- Cocteau Twins - Hazel (live London, Brixton Ace 1982). Broadcasted on November 8th 1982, part of the 'Whatever You Want' UK TV program.
This gig, like all those recorded for the TV series, took place at the Brixton Ace not the Brixton Academy. This Cocteau Twins performance was first broadcast on 8 November 1982 and therefore could, conceivably, have taken place just a few days before that. The series was repeated in January 1983 under the title of 'Whatever you Didn't Get'.

Bands in the UK have always been miles ahead in creativity than the US bands.
I don't understand people commenting like "not a good guitarist" or "not a good live band". Are you looking for maybe Yes or Rush, but even so the Cocteau Twins are far better.
I LOVE the rawness of this performance! It's great to be able to hear not just the sheer strength of Liz's vocals but every breath inbetween..!.I've been a fan for decades and it's great to be able to now witness these early performances that I never got to see. Thank you so much for uploading this! 🤩
Back in the day there was always someone in the crowd shouting for this. love it
Thank you for sharing...I have started hunting for things like this after just finishing the 4AD book 'Facing the Other Way...I was at this gig - .they went down a whole lot better than their first London appearance earlier in the year...but between the two, Peel had aired their wonderful first session a few times..
I second my praise and thanks for uploading restored quality of this early Brixton gig. Very valuable piece of post-punk history! Thanks!!
I love how shrill and girly she sounds here. There is a much more youthful, rocky tone than the gentler, more soprano lines she would be known for.
I love the fluttery thing she does with her voice. It sounds like festering insects.
jewel
Magnificent.
Great footage.
A M A Z I N G !
Does anyone knows how did they make those drums basses? I know it's a drum-machine, but how does it works?
Is that Jah Wobble at the very end...on the steps?
I thought so too. I was at school with him.
Robon Guthrie wasn't joking when he said his gutar playing was rather lacking, hence the use of lots of effects! Still great band though!
Damn so she was only nineteen then?
utterly wonderful but boy not the greatest stage performers of all time! endearingly awful. Although in this one liz does move a bit.
