      I am super grateful for this. Have always loved seeing your projects on behance and LinkedIn and super super love your micro style guide.
      Is there a specific format to it or you go with what you feel at a moment? Because I notice you sometimes change it on your dribbble?
      I find them super helpful and looking forward to incorporating them in my process and designs.

      Adolfo Teixeira thank buddy! Exactly what I felt when starting out and so this video was created to make life for starting freelancers (and perhaps also more experienced) much easier. It’s good to follow design principles and take steps which leads to a specific result. Eventually the creative mind plays a big role in this part as well. But it’s sure a great guidance to start from I would say.

    summary is a noun, and "summery" is an adjective, but they sound alike and both describe something short. A summer feels like a short piece of a long year, and a is a short statement about a longer piece.

    I hope to hear more from your mindset about determined how to put the sketch one in the right (customed) grid template.
    And how to execute more complicated rhythm, curved, and microelement in the more complex grid and logo concept. Along with the color gradient work, and other types of typeface as well not only geometry type.

    Dude, your camera is awesome! I see by your beard that we are the same age. 37? :P
    Nice video, keep up the good work! You encourage me to speak more freely!
    I have a few questions.
    1. Do you build complex brand guidelines or just logo guidelines?
    2. How many concepts do you show to the client?
    3. Do you include color & type exploration in the initial presentation or later in the project?
    4. Do you work on something else except logo and branding?
    And a theme suggestion for future videos, "how to build a client base".
    Cheers

    • @jeroendesign
      @jeroendesign  4 года назад +2

      dbworkplay haha. Seems so sharp it made me look.. OLDER?! Haha. Since my 20th I already started to get grey hair in my beard. I’m currently 33 by the way ;)
      1. I often create more complex brand guidelines although I can count the many on two hands. So mostly I deliver 3-4 page style guides to only focus on logo design part, color and typography.
      2. I usually work with concept rounds from 3-5 rounds. In each round there will be x-amount of concepts shared depending the project and budget of the client.
      3. Yes, I focus on colors and typography as well. Makes it a full pack to use (also ui) and implement in a website for example.
      4. Mostly 80% I focus on logo (re)design only. And to be honest, this is also my strongest skill and where people know me for. Other 20% is illustration work, mural (illustrations), icon design and sometimes poster designs. But I mostly enjoy the logo part as that’s always been my biggest passion too :)
      I’ll consider your suggestion for a next topic. Thank you!

    That was a great first video, I learnt a lot of things so thank you :)
    I don't use plugins with Illustrator but it looks like I definitely should! I need to find a list of useful plugins.
    I have several questions ahah:
    Setting up the logo grid: I have no clue how to set it up to get a good balance… I guess it's mostly a feeling? Do you have any recommendation?
    Font choice: I'm always struggling picking the right font and I'm mostly going on Google font and have a look. I'm picking a serif or sans-serif, rounded, bold or thinn depending of the brand. How do you proceed?
    Colours: depending of the target, type of industry/entity and their core values, I'm looking at swatches on the web, how do you proceed to pick your colours like at 10:51 ? Those colours are great.
    I feel like I'm lacking of basic "art" and "design" knowledge, but I don't know where I can teach myself these.
    I'm definitely subscribing and looking forward to your next videos.
    Cheers!

    Jeroen, what should I do if the offline human engagement research 5:35 doesn't work in my city? Because of the most percentages of people in my city are savage drunkards or alcoholics, I wouldn't never-ever rely on their opinion. Because of the country located near Russia, and the country inherited the Soviet past. Can I do online internationally instead of local offline? Thank you!

    Hello Jeroen, I've been a big fan of your work for a very long time and I've always wanted to see the process of your work. Thanks for putting this out. I'm currently struggling with making perfect grid logos. Do you have any resources you can suggest? Also, how did you master illustrator so well?

    Don't skip the sketching step! I suppose a seasoned designer can go right to Illustrator, but for all you youngsters out there, start with pencil and paper.

      Gretchen Wieshuber thank you for your comment and feedback. I mentioned that I sometimes skip this step because that’s not always needed for me. Indeed for starting designers that’s really important to do because it’s part of the basic steps to start a project.

    and thank you

      Rachid Eljid thank you! This always depends on how a client reach out to me. But in first I often receive an email first and next steps start from there. Most of the times I stay in touch via Skype and email. Sometimes when a client is local I got to actually see them 😜

      @@jeroendesign Hi, firstly, I want to say that your work is fantastastic and you are truly an incredible inspiration for beginners like me. Now, talking about how you maintain contact with clients, I have a question: how do I, in the first place, can get clients from other cities / countries? And thank you, beforehand :)

      I wish I could do that but I put my client works first for now. Perhaps when I produce income with this channel one day that would be more ideal. But really motivated and buzzing to work on a new video soon!

    Hey Jeroen! When it comes to timescale, how do you communicate with your clients the length of time it will take? Or do you just give them a rough idea?

    • @jeroendesign
      @jeroendesign  4 года назад +5

      Oliver Swinburne I always negotiate about timelines and if there are crucial deadlines/milestones to be made. 70% of all projects clients let me take the lead on time management but expect a project delivery within 3-5 weeks averagely. Sometimes it could take longer but it’s also depends a project complexity and total requirements. After discussing the project brief I can always mention a rough indication, but I often feel creativity can’t be pushed. So always give an estimate timeline, but a flexible deadline would be ideal for this type of work.

    I've been designing logos for years but I really enjoyed your presentation. There's always something new to learn and think about! Where can I find the app Logo Package Express? That's amazing! Oh! I also loved seeing that you sketch on gridded paper. That makes it much easier to draw things on a grid. I've always used tracing paper, now I think I'll use both!

    Do you work with a formal signed contract and standard terms and conditions?
    I understand that it feels safer to let clients pay in advance, especially when working for foreign clients online. But when your client is a known Dutch company and they have signed a contract, don't you trust them to pay the agreed price after you've sent them your invoice?

    • @jeroendesign
      @jeroendesign  4 года назад

      Wuppie62 I believe this down payment is part of all client collaborations and needs to be taken strictly. To be honest, most of the times I do not work with contracts but have clear agreements (written via email contacts etc) that a downpayment I required always. As I often have multiple projects ongoing, I don’t want to risk to waste my time in starting to work for a new client and later find out they will pause a project or cancel it. To have a downpayment been done (I always do 50% upfront and 50% when design is approved) they secure my time and know I’ll set their time/project on priority as well.

      Justin Vajko I can start over or analyze how close they are and decide if it’s a concern or not. Also could depend if they are active in a same industry etc.
