    Dude, you need to get better with presenting stuff, I mean alot better. Hope you take this as constructive criticism but I doubt you will. Also why add a link to a psu that you can't find. Add an alternative instead. Help your viewer instead of just concluding its hard to find. That's useless information. Couldn't finnish watching, felt like complete waste of time.

      @@StephenLewisUniverse I tell it how it is. And presenting as a word is no better or worse than 'communication skills'. This guy simply don't give a shit. I love constructive criticism. I've been told my intros are too long, I talk around the subject too much, I use too many stickers, I have a played out, corny RUclips style...all true, and all things I've considered and improved in future videos. But you seem to be either a child testing out how to be edgy on the internet, or a very immature adult. I hope it's the former, but if it's the latter, I will take all your criticism into consideration and share some with you too: Work on your social skills and stop being so petty for no reason.

    There are many RUclips videos that will help you fix the voltage overheat problem without changing out the power supply. The 12V pin is used for the GD-rom and if you remove it nothing uses that power so it runs hot. Disconnect that or put a resistor in that pin will resolve that issue fairly simply.

    • @GamersOverdriveRetroMode
      @GamersOverdriveRetroMode  3 года назад

      Good to know! It's not an issue for me now with the pico psu. The problem for me was that I needed to change my power supply regardless, since it was an American system running in Europe. I could have used a big clunky converter, but when I learned about the pico and saw how small and compact it is, I had to try it. I'm very happy with it, but since it's hard to find now, your advice is extremely valuable for anyone having the same problem. Thanks for watching, by the way!

      That sounds like the true "ultimate" build. I've gone as far as I'm interested in going though. Since I've started emulating through Redream on my Nvidia Shield, playing DC flawlessly at 60 fps in widescreen 4k, I have a hard time going back to the real console. I know that may sacrilegious to some, but it is what it is 😂

    • @carlosrainhaaraujo
      @carlosrainhaaraujo 3 года назад +1

      @@GamersOverdriveRetroMode it actually isn't sacrilege. They're quality of life improvements that come with being alive in 2021 and you shouldn't turn them down in favor of purism or snobbism imho. If you do put it under the microscope, I'm not playing with the real console: no grinding laser sound, no loud fan, full HD video, overall cooler system, no sharp d-pad and clunky controller (I also have the retro fighters pad). I think you need to be able to embrace these in order to take full advantage of the DC legacy nowadays, so I'm totally in favor of using redream or a beefed up system. Great build, btw :) I used to have mine like that a few years ago and it was already amazing!

    To be fair, the original controller used hal effect sensors (magnetic fields) for analogue input. Far superior to anything else, perfect deadzones, extreme precision, They literally can't break. The Retro Fighter is your typical potentiometer affair, which will wear and cause drift after extended use.

    1. To use this particular original psu with 220V you only had to replace the big brown capacitor with one of the same capacitance but 400V rating. Caution, I'm reffering to this specific psu that I saw on this video, there is another revision that beside the cap, two 62Kohm resistors need to be added in order to work with 220V. Its simple, there are guides on the net. I would definitely preffer the modded original psu to the bootleg chinese on from aliexpress that surely has crap capacitors.
    2. The heat issue by using the original psu can be remedied by installing a 3d printed shell for the gdemu, that way the air pumped by the fan will be vented through the psu. There is another way that I personaly never tried that includes disabling the 12V line of the psu (useless for the gdemu, only used by the original GD Drive).
    3. When using the picoPSU you definitely need a good external 12V PSU and not a crappy chinese one, otherwise you will be getting distortions on screen. Personally I used (more than once) the LEICKE 12V 4A psu 48W (Model NT030011) but they're not cheap and they never run hot.

    2. When you are playing a game on its original hardware, it's not emulation.
    It's like if I said Read Dead 2 that I bought digitaly on my XboxI started calling it rom and that I'm emulating it.

    I prefer how the VMU sits flush with the OG controller. But most importantly, how would the bumpers work in games like Sonic adventure wherein triggers only turn the camera? Would they also turn it like in the Xbox 360/PS3 ports?

    • @GamersOverdriveRetroMode
      @GamersOverdriveRetroMode  3 года назад

      The bumpers are just clones of the triggers. It's made specially for fighting games. Pressing triggers in fighting games sucks, so they added them, but you can still use the triggers if you prefer (but no, no special features like the later ports). As for the VMU, it would be better if it sat flush, I agree, but the easier-to-view window is worth the tradeoff.

    Dont think the Hyperkin adapter is the move my man... DC has native RGB/VGA output. It'd probably be higher quality and lower latency to use a VGA to HDMI adapter since most converters meant for PC are low latency as long as it doesnt scale (which begs for a VGA CRT which are easy to find and store and move compared to CRT TVs) but theres a reason DCDigital is always sold out, and thats because its high quality. Hyperkin, at least for anything technical (or most things lol) is almost always not the way to go. Especially for video. Use an OSSC or Retrotink which would be easy since DC has RGB out and everything, and the OSSC/Retrotink can be used with any console etc.

