such a feast for the eyes I wouldn't be able to pick a favorite color
I have a new favorite hourly, haha
I do love the tour. They are all fantastic blooms
28 Beautiful, you said favorite I think 13 and you said love them alot.
You win!!!
Good evening dear, Mike love you ❤very beautiful flowers 💐 blom God bless you and your family 👪 thanks
Thanks Mustafa, glad you could enjoy the tour
Year after year this never gets old. Watched, listened to several time. Don't remember hearing you ever say ever Kalmia latilolia on one of these tours, it's a 'favorite' of mine. Mine are going now and the late rhododendrons.
I don't have any kalmia but definitely want to get some eventually.
Always my favorite tine of year getting the tour. Im a fan of the orangish to those rose pink to yellow throat. Loder I king George is gorgeous when it gets big and it's limbed up like a big tree and you can look into those beautiful blooms and enjoy the fragrance fantastic
I couldn’t have described it better.
Absolutely amazing ❤.
You have the most awesome property, Mike! Absolutely gorgeous for sure!!
Man, thanks Nick!
My condolences to you and Nate's family
Thank you, he was a great man and will be missed.
Gorgeous!
Thank you! 😊
Wow biggest rhododendron selection
There's certainly a lot of them.
It must be very rewarding to see the fruits of your labor Mike. What a beautiful display of rhododendrons!! You are truly blessed. Family and flowers, what more could you ask for?
Thanks Dirk, I feel blessed. What we've created is certainly a lesson in patience.
Now I know why I can’t decide which one is my favourite.I like them all! Thanks for the tour around your beautiful garden.
That word favorite comes out of my mouth a lot too, haha
Wow Mike I love your flowers , congrats you have a beautiful girl
Thanks so much, Angelica
Gorgeous blooms this year.
Please keep the tours coming. I have one rhododendron that is gorgeous, but now you’ve inspired me to get more! I love the stories you tell about them.
Got another one coming soon.
I always enjoy your toes, even though I’m on the other side of this country and then on the bottom of the country in Florida but I didn’t show you everything that you show me. I wish I could just propagate like you do.
You can, just keep trying
Wonderful❤️👍
Thank you so much for taking us on the tour! In my fantasy Rhododendron bed I would plant Francesca, Tianna, Hackman's Pink Obella, Lady D'Rothschild, Black Widow, and Mrs Charles E Pearson. I said that I would only pick 5 but you know how that goes lol. You had better get busy planting that wedding aisle for Allie - it needs to be mature and in full bloom lol. I just bought a deciduous azalea called "Weton's Lollipop" which is fragrant. You said that the natives are hard to propagate. I hope I can start some of these. My condolences on the loss of your friend Nate.
Thank you Lisa, he was a great man. Yes, the species are tougher to propagate in my experience but I plan to work on air layering them now that they're getting more established in the landscape.
Beautiful.. I absolutely love rhododendrons in the garden! Thank you so much for guiding us through 😊
You're welcome, Paul! I've got another update that I filmed a week later with more blooms. Will post soon.
I love your tour Mike. All those vibrant colours are amazing and they all work together well. That garden is a little piece of heaven man. PS hope u get started on the garden soon so your girls can have their weddings there, with Mikes approval ofc. Cant wait to see more.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Haha, yes, definitely need Mike's approval
looking awesome m8. love these updates. jah blessings!
Right on! Good to hear from you again, Ben.
@@MikeKincaid79 do you have any recommendations for zone 4 rhodies? so far the only ones i can keep alive are the PJM. im in milwaukee, wi. thanks homie!
I just fell in love with your yard. I didn’t think I like Rhododendrons but you just changed my mind. I want some. Especially the fuchsia & white colors.
They truly are an amazing plant and will transform a landscape if given enough time.
Now that was a great tour like they always are 🌺 And definitely not too long of a video It's always hard to lose a good friend 😢
Of all days to show off your beautiful gardens it's thundering and lightening Good of Allie to watch out for you but it wasn't long lived like "oh well hope Dad will be ok but I'm outta here " kids hey? And you may have the first say about the men she meets but let's get real , she's got you wrapped around her little finger but you already know that.I took a peek over your shoulder and saw that amazing house coming to life. You'll be moving in ,in no time🏠 🇨🇦🦩
Thank you for our yearly tour. Beautiful as always. Have you ever had any Blooms on your Sinogrande's?
