New element discovered: Tech
Electricity + Metal
I do like metal..🤘
@@CynicalWarlock It's Earths harder, and edgy older brother. Who hogs the TV remote. Rather watching a Metallica concert instead of a shopping channel solely focused on diamond watches.
@@scourgeanimations444 And wears cologne between his legs.
Actually, the equation to create tech is:
Earth÷Sand×1.5+Fire×4+Water=Metal
Metal+Force×4+Illusion×4+Lightning×2 =Tech
A very METAL video focusing on some of the oddest TECHniques in Mortal Kombat.
I see what you did there.
wait deadass, me and my friend are talking about this right now when you released this 😭
Heh, still got it.💪
Jax having crazy ass cool metal arms is probably the least insane thing in Mortal Kombat
Truth. Prosthetic arms like those will probably be a thing, eventually.
Minus the firepower.
@@CynicalWarlock lol nah, we all know people will me making guns for their arms, or maybe mini guns that are built into the arms, eventually. Give it a few years, at most a decade.
@@SozioTheRogue Yeah, who am I kidding, we're all gonna kill each other.
@@SozioTheRogue this is the most 'MERICA thing ever
@@EMdemo lol yeah. But aye, cyberpunk 2077 is basically where we're headed, especially with gangs and cops. But, it'll be more like a relatively sane full on borg, or as close to full metal homie at the top, then, people who have less firepower below them.
I'd actually disagree about the Cyber Initiative enhancing whatever powers you had originally, because as far as we know, the exact opposite happened. AFAIR, the OT made it a plot point that your innate abilities, like cryomancy, stem from the natural flow of chi, and the cyberization process (getting your organs scooped out, your brain effectively reformatted, and your soul erased/suppressed) messes all of this up. So the abilities that the borgs have are basically ad-hoc mechanical approximations of what they used to be able to do pre-conversion (i.e. Cyrax used to weave chi nets out of thin air, now he shoots some plasma shit out of his chest). That's what Cyber Smoke's entire nanomachine subplot from MKD-MKA was about. It's just a crude replica of his innate ability.
but Cyber Sub zero is stronger than his original form showcased by him beating two shokans and Ermac and Saibot besides we both know the cryomancy started as an innate ability exclusively related to the Sub Zero family due to being descended from an Outworld race of Cryomancers, the edenian schtick was an MK11 retcon so neither Sub zero's use chi thats every other fighter.
So the Edenian Cryomancer thing is a retcon. Never researched that.
Cyberization doesn't make much sense, then. You can just make bots and give them those synthetic powers. You don't have to gut the entire human branch of your company.
@@CynicalWarlock Correct, the only way it makes sense is if the Lin Kuei technicians CAN'T just make everyone a mass-produced goonbot with the power of all powers (other than "it'd be boring as shit"). The conversion process may irreparably fuck up your chi and deprive you of whatever powers you originally had, but there has to be some some degree of latent mastery or elemental affinity that survives the conversion, or else the LK wouldn't go through the effort of giving the smoke nanobots to the grey borg and no-one else (that's also why Triborg is a terrible concept for a character, but that's beside the point).
That's always how I reasoned it out for myself. Even if, say, Cyber Zero can't naturally create ice anymore, his body still retains a kind of phantom muscle memory that would let him wield a technological approximation of his original powers in a much more optimized, efficient, creative, and ultimately deadly manner compared to a mass-produced mook with a built-in coolant supersoaker. After all, he spent his whole life building his entire fighting style around his powers, it'd just be wasteful not to capitalize on it.
Like, I don't think the initiates losing their powers in the process was ever the INTENT of the program, right? That'd be retarded. No, I think that was an unexpected roadblock they ran into when they started experimenting, so they had to come up with an ad-hoc workaround.
@@tonyinfinite5174 >beating two shokans
I don't think we're meant to take any of it at face value, or else we'd be forced to assume that Cyber-Zero is literally the greatest fighter to have ever lived across the realms, greater than Liu Kang at his prime even (only to get punk'd out by Sindel punching him in the nose a chapter later). Jobbing and inconsistent power levels have always been an issue in the NRS era, but in MK9 specifically it has reached comedic levels.
I also don't see why Sub's cryomancer heritage and the chi-based nature of his powers have to be mutually exclusive. Think Naruto - all of ninjutsu is chi-based by definition, it's just that some families have unique genetic bloodline limits that are then passed from generation to generation.
I can definitely agree with this video, especially with how Jacqui was just given a chest full of gadgets to compensate for a hollow personality.
I honestly think I'd like her more if she wasn't related to Jax, just some random chick.
@@CynicalWarlock True, cause at least then they could've done something else with her, instead of being constantly reminded that she's the child of Jax.
