much you give to everyone. You’re human. And you’re doing an amazing job. I am sure your family would agree. We are in a process and use what you learned during your growing month as opposed to failing month to do better moving forward. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much Liz. You are the sweetest.
🦄 thanks for being sincere and vulnerable! I ate an entire chocolate egg (Easter leftover) yesterday, I am right there with you! Today though I am picking up the pieces and getting back on track.
Yes 👏🏼. Me too. We’ve got this!
Thank you for sharing! I love how real and honest you are. When it was on CNBC, I used to watch the Suze Orman show-every week, she had a segment called “Can I afford it?” Viewers would call in with their financial stats and ask her if she thought they could buy items they wanted!! It was really eye opening!
Just because you have the money doesn’t mean you should spend it 🤣 that’s what I tell myself.
@@MelissaAdams-Wade Yes exactly!! If you like financial shows, check out Gail Vaz Oxlade’s show “Till debt do us part”-it’s a good one also!
Melissa, thank you so much for sharing your challenges and experiences in April. 🌟 Your honesty is incredibly relatable and comforting. I had planned to dive into nutritional studies and maintain a regular yoga practice myself in April, but with my baby waking up frequently at night lately, almost all my energy has been focused on her. This has left little room for my personal interests, and sometimes it feels almost impossible to maintain a balance. Seeing how you faced your challenges and learned from them really inspires me. It reminds me that even when life throws us off course, we can find the strength to start anew. Thanks again for your openness, and here's to both of us finding our stride and moving forward! 💪
Yes, we’ve got this.
It’s so hard when our kids are babies but it’s also so rewarding. I miss the baby snuggles 🥰 but I don’t miss the sleepless nights.
Outstanding video Melissa. I love that you’re not beating yourself up about April and looking at it as a teaching point. 🦄
Thank you Lisa 😁
I love your dress! Don't be so hard on yourself, you've been going thru a lot this year. Still watching 👀
Thank you 😊
Thanks for sharing your journey Melissa. Falling off track is not necessarily bad, it can teach you what not to do next time or what to adjust. Congrats on your LTK! 🎉 I will follow ❤
You are right! Thank you so much.
🦄. Melissa, please don't beat yourself up. There are plenty of people in the world that are happy to do that for us. It's hard, I do the same. I beat myself up when I fall short of a goal. All I can do when that happens is pick myself up and start again. You will make it to your goal. I really enjoy your videos and I find I can apply some of it to me. You feel like you're failing, but you have helped me with my motivation and you didn't even know it. How can you be failing when you help so many people? ❤
Thank you so much. It makes my day to hear that I’ve been helpful to you. 🥰
🦄 you are doing awesome! Your awareness in so inspirational! I'm proud of you! Your priorities that you set for yourself as a mom, wife, etc are great!❤🎉😊
Thank you so much. That means a lot to me.
🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄 I’m the same in that I watch someone’s entire video. I don’t skip through. I always enjoy your content Melissa and I wish you the best of luck 🍀 with your health journey and with your 2024 goals! 💫
Thank you Sophie. If I click on a video it’s because I’m interested in the topic so I watch the whole video. Now, if someone goes completely off track then I might click off.
@@MelissaAdams-Wade Yes I must admit I have done that too. 😂 Not too often though which is why I’d forgotten. 👍🏼
Thanks for sharing makes alot of sense how you structure things . I need to make a new budget🦄. I am 52 and on a workout journey right now it’s hard to get it in the day 😊
It can be really hard but I bet you feel great when you get it done.
I was on an exercise "Journey" haha and kinda fell off the wagon like you about 2 weeks ago. We just have to get back in the saddle! I feel best when I am on a schedule. I work from home now as an artist and paint for a gallery. Since my Mom passed I am trying to get back on track. Hearing you, helps me and will help others because we all struggle with ourselves. Don't be too hard on yourself, I know you will get back on track! I am trying to do the same. Thanks Melissa for your honesty.
