  • @clownkirkpatrick
    @clownkirkpatrick 4 месяца назад +50

    This seems way overly critical in my view. For example, you say child education is a significant problem in Mexico (which I agree with), so they increase scholarships 43% to incentivize people to go to school, which helps decrease to drop out rate (all things you said), and you still find something to complain about which is that maybe it's not all going to the very poorest and is being equally distributed. Sure it could be better based on that, but it just seems like you're looking for reasons to criticize Mexico there.
    You also kinda put the global warming part of Sheinbaum's platform to the side, meanwhile Mexico City has a water shortage and water inequality was one of the biggest issues in this election. Security is undoubtedly the highest, and AMLO deserves to answer for it, but water security is very important as well. Having someone in charge who actually cares and has a plan to resolve it is huge, if she is able to implement it successfully.
    You talk about how the healthcare system needs reform (another point I agree with), so AMLO tries to reform it, and you complain because seemingly...you think achieving healthcare for all there is impossible and he should be more realistic? So why are you complaining about it then if you think it's impossible to achieve? What would you do then?
    Lastly, you complain about the poverty rate, which is significant, without acknowledging it fell pretty significantly during AMLO's term from 43.2% to 36.3%. That number is obviously still way too high, but it's at least improvement. You also don't mention the positive raises in minimum wage, pensions, and the significant infrastructure improvements done during AMLO's term, and the work particularly done to improve inequality between Northern and Southern Mexico.
    Overall you acknowledge at the end that many of these changes will take time to see the results of, and yet feel comfortable complaining about them while ignoring much of what actually made him popular, and what made Sheinbaum popular. Idk, seem a bit slanted to me. I don't think AMLO is as good as he gets credit for, but this almost seems like a hit piece. Mexico isn't Denmark, you have to have perspective here and look not at where it is compared to the developed world, but whether it is headed in the right direction or not.

      Actually, Central America and the Caribbean nations are considered part of North America too. So the first woman president in North America should be President Ertha Pascal-Trouillot of Haiti. Nicaraguan President Violeta Chamorro (much as I despise her), Panamanian President Mireya Moscoso, Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla, President Paula-Mae Weekes of Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados President Sandra Mason, Honduran President Xiomara Castro, President Christine Kangaloo of Trinidad & Tobago, Dominica President Sylvanie Burton all came before Sheinbaum.
      That's only specifically presidents, not mentioning many countries that have had female prime ministers (if the country has no president, or the president is largely ceremonial, or there is some sharing of power between the president and PM), such as Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller or Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell.

    President. Claudia Shienbaum she's going to have a tough time controlling the cartels and it's going to be very hard for her to consider gradually moving away from oil add gas to clean energy. I'm really hoping she succeeds, because the cartels are definitely going to make it much harder for her to run the country as a Tejano-Mexican-American, I'm very much hoping that she does fulfill all her promises unlike our politicians here in the US who are complete disappointment.

    About scholarships; I am in the camp in support of government granting scholarships to "all" high-performing students regardless of the income bracket of their families. • @GeorgeWashingtonLaserMusket
      @GeorgeWashingtonLaserMusket 4 месяца назад +2

      Everyone should have access to education and charging for it only hurts your own society. However I think college is over hyped, we need more trade's people in the world. If you're going to college to become a nurse, a doctor, a security researcher (White Hat Hacker), or other job that's in demand it makes sense to invest in those. Liberal arts, while important and socially valuable do not tend to lend to getting a good paying job. "Oh wow so you know English real good, that's nice" is what I think to myself when someone tells me they were an English major, likewise history majors are great but if you're going into it what job are you specifically going after and don't say teacher.
      I think we can go on an income based model and cover the majority for students regardless of income bracket. If you were raised in poverty like me it'd be fantastic to get an easier access to a full ride to do IT, or HVAC, etc. If you're upper income then maybe you'll get some help assuming you're parents don't literally make seven figures. Middle class might pay a few hundred or a couple thousand a year but it'd be a FRACTION of what we're (I broke the poverty cycle baby) used to paying.
      I quit college early on, best decision I ever made. I only owed them $9k when I quit and managed to pay that off in a few years. I make as much as most college graduates who do the same job as me because my brain works good enough without needing to spend $90k I guess.
      Honestly I don't think we should hype college as much as we do. I have so many friends with meaningless liberal arts degrees, and even know a few specialist (Landscape Architecture) and don't use it (in the last case they realized they hate it I think). You know what's cool? Having half a mill in the bank/investments, your own home, no student debt; and being able to fix stuff. That's what getting good at Plumbing, Electric, HVAC, Pipe Laying, or other skill jobs and a good work ethic can get us.
      I rant about all this because if you've met a Mexican you know their work ethic makes us look lazy.

    The name "Institutional Revolutionary Party" appears as an oxymoron or paradox, as the term "revolution" may imply the destruction of institutions.[26] According to Rubén Gallo, the concept of institutionalizing the revolution refers to the corporatist nature of the party; the PRI subsumed the "disruptive energy" of the Mexican Revolution by co-opting and incorporating its enemies into the party's bureaucratic régime. As Thomas Sowell says: 'There are no solutions, only trade-offs.' Neither of these measures ends up working as proclaimed: when you expand the benefits beyond those who are in truly desperate or circumstantial conditions, you only create a social endemic problem that can last generations, as everyone depends on the assistance of the state alongside the informal jobs they take to live.
    But as you add millions upon millions of people to the list, you also add millions upon millions of voters who fear losing such benefits. Politicians then hold these voters over a cliff, saying, 'If you don't vote for me, you will fall into the abyss; you have no other choice.' Their intention, therefore, is to never raise them from poverty, as this would free them to choose other options and political parties.
    Left-wing parties' premise is not one that creates wealth (which is basically impossible for the left, as they lack real economic training beyond spouting ideological fallacies) but one based on 'distributing,' and you can only distribute what you have. Worse, left-leaning parties tend to stifle the very conditions that sometimes maintain whatever wealth the country possesses.

      WRONG.
      AMLO Recovered the 2 plants of PEMEX that Pena Nieto sold, recovered the salt from Baja California Sur that PRI had sold to Japan and only 25 % was for us, increased minimum wage to 120 % and quadrupled pension for the elderly among many other things.

    I don't think deregulation and lowing taxes would solve anything. The struggle with eduction and healthcare is a problem though and likely part of their lack of productivity. If the scholarships were fully flat, and open to all at the same rate I don't think that is inherently a bad thing, even if people that don't need it get it. The issue is only if people that need it don't get it.