I absolutely love the idea of tech and magic combining because it can just look cool on a aesthetic level and it can lead to a lot of cool stories and world-building. Though I think MK does the former more than the latter.
Also it's interesting as MK develops how they recontextualize how tech works on older characters.
In a way, 'magic' is just unexplained tech, so you can definitely combine the two, just fine.
@@CynicalWarlock I definitely think you can. I just think MK sometimes doesn't do it that well. From what I have seen. Though in the video you do show examples where it's does good.
Love your videos, man. About Erron Black's guns - since he was hired by Shang Tsung ~150 years before the events of MKX, it's very possible that his guns (both revolvers and lever-action rifle from MK11) have "infinite ammo" enchantment like Kung Lao's amazing hat.
Not sure about bundles of dynamite sticks though. It could be magic too, or maybe he does store them in his posterior, who knows?
Yes. If he stores them in his posterior, they become stink bombs, too. Very effective.
I like the magic bullet explanation. Would make sense, given his employer.
I kinda feel like MK is trying to strip itself of its sci-fi elements and now their going straight into Urban Fantasy. I mean it can't be a coincidence that all of the characters with technological elements to them (Jax, Cyrax, Sektor, and to a lesser extent Stryker) are being pushed to the background in favor of gods and sorcery. Before the games used to blend these two together but now they want to seperate them.
That's a good point; it was easy for me to diss the tech elements, in the past, but only when they're removed do you see how much they mattered. Streamlining the mythology waters it down, makes it more like every other game's lore.
@@CynicalWarlock Exactly, they want MK to be taken seriously so bad but it's really just failing in their end. The lore is ok but the stories are trying too hard to scrub any of the silliness that these games were once known for.
Man your Mortal kombat videos are the best I always get a better and deeper understanding of the game and lore.
Many thanks. Glad you like em.
4:14 The biggest smile formed when this came up
All hail the Wheelchair.
I think originally her ring toss for Sonya was from her inner chi straight up. It came from within her somehow because in the old timeline she did train with Lui kang and she did learn the bicycle kick., but I think they're trying to get at that wrist thing on her arm helps bring out her energy like a mixture of tech and inner chi. This is what I believe. U know?
Viable explanation. Considering that most Earthrealmers, apart from Shaolin, are just normal dudes with tech, I wouldn't mind Sonya being the same.
@@CynicalWarlock yeah but I also love the idea that there's a little bit of magic in Sonya because you know Johnny Cage has all the green energy and it's really cool to think that may be inside of Sonya There's a little bit of magic that is able to be amplified by tech, but yeah lol I love your content by the way you're very brilliant.
And I also think it adds a little bit of mystery to her background like you know maybe there's something in her bloodline

@@CynicalWarlock but at least we got a new video
Unpopular opinion: I'd rather of had Hsu Hao in MK11 with an updated design and cool moves based on his chest beam as well as his power clap, than Jax without a d***. Granted it wouldn't of changed the pile of poo, but it would've made it more tolerable.
I'm inclined to agree. At least Hsu Hao is his own character, instead of a glorified gender-swap.
I mean Hsu Hao is not even that bad of a character. He's the Stryker of the 3D era in the sense that he's a pretty easy fix as the concept is fine. The problem with Hsu Hao is that he was a wrestler that didn't actually wrestle, and was the ugliest character in the 3D era due to his egghead face. To fix Hsu Hao is to just make him a proper wrestler, and add a coat to match his hat so he looks less like a stripper.
This redesign shows that Hsu Hao is actually pretty easy to fix. ruclips.net/video/b_9LYcq6cWU/видео.html&ab_channel=NetherKast
They should go deeper with Jax absorbing and storing kinetic energy in his arms and being more creative with it.
Takeda to me is a good balanced character because he doesnt rely solely on tech, hes trained by ninja clan and also has telepathy(we dont know if he has telekinesis if he does that could be an explanation of how he can move the plasma blades and whips around or how his suit is powered up). His story just needs to be more fleshed out.
The cyber interested me starting from mk9 and looking at midway im like this is definitely a good storyline because the topics of free will, losing your humanity, man vs machine can all play into this. Plus having mercenaries that dont tire, can teleport, camouflage and even carry the same powers of their human self is fascinating.
Yeah, there's a lot to dig into there, but in the games, it tends to be simplified to "cyborgs bad, oh the humanity".
I think that's why Takeda has such a fan club, cause he has more elements to him than the other Kombat Kids, and they're fairly cohesive.
@@CynicalWarlock right like they don't go in depth as to why it's bad to be a cyborg and go deeper into lin kuei principles to show why the cyber initiative goes against beliefs.
True that's probably why Takeda is a fan fav. Jacqui and Cassie basically do the same thing as their parents with little variation and Kung Jin is the archer cousin of kung Lao. They probably shouldn't have done that. His story wasn't compelling.