    • @GamersOverdriveRetroMode
      @GamersOverdriveRetroMode  3 года назад +1

      It is, but two problems. One, it's expensive. Two, Dreamcast wasn't built with 1080p in mind. As a 480p console, bumping it up to 1080p shows every jagged little edge in crystal clarity. There are ways to fix that, like the M cable, but that's expensive too. So if all you want is 1080p Dreamcast, just emulate it on Reicast or another good emulator, and use the enhanced rendering to smooth it all out. That's free, by the way. But DCHDMI plus an M cable is more money than I want to spend, especially when 480p is really plenty good enough for me 👍.
      ...and after saying all that...would I still take a DCHDMI for free? Of course I would! 😂

    The VMU Window on that third party controller is not larger, it's the same size but the controller is smaller so the VMU sticks out. How is it better for fighting games? The buttons are laid out out the same way in a diamond as appose to how they are on a fighting stick, if thing a controller like the Saturn or Genesis 6 button controller would be better for fighting games.
    How can you hat Shenmue? that's like a Nintendo Fan Boy hating Zelda< Mario and Smash Brothers.

    • @GamersOverdriveRetroMode
      @GamersOverdriveRetroMode  3 года назад

      A few things here...First, do you own the Retro Fighters controller, or have you at least used it? If not, you probably can't get a real understanding of how it improves the viewing space of the VMU screen. The original DC controller has excess plastic on the interior that hiders the viewing angles. The Striker DC cleans that up and improves the view. That's a fact. Next, as for how it's better for fighting games, it was designed for them. Not every fighting game controller needs to have 6 buttons on the face of it. This one has both shoulder buttons and triggers. The original DC controller only has triggers. Many people, myself included, learned how to play fighting games on an SNES controller, which has four face buttons and two shoulder buttons. For me, it's the ideal set up. I also love the Saturn controller (I reviewed the Retrobit wireless Saturn controller on my channel), but this one is still miles ahead of the original DC controller when it comes to 2D fighters. It was, after all, designed with that specific purpose in mind. Finally, as for Shenmue...you are talking to a guy who has invested countless hours into the series since it's initial release. There was nothing like it at the time, and I give it credit for being a trailblazer of sorts. That said, due to my being a child at the time, I forced myself to ignore it's horrible writing and laughable dialogue, which is some of the absolute worst in gaming, period. The story is ridiculous, the gameplay is stiff and boring, and the characters are paper-thin caricatures that make me feel embarrassed for the people who created them. And yet still, I played through 1 and 2 and pretended to love Yu Suzuki's "masterpiece." I also lost my mind 6 years ago at E3 when he announced the Kickstarter release of part three, and instantly funded him. What I got out of it was much more valuable than I ever imagined: a wake-up call. Yu Suzuki has been milking an extremely overrated franchise fueled by fanboy nostalgia and hard-earned cash. Shenmue 3 absolutely sucked, and it slapped me in the face with the reality that, sadly, so did parts 1 and 2. This is all personal opinion, of course, and if you enjoy the series, more power to you. But don't come at me as a casual observer. I've invested a lot of myself into Yu Suzuki's Great Lie, and my opinion is informed.

      The DC Digital is a little over a hundred usd from what I've seen, but it's an involved install and you will need a little mechanical know-how (and a soldering iron). Some services will install it for you for a fee. That said, it's absolutely the cleanest signal you can get, but I'm happy with an Akura Box from the Behar Bros for now. Dreamcast games were designed for 480p. Seeing the games in 1080p is very clean but also reveals all the jaggies. Personal preference... Thanks for watching!

    Hi all! Dreamcast is still my all time favorite console. If I could find 1:1 ports of Master System Phantasy Star 1-4 that could be played on Dreamcast (not some “remake” editions), it would be the only console i care about.
    I’m loving the idea of the GDEMU, and I’m *not* asking for pirate links, but is there any known way I can take my original/official DC game discs that I own and create GDEMU images directly from them? A “GD-to-ROM” ripper app? I’d buy a GDEMU in a heartbeat if I knew how to get the game files of the proper format to add to an SD/MicroSD card to use! What file type is needed? .iso? .bin/cue? .CDI? I’m dreading the day my original optical drive fails.
    2 more questions:
    1. Does any company make new replacement GD-Optical drives for Dreamcast? Or compatible optical drives so I can swap it out when the original dies?
    2. When using a GDEMU, do you need a separate SD card for each game? Or can multiple games be stored on and played from one SD card? Is there a menu system to choose which game you want to play? If so, is that built into the GDEMU or require separate software?
    Thanks to all for any help!!!
