  • Does Muay Thai build muscles ? In my experience and from what I have seen, it does, but it is very limited
    If you do Muay Thai and you want to build muscle you should be weight training and also really focusing on your nutrition
    Test out program splits whereby you are recovered at the end of the week to start it all again the next week
    Currently I do Muay Thai around twice a week and weight train 3 x a week (upper body x 2 and on lower body day)

    I started bodybuilding and stopped because punching was stiff. No im 80kg at 5’8 with some body fat and training Muay Thai 6 days a week hoping to fight next year. Not eating terribly (a lot of Thai food haha) my weight won’t budge. Feel strong though and that’s alright

    Very honest and informative video!
    I would like to add:
    Muay Thai, as with any other cardio heavy exercise, breaks down muscles - this is one of the reason Triathletes are so slim.
    It can be minimised by not training every single day for hours, and with a high caloric diet, or taking breaks during training to eat some high caloric snacks to avoid forcing the body to use muscle mass as energy source. So, for someone looking to build muscle mass it is indeed best to go to the gym as you said.

      Yeh the hard Muay Thai training really hinders muscle growth . I’ve also taken a focus on building muscle recently so I’ve had to reduce my Muay Thai training and on the days I do train I make sure I get enough protein and calories . Train hard man, I’m hoping to reach swole status in the next 6 months

    I’m doing 2 x Muay Thai, 2 x BJJ and 2 x Full Body workouts with a focus on powerlifting. I think depending on your focus you have to taper each training session. If I’m ramping up to hit PBs on my squat, deadlift or bench I suffer fatigue in Muay Thai so I’d say if muscle building is your focus maybe taper off the combat sports and vice versa.
    I could get stronger faster if I did less Muay Thai and BJJ. I could train more martial arts more intensely if I roll off the weights or do less intense sessions. I’m happy doing a balance of the 2.

      Yeh agreed. Right now my focus is building more muscle so for the mean time I’ve tapered off my Muay Thai and ramped up my weight training. By the way that I training program. By the way that is a full on training program you have, how is your recovery ?

      @@teepmuaythai to be honest… terrible! I usually take a bjj or Muay Thai session off a week! That’s an area I struggle with tbh! So I guess I alternate which one I take off so it’s more like 1 x Muay Thai, 2 x BJJ and 2 x lifting on one week then the following week 2 x Muay Thai, 1 x bjj and 2 x lifting. I do sometimes manage 2 sessions for all of them but only if I’m de-loading my weight sessions or it’s a lighter week in general.
      I wish I had absolute control of my classes so I could make my Kru/bjj coach do one lighter session each a week hahaha but sadly I cannot!

    Which muscles should I focus on weight training? And I'm confused with chest and biceps should I train them?

    • @teepmuaythai
      @teepmuaythai  4 месяца назад +1

      Yep you should definitely train them . One thing I was taught is that a stronger body has more longevity in sports . What I do is I try to target all muscle groups through the basic movements - bench press , deadlifts, pull ups , military press, squats, bicep curls . These are my core movements. I do upper body / lower body splits so I hit my arms and chest on the upper body day .

      Thought the same way as U when I first started at the start of the year, when I say it's one of the best things I have ever done I am not joking. Tips I can give U are, 1. be consistent ( I have only been doing it for 5 months but am a bit better then people who started it the same time as me because I'm there alot), 2. be patient, your not gonna learn everything really quickly and the most important tip, 3, say ooowweee after every kick to give it 30% more power 😂