@@kobebrewster2549 Guess I'm gonna have to do a Kombat Kids reimagining..
@@CynicalWarlock haha I'm up for it id like to hear how you'd do it
Yeah, MK11 Jacqui's forcefields were pretty cool but were used in the absolute lamest way. If there was a character with a non-tech/magical version of them I'd probably categorize that power as another expression of the Air/Earth compound; invisible fields of Air hardened like Earth.

I like your analisys of mk and you make me think that mk is one of the few games that uses almost all elements like:
Weapons, air, fire, ice, water, thunder, rock, earth, sun, acid, tecnology, metals, sorcery, shadow and smoke
It really is. That and the unique ways in which most of these are used made me do stuff like the power system.
Jax quakes and purple blasts are force attacks. If you look into it, they tell us he is focusing his Chi into the attacks
They do look like Force attacks, yeah.

Avoided Invasions like the plague, up until now, but I'll take a gander.
YESSSS! I'm so glad youre getting into the tech of mk too.
It's the least I could do.
And turns out, there's actually some cool stuff here to dig into.
@@CynicalWarlock While I agree wholeheartedly about your opinion on Jacqui Cage being a boring character. My opinion differs on the heavy usage of technology and how she has so much just thrown on her. I think of it as the natural technological evolution of Jax's exo arms. That being a full suit with various defensive and offensive and mobility tools. I can see where you're coming from about how they could have been used more...properly. but I think the concept of polished could shine just as well as how Takeda was a success.
I think my biggest difference in opinion comes down to mentality and the usage of this practically "magitech" in an otherwise High Magic Shaolin Fantasy. I argue that while a minor plot point, the Special Forces have always been just one extra spice in the MK stew we all enjoy. (I know food analogies are a sin but shut up it's my post)
The idea that peak human condition doesn't just come from the mastery of the dark arts or Shaolin monks training. But thru rigorous, regimented exercises based upon science and technology to compete and protect the Earthrealm they care for.
It's why Jax the Farmer Boy who left to join the army and eventually Special Forces. Got hit his arms ripped off in service and came back better than ever because of it works so well and is a compelling favorite for so many.
As always Cynical, you make amazing videos that bring out the most creative in us all. I've never been this invested or willing to talk in the comments section before.
@@YaGirlGumption Agreed. Peak excellence is one motif, and loss is another one that ties nicely into all of this. Most MK characters lose something precious - Jax loses his arms, Kabal loses his appearance and ability to breathe, Sub loses his brother, Scorps his family, Reptile his people etc. - and a big part of the series is (or should be) seeing how all these characters react and adapt to the loss. Jax pushing on with metal arms and becoming one of the most badass fighters in all the realms is inspiring.
You're right about Jacqui. Ultimately, the tech itself isn't the product; it's just the end result is uncompelling. I don't like making full-on subjective remarks like that, but there it is.
I was just thinking about the Cyborgs the other day and I have to think because of how often they get their asses kicked; the Cyborgs don't actually retain their OG powers, it's more like "emulation" of the power. So like Cyber Sub is a walking freezer that doesn't match what pre-NRS Bi-Han and every depiction of Kuai Liang can do in terms of sheer power.
But then cyberization is an asinine idea - not only can you not continue to evolve your special powers, now those powers re weaker or non-existent, replaced with a synthetic version. Might as well just make bots, and give them those same powers, instead of carving up your human assassins.
@@CynicalWarlock given the lin kueis track record especially in NRS but also a bit back in midway eras, it does sound pretty on brand
I feel like talking about mortal Kombat is going to be your niche, not that I'm complaining

Tech, the one thing that Netherealm loved recently, although with mk1 there are no characters that utilize tech to the extreme, only guest characters and maybe Takeda will. Honestly I really liked the borgs in older mk games like deception. Also nice video Cynical.
Thanks. Yeah, MK12 is a bit of a departure from tech.
@@CynicalWarlock truly an odd thing, but I believe they realized that having a lack of their core magical fighters was pushing people away. Personally I am happy to see characters like Havik back now I want to see if they can redeem some characters like Kira or make a completely new female character that could a mix of Skarlet and Jade, it would be cool to see Skarlet in this new timeline be a chaotic neutral character with some of Jade´s moveset.