Not yet. That one is known to take 10 years or more to bloom. It's been close to 10 years and I'm still waiting. I figure I can't sell this place and retire until it blooms, hahaha.
Loved this video, so many wonderful blooms! ❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Make a calendar for when the different ones bloom, so you can get them when they are in bloom.
It changes by a week or 2 from year to year, depending on the weather.
awesome as always. you could definitely rent the space for wedding photos
I may get into that at some point.
I had trouble with deer. I started feeding them C.O.B. a corn oat barley tossed in molasses. Now they eat the cob and leave the trees alone.
Now that's not a bad idea. Maybe the deer and I need to work together on this, lol.
It is just beautiful their is so much to take in and I’m sure in person it is so breathtaking and I bet the smell is just out of this world as ya walk threw and by the way ur house is looking just great and I bet ya just can’t wait to be in it but the sad side to it is all the memories in the other house will be gone when ur all moved in the new one but like ur daughter said ya can make it set up to have her get married in the garden you have time to have her pick out what ones she wants so ya can set it all up for the big day down the road lol have a good one Mike and enjoy the garden I’ll go for 35 on favorite and 26 for the other
Hahahaha, thanks for the guess! Yeah, I hear ya on the memories. The property is what it's really all about. We're looking forward to getting rid of this mobile home headache. After 17 years of water pipe, septic, pipe, roof leaking, and mold issues, we're ready to get rid of this thing.
@@MikeKincaid79 oh ya then it is a good time for the new house then didn’t know it was to the point where it was giving ya a problem I’ve lived in mobile homes for most of my adult life I’m 62 so ya I know what problems they. Have but I’ve been lucky I worked in the construction field so I had a way to fix before it got bad but now I’m in a wheelchair it’s a lot different I have to have someone do it for me now but all is good again so happy for ya all hope ur in the new one soon god willing
Hi Mike, this is so beautiful... would be amazing to see a drone shot of the whole garden at this time of the year.
I've thought about this and really need to get a drone for that reason.
This is a FANTASTIC idea!!
I added Flaming Star to my “get” list!
It's a must have!
Don't be afraid to take cuttings from your rhodies, when you do they send forth a ton of growth. It is well worth the pain of pruning! They also tend to grow back much denser.
Yes, for sure. There are a few varieties that I worry about with heavy pruning and that Midnight Mystique is one of them.
I appreciate your passion for the Rhododendrons. I am in Pittsburgh's climate zone. Will all these varieties handle zone 6?
Yes, there are several that will handle down to -25 F. Nova Zembla is the first to come to mind.
You made a comment about your Midnight Mystque being a work in progress in one of your recent videos. I was talking with some people todays as I have concerns about mine growing so leggy. They told me the story that the person that bred this plant was in to much of a hurry to name it. They should have waited until it was well established and then name it " Midnight Mistake".
🤣. I love the flower but the plant is way too open and leggy.
Why not graft that Senator Jackson to another rooted cutting? I kept trying to root cuttings from a public flame azalea but no luck so grafted the flame azalea to my white azaleas . I might try a air layer once it gets larger.
I've considered it.
Brother Mike your area spring weather in June month
Hi mike
Heres one for you, i live in uk and we have a plant here as i know it as the californian lilac?
Wonder if you ever done any cuttings on those or if you fancy taking up the challenge to do some?
Trev
I stumbled on those plants for the first time a couple years ago in Canon Beach, Oregon. I definitely want to get one of those here at some point.
Hey bud. Great job. Just wondering can I take burning bush cuttings now Oct 4 or too late in year?
You can but they'll take longer to root, you may need bottom heat, and you'll have to keep them warm all winter. I'd wait until late winter and take hardwood cuttings at that time and place on bottom heat.
Mr. Kincaid have not seen any videos of yours in a while 🤔 hope all is well!
Just taking a break. This is the longest break I’ve taken in about 6 years. I better get back at it before people come to my door with pitchforks.
Do you, or should we, prune Rhododendrons after they bloom? Should we pinch off the dead blooms? Do you prune to shape any or all of them?
