This gig, like all those recorded for the TV series, took place at the Brixton Ace not the Brixton Academy. This Cocteau Twins performance was first broadcast on 8 November 1982 and therefore could, conceivably, have taken place just a few days before that. The series was repeated in January 1983 under the title of 'Whatever you Didn't Get'.
This era of the band is hugely underrated. Will Heggie was an amazing bass player and he basically wrote all the bass riffs those songs were built upon.
I love the early Cocteau sound.. Its like the Banshees on acid!
Wow, they're just babies in this vid, and Liz in a short skirt! I saw them in '84 and they had changed so much even by then. You can see here how quirky and totally unique Liz is here, just a complete one off.
Wow! With Will Heggie on bass. One of the most amazing bass players of all time. Never thought I'd see this. Fantastic!
this sound is still unbeatable almost 40 years later..
Liz Fraser is so incredibly amazing in this. Just incredible to see her at this time of her life.
the crowd must have been in total shock to hear such music at the time! Simply brilliant.
WILL HEGGIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
liz frasier sounds like shes summoning a curse when she sings often
She's so cool!
Liz looks so angry.
I hate the fact that I'm middle-aged but still too young too have truly appreciated this at the time. I had to endure Poison & Warrant & such crap before the second wave of artists such as Lush & MBV came along. This is a fantastic performance, or anti-performance, she appears to be totally oblivious to the audience and displaying a sort of righteous indignance. This is what RUclips at its best is, a time capsule and a second chance to see art like this. Thanks for posting.
She is so beautiful in this
Even in 2020 this feels like music from the future
They were so ahead of their time. Those going on a nostalgia trip should listen to Crystal Castles or Caribou or even Grimes here in the 21st century. The Cocteau's influenced more than even I as a 20+ year long fan could ever have imagined.
I love how Lizzy does random stretching exercise every now and then :) Now here is a workout video behind which I can get !
Alas Dies Laughing official lyrics are finally published:
I still have my ticket stub for this gig and yes, Killing Joke were the headline act. I remember their performance quite well despite the years. That was the first time I saw Killing Joke and have seen them a few times down the years most recently at the Bearded Theory festival this year and will be seeing them again in a few weeks time here in Dublin...
Liz in this old video was so young and cute. Gorgeous songs, crazy and hallucinated, the TRUE GOTHWAVE
Que linda se vé Liz.....que arreglos tan Góticos me encantan!!!! ese bajo, que bien logrado!!! calidad y creatividad en su máximo exponente!!!!
