    Another tip (directed at myself more than anyone): turn it off. I’ve been realizing lately that I’ve been leaning too much on reverb to prettify otherwise boring sounds. By turning it off, I’m forced to focus on the core sound itself-and then, once it’s ready, I can bring reverb back in and push it in other directions or give it some oomph, if I want. But I realize this is the opposite of what tips 2-5 are about, which is using reverb *as* your core sound. Anyway, great video, as always!

      I was just about to comment something similar to this. I’ll add that we tend to saturate our guitar signal with way too much reverb and it’s not doing us any favors when trying to make that guitar recording sit right in the mix with drums, bass, and keys.

    I take a distortion after an ambient long tailed reverb, dialled to a fully wet mix, into an FX loop on an OBNE pedal, which I then blend back in with my clean signal. I get a cleanish guitar sound with an epic distorted reverb tail. Works nicely on my Pianet too.

    I have a particular pro-tip like the last you say, but i do more: run some effect like a modulation/pitch shifter/octave/bitcrush/ring modulator in a reverb that can cut you dry signal, you literally can create a ambient reverb with you own characteristcs, i put some flanger or pit shifter before the reverb and kill the dry, sounds cool, even more whem you have reverse reverb

    My reverb protip: Change the name of reverb to "vibe" because reverb instantly sets the vibe of whatever you're doing.

    I recently "made" a Flerb that i liked A LOT!....much better than the EHX Holy Grail setting.
    It was just am EHX Holy Stain with mix maxed out and then a Donner Jet Convolution Flanger following the HS; both effects were in one of the BOSS LS-2 loops and the other loop was just dry and running loops in parallel.
    Really good stuff!!!!

  • @onlyusernameleft2
    @onlyusernameleft2 3 месяца назад +1

    I'm commenting twice because I was distracted last time I watched the video. Shimmer reverb sounds good in parallel fully wet. The Boss SY-1 has perfect 5th settings that I put through one loop of an Electro Harmonix Tri Parallel mixer along with the SL-2 and I put a shimmer reverb with the mix set to 100% wet through another. Sometimes I'll do a fuzz at a low volume through the 3rd loop. I've experimented with parallel processing and creative reverb use for a while but about 1/3 of that signal chain was inspired from watching your videos. Huge thanks.

    The vibes are immaculate, great video as always!
    Here's a fun tidbit a I had an absolute blast using - take any reveb that'll do infinite hold (in my case the Red Panda Context V2) and run it into any pedal you can control via expression (filter, volume etc) to make huge, expressive pads - the real revelation came when I used an arrpegiator (in this case the meris ottobit jr, binding the expression to the sequnce speed and amount - basically the more you push, the faster the sequence and the more time it plays in a row) to make this diatonic pitch shifted lo fi - in this case bit crushed and arrpegiated - pad choir effect that is pretty mental.
    Still working on refining that noise...

  • @michaelfowler3187
    @michaelfowler3187 3 месяца назад

    I remember that pedal show - dan in particular, explaining a cool trick he found and I forget the reverb, but he was using one that has a tone/eq feature as well as a pre-delay so that the dry thru / attack was more pronounced, not lost.. but the thing was it had a decent pre delay and almost no decay, with a bright tone setting, and the result was I think after a Fuzz, that you got this top end slap back esque sheen on the notes but the strong low end and dry thru kept it clear. He basically got it to be a slap back with way less percussive sound and more of a spring like reaction.. I forget how it worked but it was something I was inspired by.
    Around that time I was experimenting with delays and reverbs before my envelope filter and the way a reverb can keep a filter open, is really really fun. Kinda makes it more of a wah pedal since it's less snappy and closing fast... fun shtuff.
