    the steps:
Aquaponics system, everything you need to know to start Aquaponics garden
from building the system Cycling Your Garden
I’ll tell you the major types of fish used in aquaponics
    Aquaponics system at home
For this system I’m going to use 55-gallon Plastic Barrel
    A popular, low-cost option
many early aquaponics gardeners have used 55-gallon plastic barrel
Most aquaponics gardeners use blue barrels.
Black is often used for chemicals that are not food safe
White barrels may not block light sufficiently to prevent algae growth, and you may need to paint them on the outside.
In order to use 55-gallon barrels for your system, you’ll need to cut them
Mark at 7 inches from the edge of the barrel.
Use a flexible ruler and draw a circle.
    These barrels are thick,
Draw the shape you want, square, rectangle, circle …
You need leave 2 inches from the top and 1.5 Ft from the barrel bottom.
And so we are done with the tank
    Next the grow bed
Use silicone and seal the drum Cap
Make sure the silicone is safe for fish
I’m going to make this bed flood and drain using Auto-Siphon.
Why Flood and Drain Your Media Beds?
Your plant roots need water and nutrients, but they also need oxygen.
When you flood your media bed-fill the bed with water -from your fish tank which is rich in nutrients.
When you drain your media bed-suck out the water-
air will rush into the spaces between the rocks in your grow bed.
Air is 21 percent oxygen, and that oxygen will dissolve
in the water remaining on the surfaces of the rocks and roots
and can be absorbed by the living things in your grow bed.
These will include your plant roots and the bacteria
    thanks for watching

Hi, thanks for the video! Why did you add another extra filter? The grow medium should be enough right? Also, is a fiber not easier than add a filter in de bottom of the tank? Wierd question: to increase acid is urine also an option?

    • @DIYGARDENWITHBB
      @DIYGARDENWITHBB  Год назад

i added filter to remove the hard waste , so the grow bed will be our bio filter .
yes urine in an option, i recommend to add 2 or 3 dead fish 🐠.

I'm guessing, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong; but because of the size of the barrel this will limit the size that the fish stock would grow to?

What amount of pure liquid ammonia can be added to the water? also, can the ammonia de added while the fish is still in the water? I got tilapia from a close by lagoon but from 3 fishes i got just 1 survived. I used purified water on the barrel, since the tilapia are fresh water fish.

better cycle your system before adding the fish , ammonia is very toxic for the fish you can watch my this video more details:

Correct me if i am wrong.
The reason why there is no airpump introduced in this video is because the water following down from the grow bed created air bubble. Which is why there is no need for a air pump for the fish?