Yes ma’am, we’ve got this! I got my exercise done for today all ready. I had plain Greek yogurt with a couple of strawberries for breakfast. For lunch I had a turkey burger, carrots, and zucchini 👊🏼
@@MelissaAdams-Wade Sounds great! I had a protein shake for dinner! I am now starving LOL
Great video. Love the honesty. I definitely feel different when I eat better, but it’s always a battle! We do the weekly “mad money” thing and it is good, does take a long time to save for things tho. Especially when I pause to buy makeup or skincare or a gift for someone. It does help w discipline though. I really enjoy Dave Ramsey. I don’t agree with everything he says but his principles are solid. 🦄
Same. He is a little bit ridiculous with how struck he thinks you should be, and the get multiple jobs/ sell everything to pay off debt I don’t agree with either.
You got this M! ❤
Thank you 😊
🦄🦄🦄Hi Melissa another wonderful video. Please be kind to yourself, you are a wife a full time working mummy and life is crazy busy. I’m 20 years older or there about than you at 54 and I’ve just started couch to 5k and I’m struggling to find the motivation to exercise 3 days a week and then run the other 3 days a week and I don’t work and my babies now have their babies. Life is busy and your doing amazing 💜
Thank you Sharon. You’ve got this 👊🏼
@@MelissaAdams-Wade Thankyou you too ….. we can do this 🩷
🦄 This journey is going to teach you many new things going forward! ❤
lol you can say that again
Im happy to listen to you even if its a 30 to an hour long video. Having work life balance is very important and that's what I'm doing, make sure I have time to exercise and eat healthy meal, though i treat myself to some unhealthy once in a while because the more I forbid myself, the more I crave for it and eat more. I dont have children and i find it hard to keep up on youtube, plus having a full time job, what more, you being a mom. I think you're amazing and doing a great job 🦄
Thank you so much Aisa 🥰. If my kids were still in the younger ages or toddler ages, I definitely wouldn’t be able to juggle at all, but since they are a little bit older and a little bit more self sufficient, I’m able to do a little bit more.
Hi Melissa, don't get down on yourself you've had a lot to deal with this year, remember you're still grieving a huge loss, be gentle with yourself, take the time you need to take. I too have serious tummy issues; do you take a good probiotic in the morning? I drink a glass of water then take a good probiotic before I have my tea or coffee it helps with certain issues for sure. Also sometime eating veggies isn't always good for us I did an elimination diet then added back food slowly and found I cannot tolerate most veggies any longer, so I really don't eat many now and I have been feeling much better with mostly meat, healthy fats, pickles and sauerkraut, a few veg like cabbage, green beans, cooked broccoli are okay in moderation. I also started the intermittent fasting program, so I only eat from noon-8pm and that has helped so much with digestion and bloating. You have a very full week I am amazed at how much you get done I say you're awesome! Living in AZ I would get up quite early and walk first thing in the morning cause it's so darn hot and I do like to walk outside so it was always wonderful to be up early walking and watch the sun come up. Thank you for being so honest with your viewers, we love you for it! I wish you a better May dear lady : )
Thank you so much. I have leaned that certain veggies do my harm than good for me. Broccoli makes my stomach very upset, so does cauliflower.
I am still grieving. My dad passed away many years ago on May 26th. That day also happens to be my brothers birthday. It’s going to be such a hard day for me this year. It’s all I can think about.
magnesium supplements at night before bed help with gut help and potty issues and even sleep. you can even use a spray. try to keep your head up, we all have struggles when we don’t keep to routines it can really impact us mentally as well as physically. next month is a new start! never look back other than to learn and move forward in the present. hope things get easier next month new adventures take time to work out the kinks! Tam 😊
Hi Tam, do you have a specific brand that you use? I’m going to order some and see how it goes.
🦄 I’m also working on getting myself on a workout routine and eating healthier. It’s so much easier said than done though!
