About to replace some of my hard fuel lines with soft lines as well. When removing the tank the hard lines were a bitch to disconnect fron the sending unit and there was no room to do it while the bed is on. Bent one of them and decided to just say bye to them
Thank you so much this video was really nicely done and really explained really well, Thanks again for sharing this it's definitely going to help me on my 79 K10 👍👍
I ordered the Spectre tank for mine, but it didn't come painted just galvanized so i scuffed it with a Scotch Brite on a drill and primed it and painted it with three coats of Valspar Tractor and Implement paint. You can't hardly scratch that stuff off with a key.
@@2AOverland , you're welcome. I love learning about and working on my 79 crewcab 1 ton dually. Every little bit helps. Y'all take care and be careful out there. ✌️😎👍
Is there a chance you can guide me on the hoses for fuel there's 3 and on both tanks need to find out witch goes to the other tank the middle or one of the sides
Sorry about getting to you late man! The middle is to the water spout on the frame rail, the front and largest one is your fuel feed and the smallest one is your fuel return
Tbh from the factory there probably was but this truck was messed with so much it probably got removed. And it has a filter on the backside of the intake. At least mine did
78 Chevy gas dual tank couldnt get fuel to carb.passenger tank is supplying fuel to motor.was told tank splitter couldn't be found by local mechanic got it running new battery. What should I do?
Could you tell me where the fuel tank level sensors go to who ever had my truck before me cut all the wires and I have no idea where they go from the tanks
@@2AOverland thanks man.. I'm tired of my diesel leaking money all over the ground an I'm hoping it can help with more power to the wheels or acceleration
Question, im working on a 1979 chevy silverado just like this one on video! Its gas! I dropped both fuel tanks right each sending units have three hose connections, i oredered new units a d both came with two hose connections, then i ordered them again and this this time they sent one unit with three hose connections and one with two hose. Will either of these two sets work or not???? Or do they have to be the ones with three hose connections! Kind of stuck here lol 😆 ive talked to two mechanics and they both have different opinions on this matter. NEED HELP
Thanks for watching I really appreciate the support! So I could be wrong but there’s three hose connections on the diesel ones cause one is the feed to fuel pump, 2nd is the return fuel line and the 3rd is to a on/off spout on the side of the frame that’s for separating water from diesel fuel… so I’m going to guess you need the 2 hose connection sending units 😊
@2AOverland that's what I thought cause I've seen it on diesel tanks but unfortunately these tanks are gas cause it smelled like varnish. Diesel doesn't good bad that I know of it might but it takes a long time
The senders include the filters but these part #’s are through oreillys where I bought them Passenger side: FG05L Driver side: FG05K I hope this helps!

Duel gasoline tanks on a pickup truck (one been an after-market) will not pass smog in California, the Smog check system shows it as a leak in the fuel system.

No problem! Glad I can help! I couldn’t find much info online so I figured I could make a video on this towards the truck build series!
Great info.. just started my 80chevy project.
Good job looks great. Happy Travels
Thank you so much! 😎

Nice! I’ll keep that in mind if I have to touch up the tanks or have to repaint the frame
I have a short bed dual tank truck that the previous owner deleted the pas side tank. Are the tank hangers the same on the driver and pas sides?
I’m about 90% sure they are the same
It has to be running to switch tanks, right? I've just purchased my C-10 6.2l and thanks because idk which side operates on switch.
No worries I think the key has to be on for the tank switch to have power
Do you happen to remember the rubber fuel line sizes that are used for the out, the return & the vent?
Thanks! 😀👍
Thank you so much for watching! I honestly don’t remember what size hose I had to get sorry about that! 😬

Did you see any gas filters from the tanks to the switch Valve?
There isn’t you have to install your own
@@2AOverland Okay thank you I was told that there were filter, it didn't make any sense. Thank you

Hey how did you do the wiring I'm stuck on that part.
When it came to fuel senders or the fuel pump?
Could you tell me where the fuel tank level sensors go to who ever had my truck before me cut all the wires and I have no idea where they go from the tanks
I have a '86 C20 6.2L that I've been wanting to do this with.. I've done a D200 Dodge, but this seems more simple since I've done it before
It should be pretty easy to do! Good luck with your project 😎

Where did you get the gas tank filler neck ?? I can't seem to find one
Filler neck hose or the metal filler neck?
Chevy Ford dodge splitter does it make a difference?
I honestly don’t know 😬 I would run the gm one but if you can make the others work I’d go that route

I appreciate it thank you! Glad to help out
good job man! keep the content comin!
Thanks man I really appreciate that! 😎👍 feels good to get this truck going
@@2AOverland I love those old square bodies! I would love to see this thing with a half rack and roof top tent!
I just got a 74 k1500 and the right side doesn’t work and the left does but it doesn’t read at all well how do I make it to read correctly
I’m not entirely sure. It could either be a power, ground, sender, pump or gauge issue
Can you send me the link for the
Fuel sending units & the part number for the fuel filter too please?
Thanks

Passenger side: FG05L

I hope this helps!
I would like to ask you a question? Could you make another gas take work on your truck?
You can! A huge swap for these trucks are a tank from a K5 blazer
Is your tanks different sizes?
No they’re the same size, 20 gallons
So a dual tank truck has 2 20 gallon tanks ?
The 8ft bed trucks have 20 gallon tanks and the 6ft bed trucks have 16 gallon tanks
Good work 👍
Thank you 😎
What about the vapor valve
Vapor valve? What do you mean?
@2A_Overland He was asking about the evaporative emission system on gasoline trucks. Yours is a diesel and is not equipped with it.
That makes sense that confused me
Can any send me a link to the fuel necks please?
Which one? The rubber hose or the metal filler neck?
@@2AOverland Both please for the left and right tank
What year is your truck?

Yes

That’s a good little piece of info! Thank you 🤔
It’s not aftermarket though???
To bad the rubber hoses won't last 2 years on ethanol
Thanks for the advice. I had no idea. I will need to replace it with diesel fuel rated hoses
"Side Saddle" gas tanks boy GM paid for that design
