    Hi Paul, your garden is beautiful! I just had to share this with you... I was watching your video when my grandson crawled up on my lap to watch it with me. He was watching Paw Patrol (a cartoon) He kept pointing at the screen and saying flowers! Then smelling the screen...I’m secretly hoping to turn him into a gardener! You should feel proud that you are more interesting than Paw Patrol to a 3 year old! Thanks for the videos! Love from Wisconsin

    Always love your garden Paul but this time of the year is my favourite. Your Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Weigelas look amazing. I managed to buy another Avalanche Clematis from Gordale last week. I'm going to keep it in a pot this time. Isn't it nice hearing the birds? I was given a bird feeder for Christmas and I'm getting better at recognising all the visitors. I've got loads of Starlings and it's so cute watching the adults feeding their babies. Let's hope the good weather continues as we've waited long enough.

    • @paultsworld
      @paultsworld  8 месяцев назад +1

      I wish you good luck with your ‘Avalanche’ Wendy - it can be a slow grower but it’s worth the wait.
      A bird feeder will really up the variety of birds into your garden.
      Those starling chicks are enthusiastic about life - hope you’ve got ear plugs! 😀
      I am loving this warm weather - just perfect for me.

    We have them wild up on the mountains and when I drove up there end of April and beginning of May there were hundreds of pink and white bushes in bloom. Now they are finished. This is Korinthia County, Greece.

    Your garden is so lovely; thank you for sharing! Spring is my favorite season and I suppose one of the reasons is the blooming rhodos and azaleas. I have a deep pink deciduous azalea and the spicy fragrance is intoxicating and it fills my back yard with that lovely scent. Your vast collection has me wishing for many more azaleas and rhododendrons for my garden.

    • @paultsworld

    Wonderful video, so many colors in the garden can’t help but delight us after a long winter. I have a Bieberstein plant growing, it grows very quickly, I grew it from seeds, I recommend using it to retain moisture, it is ideal as a ground cover plant that retains moisture near the ground.

    Hi Paul, I always enjoy your garden tours. I think May is my favourite month in the garden. I love the Azaleas. You must have low pH soil. Do you prune the Azaleas after they have flowered or just leave them? Shame about the white Hydrangea being in the wrong place. 😕 I have potted on the Angel Trumpet it seemed to double in size overnight. 😊

    • @paultsworld
      @paultsworld  8 месяцев назад +1

      Congratulations in getting your Angel's Trumpet to really get going - sky's the limit now!
      I just leave the azaleas - the spent flowers will drop off. I tend not to prune the azaleas - but some people like them nicely rounded so a light prune would do now.

    You must have fairly acidic soil to grow so many azalea

    • @paultsworld
      @paultsworld  8 месяцев назад

      It certainly must be on the acidic side but not by much as many of my hydrangeas are pink rather than blue. But certainly these acid loving woodland plants do well in my garden.

      You’re welcome.
      In my view anything can be grown in a pot - if the pot is big enough and it gets plenty of food and water. So yes, try a weigela in a pot…big pots make big plants. Good luck.

    As always, your garden is looking beautiful Paul! I’ve recently moved house, so just trying to get to grips with my new garden & clay-type soil. I’ve been thinking of making a new garden bed in the middle of the lawn, but I’m hesitating … what if it’s in the wrong place? … what if I don’t like it? etc … I think I just need to take the plunge and do it!

    • @paultsworld
      @paultsworld  7 месяцев назад +1

      I totally understand your hesitation on a lawn bed. First, I think lawn beds really add to the look of a garden. They break up the 'football pitch' look.
      First lay out a hose in the shape you are thinking - live with that for a week or so. Move it a few times - make it bigger - smaller.
      What I really like about my lawn bed is that it made a pathway round the garden - somewhere to walk round. I like a lawn bed to be nearish to other beds to make this 'path'. I personally don't like a lawn bed bang in the middle of the lawn - but some people favour this more formal look.
      What do you think of my lawn bed? Size? Positioning? Size of plants? Shrubs or perennial flowers?
      Go for it Lindsay! ;-)

    • @willowgrove631
      @willowgrove631 7 месяцев назад

      @@paultsworld thanks so much for this advice Paul! Great idea to mark it out with the hose first, and as you say “live with it” for a while. I agree about it creating a path around the garden and breaking up the expanse of lawn. I really like your garden bed - especially as it’s not symmetrical and it gives some height and interest to the centre of the garden. I would love a pond too - first things first! I will let you know how I get on 😊

      A lawn bed will make your garden ‘cozy’ pretty quickly - do let me know how it goes - I was amazed how quickly the plants grew and the bed looked mature. 👍🌸

    Could I ask what variety is the cystus?

      I have just looked up your suggestions - they are an ideal choice, I like the idea of bright leaves as it's a dark area.

    Glad your foot’s getting better!!
    Your garden is looking amazing, as ever! I bought a weigela last year and it suddenly died this spring. Dunno what I did wrong there..??!! 🥴
    Ooh I’ve just thought: my little azalea is finishing flowering? Should I deadhead it? If so, should I prune or just snap spent flowers off, which do you recommend? You’re the expert, boss!! 👍🏻☺️

    • @paultsworld
      @paultsworld  8 месяцев назад +1

      Sorry to hear about the weigela - I also have had a number of plants die - sometimes we will never know unfortunately.
      Because the spent flowers on the azaleas are so small I don't deadhead them - I simply leave them to fall off. You can prune the azaleas to tidy them up but I leave mine to 'meander' - if a branch is unruly I might just snip it off. If you would like your plant to look nicer you could gently pick off the dried flower petals with your fingers.
      Ha, ha - don't know about the 'expert' bit ;-) I'm a trial and error man

      The problem is that the spoken audio is coming out of the left channel only which I would suggest might be the result of putting your voice on a stereo audio channel in your editing software when it should go on a mono channel to play through both channels. Try listening on headphones/earphones to hear what I mean.

    13.37 Well, hydrangea comes from the greek word ύδωρ ,ythor meaning water. It needs a lot of water and shade. I was kind of sad when you said, " It's got to go" .

    • @paultsworld
      @paultsworld  8 месяцев назад +1

      That’s a good point and an appropriate name, however hydrangeas were not named because they need plenty of water.
      The botanist Grovonius in 1739 named it hydrangea because he thought the flowers looked like an ancient water pitcher.
      Combining the words 'hydro' (=water) and 'angeion' (=barrel or pitcher) resulted in the name Hydrangea.
      It is sad that a plant has to be dug up but it will be more healthy in its new location.