Deadheading will promote stronger new growth. You can lightly prune them after they bloom but heavy pruning should be done in winter during dormancy. You can prune to any shape or style you like, that's the beauty of plants and pruning.
AmazinG! Do U Sale?
Not at this time but I have plans to in the future.
Why would one particular Rhododendron be attacked by lacewings or another pest, but not plants growing right next to it?
Another mystery that I wish I knew the answer to. On the other hand, it's nice that this is the way it is or else I'd lose all my rhododendrons.
I’m in high ph country, would you recommend amending the soil or container planting?
I recommend heavy mulch with organic material that will break down slowly, such as bark or wood chips. This promotes fungal growth, which promotes acidity in the soil. That's the long range plan. In the short term, fertilize with a slow release fertilizer that's formulated for acid loving plants like rhododendrons and azaleas.
So say youall.
You must have acidic soil… my soil is alkaline so hard to have these in my garden 😢
Soil becomes acidic over time when it is mulched and left undisturbed. Carbon mulch attracts fungus, and fungi create an acidic environment as it breaks down carbon. When we till, it kills the fungi and invites bacteria, which creates a more alkaline soil. That's one consideration. The other is that my property is heavily forested with fir trees that have dropped needles for decades, creating an acidic soil. You can create acidic soil though, simply by mulching with carbon materials and giving it time. Good luck
You are taller so you are the lightning rod lol
I'm happy to report that no Mikes were harmed in the making of this video
Looks like Kimberly needs to find a new home not that I am opposed to the good judgement of the Mrs. Where can I get one of those red beauties in Canada?
Haha, I'm going to have to take cuttings and replant someplace else. Not sure where to find it in Canada.
CUT THAT SCRAGGLY RODDY BACK BY 2/3 RDS, JUST ABOVE A LEAF NODE; PLANT THE CUTTINGS!!!!! (MARLEY?)
Yeah, it definitely need a haircut.
I don't know how you have the time for all you do. Your landscape is something you would find at a national garden with a whole crew taking care of it.
Thanks, James. I wish I had more time to make it even better. Once I get things pruned up again and re-mulched, I think the weeds will be less of a problem.
@@MikeKincaid79 the darn weeds are a never ending battle. I brought in close to 100 yards of wood chips for my garden last year plus I take car loads of boxes home from the hospital every week to put down and the weeds still find a way.
I like the daughter dad communication, you sre a blessed dad.
Love your garden.
Thanks so much Alice!
I've only commented once before but I have to tell you first your little girls are beautiful you can see how much they love their Dad and they're so smart. I thoroughly enjoy your Rhododendron tours your yard is like paradise with everything in bloom. Thank you for all your sharing!!! God bless!
Thank you so much! I appreciate your nice comment and I'm glad you enjoy the tours.
Beautiful flowers but even more beautiful daughter. What a sweet young lady! I love how she is with you to make sure you don't get struck by lightning!
My girls are great. They're always looking out for Dad
That Unique Marmalade looks like a salmon color on my screen, beautiful!
Yeah, it does have that effect. If you like salmon colored rhododendrons, check out Lem's Tangerine. Mine is in full bloom right now and absolutely amazing!
WOW!! that is so awesome to see all those blooms popping out. You have the greatest Mother’s Day flower display there ever was. All that work you have done is amazing to see. I hope your kids are interested in following in your footsteps. Hope the house build is going great for you. Best of luck to you all!
I sure hope one of them picks up on it and appreciates what we've created here. If not, I'll sell everything, buy and rv, and travel the country, haha. The build is moving along but not much to see right now. I'll have an update soon. Thanks Robert!
In your opinion, why are some varieties more difficult to propagate than others?
I wish I had an opinion on that, I'd fix the problem, haha. Not sure, but may be something to look into. I suppose I could go through the tougher to root varieties and try to draw a conclusion on it.
Are they related to azaleas? They are the showcase flowers here in Southern Mississippi. Stunning rhododendrons!
Yes, they are! Azaleas are a subspecies of rhododendron.