You are so right! But we got this. One day at a time 😄
I can relate to a lot of this. Thanks for sharing! 🦄
Thank you so much for watching until the end 🥰
A Cucumber 🥒 and Tomatoes 🍅 are fruits! 😂
Don’t forgot to check out Lisa’s check in video.
I’m sorry today’s video is a bit lengthy. 18:00 🕕 is where it gets real!
🦄 Love your denim jacket.
Thank you, it’s actually a dress. I’ll see if I can find the link .
It’s on clearance!! I linked it in the description box 😁
🦄
Yay 😁. Thank you Denise
Finding balance is difficult. It depends really on how much we want the other financial goals over short term trinkets now. My luxe fund is low because my other goals take precedent and will for roughly the next 3 years. The last bag l bought was in November, the Loewe Anagram raffia tote, so pretty reasonable in price. I’m currently battling with my love of a particular CD Book Tote - not so reasonable in price - and if I buy it, will I be happy knowing my other goal will be extended? Thankfully it is out of stock at the moment which is helping me to really think about what I want more. 🦄
That’s a great way to put it. I do this also. I ask myself for ex “is the fendi peekaboo worth bag #2?” Will it go with most of my wardrobe? Would I rather have the money or the bag? I find these questions to be very helpful.
Great video, maybe sets rules that are not as restrictive? Show yourself some grace, one bad month does not ruin all of your hard work.
Thank you 😊 you are right.
Hi Mel, I took away two things from this video.
1) you are mature enough to adit you made a mistake, learn from it, and move forward!
2) you do not throw in the towel just because a mistake was made!
👏🦄
Thank you KW. Mistakes will be made, it’s what we do with those that matters.
Definitely work on a budget and pay yourself 1st 🦄
That means put money into savings right? I always put 15% of my salary in savings
@@MelissaAdams-Wade or try to put away what you spend. Like, try doing it with gas first. If you doend $30 on filling your tank, take $30 and put it away like it doesn't exist. Do it for you and your hubby. I did it years ago when I was married. It adds up!
@@Jploveslv oh ya, that wouldn’t work for us. We spend over 2k a month just on groceries.
@@MelissaAdams-Wade holy 💩
I know you have a big household.
This year and last I set myself a budget of £6000 for luxury, so if i spend 4k on a bag but i sold one for 2k then I still had 4k left! I went over by 29% last year ! I’m pretty much on my budget this year but I have my 40th birthday in September so I may get some money for that! I’ve already bought my bday bag in January but it’s still in its box till September 🦄
I think I’ll do something similar next year. I need to figure out that budget would be. I want it to be reasonable but not so strict I can’t stick to it.
@@MelissaAdams-Wade my budget is only for luxury, I haven’t made a budget for general stuff but I don’t think I over spend to much on that
🦄 I am in awe of how self aware you are, and how much you accomplish in your “everyday” life. To me it looks like success, not failure all the way around. It’s not necessarily a failure to not accomplish the goals you set up, as the goals themselves might’ve been unrealistic. You are already conscious changing your “system “ in 2025. So why wait, if it’s not serving you now and induces gilt. Revising goals doesn’t mean you are a quitter, or weak, or not committed. It could mean you are smart, analytical, aware, can admit when things don’t work and need changing.
On a topic of GI issues I suffered my whole life while trying everything under the sun. I just had my two good months. 21:03 If you are interested I can DM you.
You are so right. I’ll have to give that some thought 💭. Doing 6 months of my “low buy is long enough to know if something is working or isn’t working for me. Thank you for a new perspective.
And yes!! I will take all the pointers I can get
Would you share your daily/monthly routines? I don’t know how you’re finding time for all your activities 🤯, I have 2 kids and sometimes struggling with time for basic chores 😵💫

@@MelissaAdams-Wade You're so welcome girl! Also, I've been on a debt payoff journey, and buying my first home journey, and I found Vanntastic financing way more helpful and realistic than Dave Ramsey. Not hating on him at all, but what I've learned from her channel changed my life for the better.
