Thank you for this! I recognized the EQ and Subtle Clarity from previous tutorials...these quick tips saved me a couple of times. Recently I was asked to do some work that involves audio and your tutorials have given me the "backbone" I needed to delve into it. Thank you!
@@MikeRussell Do you have a full on course available (or to suggest) which explains all an editor would need to know to have a better understanding of audio work?
Hi Mike! After recording something on Audition, what is the correct way to export this to Premiere, considering that I want to do a Video Podcast? Thank you!
Hi there! To seamlessly export your audio from Adobe Audition to Premiere for your video podcast, simply save your Audition project, then import the audio file into Premiere and sync it with your video footage. Thank you for your question!
My audition does not record that way into dual tracks and cannot catch audio when i turn record on into the multitrack system with my mixer and mic all plugged in and presents correct. Do I need a new mixer? It only records into the waveform new sound file mode on very low levels, even when clipped on the mixer... My audition is broken.
To set a pre-recording click in Adobe Audition, go to Edit > Preferences > Recording, and enable "Pre-Roll" with the desired number of seconds to give yourself a countdown before starting your podcast recording. Hope this helps!
Great Job. I have been using Adobe Audition since it was bought from Cool Edit Pro and rereleased as Adobe Audition 1.5. It has gotten better over the years. I bought CS6 when it was released, the last full buy out from Adobe. I still use CS6 Collection for most of my media creation. Thank you for the video.
So I just finished up my first podcast. I merged all “my voice” clips on the top main track for easy editing from multitrack to waveform, however, when bringing it back over into multitrack, I hear little bits of buzzing in between speaking points but I do NOT hear them in waveform.
I was able to figure it out. Now currently trying to self teach myself how to edit my podcast, even though I`ve already turned it in, but really wanting to get even better at audio editing@@MikeRussell
Hi there! Yes, you're absolutely correct - the increase in sound from -23 LUFS to -1dB without any other effect is a result of the mastering process in Adobe Audition. Great observation!
To set up 2 mics in Adobe Audition for a podcast with separate tracks, go to Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware, select your input devices for each mic, and create individual tracks for the host and guest to record on.
Yes, the settings and techniques shown in this tutorial can definitely be applied to commercial and narrative voice overs to achieve professional results!
This is so fantastic. I will post the recording I will make in another channel (I paid for publishing rights in Epidemic Sound for one channel, so I will make a dedicated one "TheDNDDMNOOB). THANK YOU, yes, ALL capitals. This has been simple and easy to follow and execute. Thumbs up and a Sub
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled that you found the tutorial helpful and that you're planning to create your own dedicated podcast channel - that's awesome!
Amazing quality video Mr. Mike, thank you so much! It helps me save a lot of time! I watched this video many times also :D I think this chanel deserve 1 milion subs.
Are you talking about recording or editing? You can assign the correct input in the recording settings for the multitrack or if it's editing you can drag the files to whichever tracks you want in the multitrack
Thanks, this is amazing. I was able to reproduce most of the things. Except for one: in the Multitrack Editor... my waves for Guest and Host are just nowhere near to see. So the amplitude is really "low". But it's easy to hear us. Any chance to "zoom" that, so that you can see that?
Yes, you can easily zoom in the Multitrack Editor by using the zoom in/out tools or by using the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl/Cmd +] to zoom in and Ctrl/Cmd + [ to zoom out.
thank you mr russell , your videos are very useful, you channel like an university. i am a big fan of you from iran (i am siyamak manager of fara gasht travel agency). thx God to know you. good luck.
I'm so glad to hear that you're getting great results with the settings - that's what matters most! Let me know if you have any questions about them! :)
If they're in the same room and can hear each other then the guest will not need headphones. If they're recording remote then the guest should wear headphones to stop the sound of the speakers being recorded at their end.
During the fade out, how do you lower the volume of the music to a low level, and not totally out? Like I wanted some quiet background musing going through the whole podcast? Awesome job! I am learning a ton from you!
How do you sync the audio to the video? how do you set the frame rate fps and stuff if you record in audition and how to deal with drifting audio in the video
For your voice, why are you recording a mono signal to a stereo track? And for matching loudness, why didn't you set the LUFs level? Also, is matching loudness useful for music audio, say if you are making a song? I know why you didn't use a compressor - I watched your Rodecaster Pro 2 video ;)
As long as your audio channels are mapped correctly it doesn't matter if you record your voice in mono or stereo. Technically the stereo recorded file is dual mono anyway. The multitrack track armed to record was a stereo track, that's why it's recorded stereo. Normally I would normalise to -16LUFs but for this video I've just used the default in Audition. What you match loudness to is really only important in the final mixdown to ensure your hitting any applicable loudness standards.
@@MikeRussell Yes, that's what I do. After the master is done, I pull the one file in Audition and then set the LUFs level. Thanks for the fast response!
Mike, thank you for your helpful, informative videos. I had a quick question concerning matching clip loudness (segment beginning at 2:25). When I import host audio and match it to the music's loudness, I encounter a slight hissing sound in the voice track whenever the host is speaking - a little bit like the sound of someone ironing in the background. It fades when no speech is outgoing. I'm guessing this may point out an issue in my processing of that host track. Any ideas as to how to prevent that? With thanks.
Thank you for your comment! It seems like the hissing sound might be coming from the processing of your host track. To prevent this, try reducing the noise floor by using noise reduction techniques like spectral editing or applying a noise gate to the host track.
@@MikeRussell Thanks so much, Mike - much appreciated. I think I found the issue in redoing the noise reduction I'd done on the host track. I seem to have 'under-done' the noise reduction, due to a fear of taking out too many frequencies. Going back and being a bit more aggressive with noise reduction has produced host tracks that I can boost without producing the hissing sound. Thanks for taking time to respond!
You will need to identify the noise and remove it at source to get the best quality recording. Any noise reduction will reduce audio quality. I'm afraid there are no shortcuts here
this was so so useful! this was my first time using adobe audition and first time recording and editing a podcast and i think i got it right the first time!! thank you!

Sorry about the trouble! Check Audition's Audio Hardware settings, ensure your mixer is the primary input and update drivers.

It sounds like you may have some effects on the multitrack (like dynamics) that may be enhancing the buzz. I’d say double check the effects rack!

I wonder how the sound can increase from -23 LUFS to -1dB without any other effect, I guess that's the effect of Mastering? Is it right Mr. Mike.

To get best audio quality you would want each guest on their own microphone.

Tip for good music and voice blend. Lower the mid frequencies on the music. Thats where the voice frequencies are and so you separated them more.
Thank you for the tip! Lowering the mid frequencies on the music can help create a better blend for sure!
This is great. Hope you include how to export it. But anyway these really helps. Thanks!

During the fade out, how do you lower the volume of the music to a low level, and not totally out? Like I wanted some quiet background musing going through the whole podcast? Awesome job! I am learning a ton from you!
You could look at side chain compression or using essential sound ducking
Do you edit the podcast after you did: mixdown session to new file -> entire session? Or do you remove the ums and ahs when still in the multitrack?
All editing would be done in the multitrack
Great tutorial! Very excited that I can start podcasting using Adobe Audition.