Mike show a video about rooting azaleas, and can you root them in sand
I love your passion and love of your garden ❤️
It's my sanctuary
Mike your garden is amazing I only have15ft x 20ft a garden that size is a dream. Your fig tree video is brilliant when you root a log 😂
It's crazy watching this video after the week later growth video. Its like an explosion of growth spurts everywhere. It was amazing, 😳 I noticed it right away in this one there was less blooms. I can't choose a favorite though, theres no way. The garden tours are so awesome. 👍
Wow ! Everything looks awsome❤
Beautiful rhodies! I especially love the peach-colored ones. I assume most of these are 8-10 years old(?) I garden in newly-updated zone 8A in NC and the recent deep freezes killed the bloom buds on my two Taurus rhodies. I was so looking forward to their blooms this spring. Your rhodie gardens are the most beautiful such ones I've ever seen! 👍
Thanks so much! Yes, the peach colored blooms are always a big hit with people. This is our shangri-la and we intend on its continued development for many more years. Some of these rhododendrons are closer to 16 years old or maybe even 17, many are in the 8 to 10 year range. Sorry to hear about the deep freeze. We just went through that too. You never know, they're pretty hardy and may bloom for you. The worst freezes are the ones that happen in spring after the buds start swelling and the plants wake up.
I Love u ❤️❤️❤️🙈🙈🌱🥰😘
WOW Mike !!!!!!! In a few days more that will be very impressive with many colors ...... You are a lucky man ...... Who wants paradise ? ......🤣😂🤣🤣😂
Yep, we've got it right here.
Love it! Thanks for the tour
You're welcome!
Mike, every time I see your gorgeous rhododendrons in full glorious bloom, I must admit that I get a tad bit jealous. My PJ M Rhododendron was loaded with blooms early this spring for the first time, and then a hard extended freeze (19°-21° F.) killed all the buds. My only other rhododendron (I don't know the name of it) in a more protected area of my yard bloomed for the very first time... gorgeous huge blooms on a very small plant. According to my research the PJM blooms again in late fall but that's never happened for me. I think I need to move it to a better location, and although the shrub is over 20 years old it's only about 18" tall. It had an extremely hard life... between my neighbor's lawn mower and 15 kids in a half-block area, it's been struggling. Blessings to your sweet family ...and Mike, didn't your parents tell you to go indoors when a storm is coming? LOL ~Margie🤣😂💐
Haha, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I survived the storm! That I know of, PJM doesn't bloom in the fall, but there are varieties that do. Elizabeth is the one that stands out most to me and has many blooms in the fall once it gets established.
Oh my gosh absolutely amazing. It was worth the wait to see this video. So totally jealous. Hi Ally!! Good helper. I’m going to start propagating when I find some. I have several favorites. Do they need shade???
They definitely prefer some shade, especially in the heat of the day.
I would worry about you being struck as well. After all, you're taller and have a lot of brass :)
I hear that beautiful sound, the rumble of thunder! Hope we get a super-abundance of rain this monsoon season. BTW, that rock @ 46:57 needs a bush growing partially over it. It'll happen, I know. Just think in generations to come, your garden will be a tourist stop. ! niio, nieto.
I often wonder what this place will become after 50 or 75 years. Wonder if it'll be a beautiful garden or a parking lot, lol.
Such a beautiful garden! Im takin notes! Haha! I Love to propogate so im really stoked to check out your website. Man, i just love your content, Its so wholesome.
Sorry for the loss of your friend but glad to know hes in the rest and peace of God through the resurected Jesus Christ. Man, you can see it in his countenance. What a happy joyfull looking guy. I cant wait to meet him! Blessings to you and his family
He was a wonderful man. Thank you.
Mike I just really really like this plant just love it this plant at 23:53 . Did you propagate more? I want it so good. Is call Dell Raelly?
‘Del’ is the name and yes it’s a beauty!
grow native wildflowers, depending on where you live they are a pain to grow, but once you understand them its easy and you'll get tons of native insects. Grow natives not nativars
If they're native, why are they a pain to grow?
Beautiful 😍 really enjoyed watching all those beautiful blooms😊
Glad you enjoyed it, Lynda
Hi Mike, nothing better than this plants, I asked you long time ago if you sell some, I ask again, can you sell me some please, I love rhododendron
I don't have any for sale right now. I primarily sell wholesale and just sold a huge amount of them.