Hello mr warlock. Thank you for another entertaining and funny video to be certain. HOWEVER AS A JACKIE BRIGGS FAN AND MAIN I MUST RESPECTFULLY DISSAGREE WITH YOUR TAKE ON MY GIRL JACKIE. Jackies gimmick is that she is the tech based kharacter of the kombat kids. With her gauntlets in mkx and her kombat suit in mk11, which amplifies her striking power, and her multiple use grenades. Myself personally I always saw her a the Donatello of the kombat kids. And as for her kharacter jaqui is a kharacter who tries to kreate her own legacy and identity for herself while at the same time honoring and paying her respects to her predecessor before her (thats some thing that i and a lot of young people can relate to). And another hot take from me that i know will piss of alot of mk fans is, jacqui is factually a better kharacter than erron black. Jacqui actually has personality and a reason to fight were as erron black really has none. Jacqui knows what it's like to win a fight were as erron still hasn't and canonically couldn't win a fight even if you paid him paid. So from me the roles are reversed jackie is the better kharacter and erron is one of worst, i know that I'm going to get a lot of hell fire thrown at me from you and other mk fans but as a jackie fan and main i just couldn't let the disrespect slide. Agin, no disrespect to you mr warlock or any mk fan but it always boils my blood when people always disrespect my girl jackie without giving her her respects and positives. Again a hot take from me and we all have our favorites and not but as one of the few true jacqui fans and mains i got fight for my kharacters when there being slandered and disrespected were i can and when i can.
No hellfire from me. Like you wrote, we all have our preferences. And don't take it too hard - most of this is a glorified standup routine; it's just jokes.
Finding herself while also honoring the past is, indeed, a good, relatable theme, worth exploring. That's kind of the theme with the Kombat Kids, in general. I wish it was explored better, but yeah, it is there.
And I meant what I said at the very end of the video, I did have a pocket Jacqui that I used quite a lot, in MKX. I don't like what they did with her in MK11, especially her main costume, but her MKX debut was a decent starting point, and had some cool things.
Another reason why mk makes earthly characters´ strength makes sense, still too powerful tbh
edit: also based opinion on Jacqui
Thanks.
Yeah well high-tech characters make sense vs some of the demigods out there, but then there's a portion of characters who get left behind and underpowered.

5 - would have been so cool if stryker's weapons were enchanted but it would go against the point of him.
6 - Is that it ? That's it.
The other centaurians also have metal COmponents right ? Well, in mk3, but that's just duplicating motaro but yeah, in m1k they don't, I think. And in Armageddon they turn into half a child, half a centaurian, half a cod, half the wiz. And had no metal accessories as I recall, (lemme watch a vid to refresh my memory).
You could kill the guy pitched the idea for Jacqui Briggs.
Good idea.
Unfortunately you forgot frost lol
And Cyber-Sub. Honestly, though, there isn't much to say. They freeze stuff. MKX Cyber-Sub has those little floating bots, but that's about it.
Also, my brain refuses to acknowledge MK11 Frost.
@@CynicalWarlockElder gods have finally answered my prayers 🙏🙏🤣🤣also I did some research on subzero so I found that the subzero(kameo) from mk1 and the one subzero(Bi Han) that showed up in invasion mode can turn into ice and they fall into the ground and pop up somewhere else and last but not least I remembered that subzero(kuai liang) from injustice 2 also turned into ice and fall into the ground and did the same thing in his special move and as it was confirmed that the raiden and subzero in injustice 2 were from the original MK timeline so my explaination is that he is just moving through the the ground in ice form and popping up somewhere else as I don't think he can actually teleport just convert into ice and move somewhere else like smoke(into smoke) and mk1 scorpion(into fire) as I don't think they can open portals or have some teleportation ability using tech or magic so how would explain whatever subzero is doing ?
@@CynicalWarlock And also you can make videos on invasion mode and it's different fighters in them like the boss Titan varients which can grow big and stuff and all sorts other invasion stuff and also make a video on Titans from mk 11 endings as you make headcanon videos so you can speculate whatever powers different Titans may have for example noob saibot merged sands of time with his shadow , Titan scorpion and in Sonyas ending she makes Cassie , Johnny , Jax and Jacqui gods and Jax's entire body is gold in color (I know you can come up with some wild ideas about what their powers might be) atleast that would keep us entertained😊😊 until NRS does something with these Titans
@@vishaldutta4375 Anything but a teleport. I hate the idea of Sub-Zero having a teleport. Rather go with your moving-through-the-ground explanation, or doing a really high backflip and leaving a clone behind, that dissolves.
@@vishaldutta4375 They really were high when they made M1K..
Why people don't like jackyq
She's Jax. Straight up. The most expected, cliche, unimaginative, copycat of a character.
@CynicalWarlock and Cassie is johnny what's the point she has dope moves and a nice look
@@bellzo5 Cassie gets criticized too, for the same reasons, but she's technically a little better, because she meshes together 2 other characters, whereas Jacqui is literally just Jax.
And even if you wanna make the visual/cool factor argument, MKX Jacqui had a nice design, actually liked that one, quite a bit; but MK11 ruined her by giving her that stupid men-at-work safety clothing as her main outfit. Her alternate looks fine, though.
And this is all, of course, just opinion.
