Hi Mike- thank you for taking the time to put this out- we all have missed you! Today is my dads birthday (lost him 2 years ago) that old farmer would have turned 80 down here with us. But what brings me solace is knowing that he is with HIS MOM & DAD-brother, sister, nieces and nephews that went before him celebrating in heaven. Boy did they know how to celebrate, didn't even need a reason! lol Your dad is with you as you go through this...please know this, one day I can tell you how I know...but I do know...they stay with us until were ok-then they come back when we call out to them. In our heads of course, that would be weird if we did it in public-prolly lock us up! ha! My thoughts have been with you and your family...take care- Tonia

Thanks for the walk-through, Mike. That last one is one of my favorites. The two-tone, large, smooth petals are so beautiful. For some reason, the word “parfait” comes to mind when I see that one. The deep red variety…striking! And some of the lighter ones were so delicate looking. I still say you should be hosting events there!
Awesome, thank you for the tour. Only my Mardi Gras Rhododendron is in full bloom, so I’m glad I can enjoy your until the rest of mine start to bloom. 😊
You should. I like it because the flowers are beautiful and the leaves are brown on the underside like a magnolia tree or teddy bear. Yhe two tone leaves just add an extra element to the cultivar.
Thanks Mike. I love Rhodies but, my water situation is somewhat limited. I just can't justify a major irrigation instillation running on my neighbors well. Are big tree Rhodies more drought tolerant?
It’s best if you can find a shady spot that’s at least 20 to 30 feet from the trunk of a tree. That way it gets the shade but not the tree roots sucking all the ground moisture up. Mulch deeply after you plant. You shouldn’t have to water as much. Yes, larger tree like rhododendrons seem to do well with less water once established.

Thank you Mike!! So good to hear you again!! Hopefully we will again very soon, and perhaps even get to see you as well like before the hiatus! Looking forward to it!! Question; I moved to the East Coast, zone 7b. nowhere near any brackish water, but definitely lots of rain and clay. I have both sun and shade. Which rhododendrons would you suggest for out here?? I don’t see many of them, and owners don’t know the names when I do see rhodes, but since there are some at all it gives me hope!!
There are rhododendron species that grow wild over there so you should be able to find a few at least. Just look up rhododendron species on the east coast and they should pop up.
Yes! We get so many bees around here. In the spring, on a hot day, you hear nothing but bees buzzing around. The cool thing is that there are all kinds of native bees along with some honey bees.
Im loving your Rhodies Mike!! I live in landown under Tasmania! We have lots of Rhododendron places here! Hope to connect at some point soon to talk plants Mike! Cheers Neysan
I visited Hobart, Tasmania back in January 2001, when I was in the Navy. Beautiful place and people. Only wish I'd been this into plants back then and visited some gardens.
I love your garden tours! I am not sure of the names of my rhododendrons as they were here when I bought my place. Love them all. I have a whole row of a pastel purple 12-15 feet tall. One is growing awkwardly due to a overgrown tree we took out a couple years ago and I hope it will fill in now that it has some light. I also found a plant tag that the bark had grown over…it was unreadable. Could you tell me the name of your rhododendron at 16:19? I couldn’t hear, and rewinded video.
In the video, I called it 'Big Sam x Lem's Cameo', which is the parentage. The given name for that plant or "cross" is 'Naselle' if you're looking for it at a nursery.
HI MIKE I TOOK CUT LITTLE BRANCH NORTH FORK FOR LITTLE WHILE AFTER 5 DAYS PLANT IT IN TINY POT WET SOIL BUT IT HELPS TO STAY ALIVE IT STILL GREEN IT STILL DOING BETTER AND I CAN'T TRANT PLANT YET NOT TIL GROW BIG AND MY BABY NORTH FORK DID NOT GROW RIGHT I GRAB BRANCH INTO BIG STIM SO IT WILL GROWS TALL AND TALL LOVE DAVID😀🥰😀🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hi Mike I love my rhodies but need some advise. I have a row of "Roseum Elegans" growing under my livingroom window and would like to have them grow up to the bottom of the window. Problem is that they appear to be spreading sideways instead of up. Would love to send you a picture so you can see what I'm talking about and advise.
I know what you’re talking about. I have that same variety. The best way to encourage upright growth is to prune the bottom branches back so more energy goes to the middle and higher branches.
Hi Mike, I just jumped onto the band wagon. I live in Phoenix AZ right in the middle of the hottest heat. New gardener and all, besides roses what kind of flowers would be hardy enough to plant here.
Mexican bird of paradise. Probably my all time favorite flowering plant in the desert. I’m from Phoenix so I totally understand the heat. Oleander is another if you want larger shrubs that create privacy.
Hello, Mike. Your gardens are positively stunning. Because of you, I started my very first rhododendron propagation project, last year. The cuttings seem to have survived the winter. I do have a question, though. I have read that rhododendrons are extremely toxic to humans and pets. I've never seen you wear gloves and see how you love smelling their fragrances. 😊 How terrified should I be? Many blessings to you and your family and may your heart heal from your loss. My prayers are with you. I started a memorial garden of flowers and plants to help me through grieving after the passing of my Brother, Father, and Mom. There's just something in the process of choosing their favourite colour or flower or bush that brings joy. ❤
Thank you so much Darlene. I'm getting there slowly but surely. As far as the rhododendrons, I've been working with them for close to 19 years and I'm still here to talk about it. No third arms either! Hahaha. No worries on the toxic part unless you're planning to eat them. I touch them, rub all over them when pruning, and never had a problem, not even the slightest rash. Interestingly enough, honey made from rhododendron pollen is called "mad honey". It's hallucinogenic and is harvested in regions like Nepal, where rhododendrons grow all over and are native to the area. They use the honey for spiritual and cultural purposes. Fun fact.
@@MikeKincaid79 Thank you for taking the time to reply. You are a funny soul. While rhododendrons are beautiful, they won't be on my menu. 😊 That was quite the fun fact you added. Hahaha. Take care and be well.
Yes! That’s what I mainly do. Take semihardwood cutting in late summer and use bottom heat through the winter. I go into great detail in the paid videos on my website.