Are these related to the oleander? The flower variation within the species is interesting. Some look like hibiscus some oleander and others azaleas. Amazing. That was lovely Mike thank you
They aren't officially related but I like to think of them as cousins, lol. They're like the desert version of rhododendrons and if I ever moved back to Arizona, I'd be growing oleander.
Are all of your Rhododendrons suitable to grow in the same growing zones? Do they all require the same watering? Why do particular varieties not bloom well in certain years? Is there any way to prevent this?
All the varieties I have grow well in my area, however, some do better in more sun and some in more shade. I'm in zone 8b.
When I see Rhododendrons at a nursery they are covered in buds and the shrub is tight and rounded. What is done to create this type of shrub? I notice that your beautiful property is covered with shrubs that are grown in their “natural” shape/ form.
The rhododendrons that you see at the nursery are typically grown in full sun with constant irrigation. The sun keeps them short and compact and full. It also promotes tons of blooms. I don't like that look. The flowers look nice but the plant and leaves look sun checked. It's more economical to grow them this way out in a field but I prefer the natural growth habit in the woodland setting. That's where rhododendrons are most at home.
Some of the harder to root varieties might have better results from air layer. I've seen rhododendron naturally ground layer.
I'm definitely going to be air layering my species rhododendrons as they get larger.
Hey, Mike,
For those of us not in the PNW can we buy bark fines and use for rooting cuttings or does it need to be composted first?
Use fresh material, not composted. I suppose you can buy it if you can find it but fir bark isn't necessary. I have a video on my feelings about rooting medium: ruclips.net/video/eLXHy4A4-xk/видео.html
Loving the long tours, it takes me 2 parts, cuz i got a little one in the house. Everything looks lush a healthy!!
Right on, Michele! Glad you enjoyed it. This is the best time of year in my area. It's so green right now.
Oh Mike your garden is beautiful!!! Everything blooming. Thanks for sharing it's always nice to see what your up to.
Hi Allie! 😊 What an amazing work of art! Just beautiful 😍 I really like Flaming Star and Apricot Fantasy . They're all very pretty ☺
Those are all so healthy - what is the location of your garden
Thanks! I'm in Washington State, about a 30 minute drive east of Olympia.
What growing zone are you in? Which state?
Washington State, zone 8b, near Olympia.
thanks! beautiful garden..
Thanks Rick!
How do you remember all the variety names?
I really don't know, lol
Your flowers are so beautiful, I wish I could grow them her in San Antonio Texas. I just love all the beautiful colors.
You can grow oleander. That's what I'd be doing down there. Oleander and figs
Oh yeah, and Mexican Bird of Paradise!
Lamb's Cameo is a beauty!
Lem's Cameo. Yes, she is a nice one. Many other varieties were created with that one in their genetic line.
Where can I get that “Francesca “ deep red variety? Amazing plants.
Rainier Rhododendrons might have one.
@@MikeKincaid79 Thank you!
Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing Mike and Ally! Next time please stay inside when thunders! Great video Mike like always, is fun to see you and Ally❣️🌸 You better get busy and plant that bridal alley because you don't have much time! Hugs 🤗❤🤗
The sparcy one put something by it that will grow in and fill the empty spaces.
I like Dell!!! Sorry for your friend! God bless and comfort Nate's family 🙏 ❤
Haha, I know! These girls are growing so fast. I figure I've got them for a few more years and then they won't be able to stand me anymore, lol.
Your rhodies are spectacular! Like the way you grouped them and have landscaped the various clusters with grassy walkways. It is absolutely lovely.
We love it!
I finally got to watch the rest of this one, and I loved it, that really dark red one is beautiful, they are all so beautiful and all my favorite, I can not help myself. I am truely sorry about your friend, I hope his wife is coping well, I will keep them in my prayers, love to you and your family💖💖💖
Thanks Glenda. She’s doing ok and has a lot of family support. Good to hear from you. One of these days I need to get pics of your plants for you.
Thanks!
Cathy, thank you so much for the contribution! It's people like you that I do this for. God bless you and enjoy your spring and summer!
You have helped me out do much with my propagation it’s my way of thanking you.
Sorry you lost your friend Nate. ❤️🩹 He looked like a happy man who lived his best life.
He really was a great man. Loved that old boy and he will be missed.