Wrapped up in lots of things. Good to hear from your Carmine.
We missed you, Mike! But how is the house & Chinese Elm doing? Hope all is well.
How about a few slips of those 😂 I'm in NL and lost every one of my cuttings 😢
You have a really beautiful place, I was curious if honeybees like any of those
Oh wow u made it to Tassie that is impressive! Mike do you have a website for your nursery?
Cheers Neysan
Nice!!! 😎👍👍
Hi Mike
Wow, the rhododendrons are looking fantastic. How is the house build ? Been going? Nice to see you back on RUclips hope everything is okay.🎉
It’s all cranking right now. Hoping to move in this June.
ehy m8! good to see ya post again. jah blessings to you!
Haha, there you are! Better get those green giant vids going
@@MikeKincaid79 ha! that's right! you know im peepin those in the background!

Beautiful tour! Do you have any tips on propagating a flowering almond? I have tried and tried with no success.
Never tried it but if I come across a tree I’ll put my mind to it.
Nice to see you posting again. I was about to put you on a milk carton! Lol, kidding kinda 😊
😆🤣
Hi Mike I love my rhodies but need some advise. I have a row of "Roseum Elegans" growing under my livingroom window and would like to have them grow up to the bottom of the window. Problem is that they appear to be spreading sideways instead of up. Would love to send you a picture so you can see what I'm talking about and advise.
I know what you’re talking about. I have that same variety. The best way to encourage upright growth is to prune the bottom branches back so more energy goes to the middle and higher branches.
Rhododendrons are majestic guys!, to bad we have such an alkaline soil and cant grow them...
You can always amend the soil
If don't already have one you should get a drone and do aerial videos of your whole property while in bloom!
Don't have one but thats a fantastic idea!
Really enjoy your videos, I have the addiction also
I knew you propagated these from past videos but had no idea you had so many growing in your yard.
Gotta be close to 1000 of them, with plans to double that or more.
Hi Mike. Beautiful rhodies. Can you propagate rhodes?
Yes! That’s what I mainly do. Take semihardwood cutting in late summer and use bottom heat through the winter. I go into great detail in the paid videos on my website.
Do you ship your plants? If not do you have any recommendations for who is a reliable online supplier of rhododendrons?
No hew house construction update Mike? ohhhh.... maybe a quick update in the next video?...
We'll get there
